Clones of machine guns and rifles

Submachine guns yesterday, today, tomorrow. There is one more direction of improvement of submachine guns, about which we, by the way, also told, but we practically did not consider specific examples (except in the material about the Austrian submachine gun based on the AUG rifle), and Something automatic rifle by turning it into a submachine gun. Or we can talk about the development of some new weapons based on it. The most famous example of such a design is the Soviet AKS-74U, which, being a shortened version of the AKS-74 machine gun, hit the Soviet Army and the Ministry of the Interior, where it is still used today.

Very specific model

Actually, all the problems of this clone of the Kalashnikov assault rifle turned out to be connected with its patron. For PP, it was too powerful, had an unsatisfactory stopping effect, the bullets fired from it strongly ricocheted, so I even had to develop a special bullet (which did not solve the problems, by the way!), That is, it was a good weapon of total war, but for limited, "surgical" operations rather unsuitable. Yes, but what was appealing about him? Bribed his design in it. That is, the details of which he was going. After all, the production technology of the Kalashnikov automaton was by this time worked out to the utmost, which guaranteed the new weapons both manufacturability, cheapness, and rapid development among the troops. That is, in principle, it was enough just to change the cartridge, barrel, bolt and ... you could thus get a new and quite decent submachine gun, which, when used with a cartridge of 9-mm caliber, could have a very good stopping effect. But in Soviet times such “delights” were not claimed, therefore, the “Kalashnikov” clones did not appear.

Everything changed after the 1991 year. Appeared, for example, the PP-19 “Bison” submachine gun with the original auger shaft-mounted magazine on the 64 and 53 cartridge, depending on the modification. The cartridges used were very different: 9 × 18 mm, 9 × 17 mm, 9 × 19 mm “Parabellum” and even the good old cartridge from the TT - 7,62 × 25 mm, that is, everything according to the principle “every whim for your money.”

But he looked very unusual and, apparently, that is why the Vityaz submachine gun (known as PP-19-01) also appeared, with the traditional "rozhkovy" magazine for 30 cartridges.

The principle of operation of the automatics was chosen as the simplest one: the free shutter recoil, but accuracy for the sake of shooting from it is conducted with the shutter closed. And USM, and the safety device - everything, everything, including the receiver, is taken from AKS-74U and AK-104. There is a translator from single to automatic fire.

Two stores can be connected in one unit, which reduces the time to recharge. Facilitates the use of a submachine gun is also the fact that he is almost "omnivorous." It can be used 9x19 mm cartridges, both commercial samples and military, including our Russian with an armor-piercing bullet.

Externally, the new submachine gun is very similar to the Aksu-74, but it is clear that it has Pickattini strips and a tactical handle, in a word - the entire modern "gentleman's set." Nevertheless, manufacturers claim that the new model on 70% is unified with the Kalashnikov assault rifle.

There is an option with a reloading handle on the left side, which is considered a more convenient solution for a submachine gun. The switch of fire and safety modes in this version is also on the left. Due to the abundance of metal in the design, the submachine gun turned out to be somewhat heavy, about 3 kg, but in Russian it is durable and, of course, reliable. The length of the barrel is small - 230 mm, the total length with the butt - 690 mm, with a folded butt - 460. The rate of fire is quite high and is 750 rds / min. The effective firing range can reach 200 m, but it’s best to still fire no further than 100!

Today, this PP comes into service with parts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and, most likely, will remain their weapon for a long time. So “Kalashnikov traditions” still live and win in our country, but who said that there is something better than “good old traditions”. No, there is, of course, only the time to drop them has clearly not come yet!

Colt's machine gun of 9 caliber mm

But this was done not only in the USSR and in Russia. When in the USA there was a need for submachine guns to arm special units, Colt immediately responded and created an 9-mm model of such weapons for 9 × 19 mm, based on the M16 automatic army rifle. And, by the way, this company itself produces this rifle. So to release a clone of this rifle under the pistol cartridge was completely easy, it reduced labor costs and reduced the cost of production.

