Chinese submachine guns

Submachine gun: yesterday, today, tomorrow. It often happens that the topics for the next articles are suggested to the authors of "BO" by his readers. So this time it was the same: “Where are the Chinese !?” And really, where are they and what are their successes in creating new submachine guns? This is our story today.

"The Armory of the World"

It is this name that should be given to China, bearing in mind its position on the world stage over the last century, but with a certain reservation. This is not about production weapons, not at all. It's about consuming it. Yes, yes, it was China, with its underdeveloped industry, but many tea and rice fields, and people from whom taxes could be beaten out with sticks on the heels, that I bought large quantities of weapons from leading manufacturing countries and did not equip our armies with junk! In the 30s, ordered (and more on that in “VO” was the material) Mauser rifles and pistols, Czech machine guns ZB.26, German Tanks and Soviet aircraft. Later, the Chinese completely received all the Japanese arsenals, and then also Soviet and American weapons. Therefore, it was very simple for them to create "new products" from the very beginning. He took, for example, a Thompson submachine gun, put a barrel on it under the Soviet "Tokarev" cartridge, redid the bolt and the magazine, and ... here you have the new "tea gun".

The original conversion of the American Thompson submachine gun chambered for 7,62x25TT with a PPS-43 magazine (right side), found by the authors of the Forgotten Weapons site all in the same China. Very cool done, is not it?

The same submachine gun. Left view.

In the 20s, the Soviet Union supported Chinese troops as it feared the expansion of Japanese influence. Moreover, even anti-communist nationalists received weapons and equipment from the USSR. But aid to China also came from the United States, where China dreamed of making its ally after the war. Therefore, one should not be surprised that deliveries under the Lend-Lease Agreement of February 1941 went there, and just before the end of World War II, China received goods worth more than 1,6 billion from Americans. Not bad, right? Among other things, supplies of the United Defense UD-42 submachine guns were carried out, the legendary Thompson and various models of the M3 submachine gun were also supplied. From the USSR, the Chinese received PPSH-41 and PPS-43. The Japanese "types" also came into service with the PLA. Gradually, however, Chinese experts thought about creating their own weapons based on what they had learned. And they created it!

Chinese "type"

Both in Japan and in China, weapons are given marks each year. That and the submachine gun "Type 64" - a weapon created in a particular year. What happened? It turned out PP, similar and very much like the Soviet PPS-43, with a free gate and a translator of fire. The Czech machine gun ZB-26 borrowed trigger, but greatly simplified it. The most important thing is the purpose for which this Chinese submachine gun was created. But she was somewhat unusual. The fact is that the "Type 64" was originally designed as a silent, and did not constitute an ordinary submachine gun, on which to put a silencer. Therefore, the silencer on this PP became an integral part of its design and cannot be removed.

The barrel is simply inserted into the muffler, and that in turn is attached to the receiver with a threaded sleeve. Interestingly, there are two fuses on it at once. One is similar to the AK-47 fire translator, and the second is designed as a button that locks the trigger when the shutter is turned on. Moreover, the translator of fire on this submachine gun allows you to fire both single shots and bursts. And it is very unusual for a silent weapon, since such a fire leads to rapid wear of the silencer. The sight has only two positions “10” and “20”, that is, marks of firing on 100 and on 200 m. Butt, as you see in the photo below, is collapsible.

New time, new submachine gun

A new submachine gun “Chan Feng” was created in the Chinese company “Chan Feng Group” under the program of developing a new type of submachine gun for the PLA at the end of the 90 of the XX century. At the same time, it was created in two versions at once: the first - for the new 5,8-mm pistol cartridge of its own Chinese design (5,8x21-mm) and the second - also for its Chinese version of the old “Lüger” cartridge 9X19-mm. And the first option was calculated on the use in the army, and the second - in the police and ... for export.

Two variants of the machine gun "Chan Feng."

And this is how a screw shop is inserted into it!

The design of the new machine gun pistol was more than original. We can say that here the Chinese engineers certainly were "ahead of the rest." The fact is that they received a dual power supply system for cartridges and, apart from pistol magazines on 15 9-mm or 20 5,8-mm cartridges, traditionally inserted into the pistol grip, they also received an 50 cartridge magazine located on top, which was an analogue of the previously created US store from the Kaliko submachine gun. All this, of course, complicated the design, so that it could not