Argentine security forces with Colt US companies

By its design, this submachine gun is very much like a rifle: its automation works on the principle of a closed bolt, but differs from the M16 in that it has a direct venting tube. The closed bolt is a very advantageous thing in that it makes it possible to produce more accurate shooting in comparison with the PCB, which has automatic shutter. Well, in appearance, like our AKS-74, the American submachine gun is also very similar to the M16, only in a correspondingly shortened form. As one of the noticeable differences can be called a large plastic deflector, near the hole to remove the sleeves. The carrying handle, which is the same as the sight, allows you to mount several kinds of optical sights on it, as well as night vision devices. Front pistol grip is missing.

Option with a permanent butt. Clearly visible deflector-reflector behind the bore hole

Interestingly, the store's receiver did not even diminish for stores of smaller width, but inside they made the appropriate liner. It allows you to use both 32-cartridge shops and 20-cartridge shops - which are no different from the stores used in Uzi-type machine guns.

Colt SMG RO635

Two types of this submachine gun are produced. The first has the designation RO635, and it differs in that its fire interpreter has three positions: firing, single-shot fire and bursts of fire. The second type of RO639 instead of continuous fire provides for firing with a cut-off of three shots. There is also an option for the 633 Drug Enforcement Special Forces with a shortened barrel and a simplified scope. The most common model is the 635 model, which is referred to as SMG 9mm NATO.

Very short AR-9

The Colt company also produces a carbine based on an AR-15 rifle, and also a 9-mm caliber. It differs in the presence of a gas piston, and so it is worth the same rotating bolt. This sample has a 16,1-inch barrel, a black anodized finish, an M4 4 positioning telescopic butt, a sleeve cover and a variety of traditional attachment accessories. Shop on 32 cartridge.

The submachine gun UDP-9-SBA3 from Angstadt Armz with a matte black finish, a silencer screwed onto the barrel, and a Pikattini rail. Shops from the Glock pistol. Price $ 1395.00.

The submachine gun UDP-9 of Angstadt Armz with a built-in silencer. Downstairs shop of translucent plastic and cartridges to it.

Another clone of the AR-15 rifle under the 9-mm pistol cartridge - the submachine gun UDP-9 was developed and launched onto the market by the young American company Angstadt Armz, which for the first time announced itself in 2015. This is the most popular sample, although there is also a modification for the 11,43-mm pistol cartridge. Company owner Rich Angstadt played on the fact that he equipped his submachine gun with a built-in silencer, which successfully works with subsonic ammunition. It turned out simple and reliable, and it looks very modern submachine gun compatible with all the accessories from AR-15, as well as - and this is constantly emphasized in the company's advertising brochures - with all the shops from Glock family pistols. By the way, to ensure reliable supply, the stores are inserted into the PP receiver at the same angle as the pistols of this system. Model UDP-9 in a variety of configurations, which certainly increases its competitiveness in the arms market.

One of the modifications UDP-9 called "Green Bazooka". It has a longer barrel length and a silencer that is screwed onto the barrel. Equipped with an additional pistol grip. The collimator sight is fixed on the upper Picattini plate. The reloading handle is double-sided, like in the AR-15 rifle, it is traditionally located at the rear end of the receiver. Butt sliding.

That is, in this way, you can, in principle, take the automation of any rifle you like, the most, so to speak, time-tested and without much trouble, making it easier in an appropriate way, to create on its basis a completely decent submachine gun for one of the most common type of shop in the world and caliber. That's all!

And this is how this submachine gun looks in the hands of the shooter

As always, the question of prices for such “products” is interesting. Well, the weapon is not cheap! Depending on whether it has an integrated or removable silencer, as well as the length of the barrel, the price of a sample can vary between $ 1,395.00 – 1,995.00, that is, to have a very decent price. But the cutting-edge materials and technologies used in the machine pistols of this company are believed to redeem everything! And today, these submachine guns are sold in 25 countries of the world. And what will happen when this company gain momentum?

To be continued ...

Well, as far as I know, the same H&K MP-5 is a miniature copy of the G3, for example

In games from Apeiron based on Steyr A1 and A2, it was possible to collect shortened versions, machine guns or PP (using a set of modules).

They smiled! Kontrostryk - our everything !!!
I’m joking ..... but the trend of using computer games as footnotes, sources and photo materials in the latest articles and comments on VO is a little alarming! Just the other day, in an article about a tank, one of the authors cited screenshots from the game Word Tanks, today the first comment is a-la from Apeiron?
By the way, the use of the NATO abbreviations of our Russian weapons is annoying. It seems the dude is under forty, but he’s still there "instead of AK - AK-47", etc.
I don’t know, well, does the Author have a desire to use a large-scale model of weapons or equipment from a computer game for the material, why the hell to drag a picture from a screenshot? It’s an order of magnitude easier and more respectful for readers to phone the editorial office and ask for an image of the model without hint points, and then describe below where the image is taken from. I think the developers and sellers of the game will only be happy with such unobtrusive advertising. At one time, I personally came across a similar thing and was convinced that people at the helm of commercial projects are much easier, for example, than we think !!!
      Well Ostap suffered, stop ...
Vyacheslav Olegovich, thanks for the review, we sincerely look forward to continuing, your Kote!
I think in the next article we will be pleased with domestic “PPs” based on the Val under a silent 9mm cartridge! And here I have a question what to attribute our complex to the thunderstorm bulapp. Cartridges from the machine gun, and the size of a submachine gun!

I do not quite understand why Bison is considered a clone of the AK-74, if it has a different automation principle? Just because of the trigger and, remotely, the design?

How did the "pravdoruby" pull up, tell me, dear, how was the AK officially called until mid-49?
What AK manual was the only one in the army until 1952?
The name AK47 is NOT NATO, but quite officially adopted in official correspondence up to the adoption of the AK for service, while the first service manual was written and signed in circulation during extended military tests before being adopted, therefore, until 1952. the only guiding manual on AK in the troops was the "short guide to the service of the AK-47 assault rifle", and the troops called it AK47 for a long time, this name came to the west along with samples of assault rifles after the events in Hungary in 56 year.

Manufacturability - drives! On the other hand, the skills of handling a long barrel intuitively allow you to work with a short one.

No Victor Nikolaevich in operation. Yes, they carry more than they use, but better than never! I will surprise you, but in our Urals it is customary to shoot personal weapons from the shaggy 90s! Including from AKS74U (at least once a quarter). And so, I agree that the PM dies from the erosion of burnishing and chipping of the PCB of the arms in the duty units, PPSP and DPS! The coolest weapon in accounting! But even then, at least once a month, one gun fires from a unit. By the way, for three years now there have been no facts of illegal use of firearms by police!
          1. +4
            17 July 2019 11: 18
Vladislav - firing once a quarter is difficult to call exploitation with a barrel resource of 15 shots, because even if you shoot at the store in the quarter (which I doubt very much), the resource will last for 000 years. So if you don’t hammer them in nails and don’t use the barrel as a crowbar, you can still use your weapons for about eighty years.

Viktor Nikolayevich, when an employee of the Bank, Peter, brings weapons to his service, he does not know “how the stars will form”! Practice shows that there were no facts of a malfunction of a firearm during its use for the past few years! Although they happen during firing, but here most of the hands of the shooters themselves are to blame ...
So, wearing this sinner with me is when I step up in charge or go to firing. The orders of DPS and PPSP - operation. Rarely a week goes by without the use or use of weapons. About two years ago, the number of attacks by wild animals and wild dogs increased sharply, moreover, they would die. And where did the employees of the PMU go. From myself I will repeat the facts of illegal use for several years now, which has not been recorded.
By the way, the kindest weapon is a conviction, but sadly people are different. Alas in my practice, they waved at me and chopped up and tried to fork with a pitchfork. The last case, together with the head of the police department, persuaded to calm down a drunken rowdy. No upturned table pounced on a policeman began to clutch at a weapon .... Question why? Drunken dare and stupid Russian maybe !!! But in fact they could just shoot under article 23 of the Federal Law on the police! They did not twist, they recorded the fact, the material was transferred to the RF IC.
Be another country did not bother. So our “dragging” is better than let it be justified use!
              Regards, Vladislav!

I know very well what "law enforcement" is, my friend retired with a deputy. early The ROVD, his son, still serves in the police, just in the PPS.
I meant that the load on the weapon is still "not combat" and its resource in this case is large enough, no more.
And as for the words of persuasion for drunken rowdy ... There are doubts based on personal experience.

They drove past the collective farm herd, I don’t know what hit him in the head, maybe I saw an opponent in the “half-four”. But as the wind blew us off on the armor, we sat there, until the shepherds jumped up and drove the "rowdy" away from the car. And I could have shot, I had half a magazine of cartridges in Kalash. The problem is in the ammunition, it would be necessary to rework the principle of locking the barrel.
And the customer with us was limited to the calibers listed in the article.

Of the presented PPs, in my opinion, the best will be Vityaz (of course, not in the monstrously opikatinny version as in the second photo).
For the other two targets, in case of misfire, to eject the cartridge, you need to manipulate the reload handle in which the weapon is withdrawn from the aiming line, already for the M16 this is not good, but you can somehow survive, but for the target intended to conduct intensive shooting at short range, catastrophe!
Colt engineers were pleased - the installation of a reflector should seriously kill ergonomics (ease of wearing PP), was there really no other solution to this problem?
Well, UPD-9 is, in my opinion, a product purely for ipsc, which is also hinted at by the Glock store (not the best solution for software). The barrel cover is an excellent grater for things with constant wear, as well as a great trap for a variety of dirt and branches, it is also great for special forces - when throwing up an assault rifle there are very good chances to catch such a cover for unloading elements. Beauty and minimization of mass is certainly good, but damn, this is already too much.

On the unification of bison / knights with AK74U / AK104 - There is no 70% there, based on AKS-74U, but all the main details are their own - the barrel, the box and its insert, a single bolt (instead of the frame and bolt in the AKS74U) and the box cover, their own sighting, the bison also has its own front sight stand and a "gas" tube with a forend, a return mechanism and even little things, and only the butt, trigger, and handle are unified with the AKS74U. The knight has already been made by Izhmash on the basis of the AK100 series and a little more unification - the forend and the gas pipe are compatible with the short AK 100 series.
The left platoon has never been included in the standard set of knights - this is the work of tuning offices.

As for the Koltovo SMG based on AR 15 - it does not have gas exhaust automation, it uses a free shutter

Zdraste hi ... A fresh sample of a carbine appeared (for practitioners):
      Posted Jul 17 2019 year
The Saiga-9 LOT Yarovit carbine is maximally adapted for practicing sports practical shooting.
It is equipped with all the necessary characteristics for effective and accurate shooting at competitions at any level, among them: a muzzle compensator to reduce recoil, a magazine expander shaft for faster reloading, an ergonomic fuse with an index finger pad and a cutout to hold the shutter in the open position, a two-way cocking handle and increased stock line. On the hinged lid of the receiver carabiner mounted Picatinny rail. The posted forend of the ergonomic profile is made of carbon fiber. The telescopic butt with an adapter is adjusted according to the needs of the shooter.
The weapon is equipped with a magazine for 10 or 30 rounds of 9 mm Luger, the design also provides Arkhipov’s lever for resetting the magazine.

No, who is Lot, and what happened to his wife, I know, but here it looks like an abbreviation. And the word Yarovit is completely unfamiliar to me. request If in the know, share your knowledge. smile

          hi Good morning.
The Saiga-9 self-loading carbine model of the Saiga-9 LOT “YAROVIT” (Saiga-1300 YAROVIT), is offered in only one design option, and, like the Saiga-MK LOT “SVAROG”, the manufacturer estimates it at around $ XNUMX.

          Yarovit

It is KK specially for "practitioners" launched a line of devices tuned for sports with the names of Slavic gods, there is also a saiga in .223 "Svarog".
The funny thing is that having weighed everything you could to replace the trigger, there wasn’t any strength left - I felt it live - the descent remained the same ugly as on Saig-9X19, the jamb with the tear-off shutter guides was not removed either. But the price tag is 2 times higher than the usual stock saiga 9X19.

And in the photo, mostly not submachine guns, but civilian self-loading samples
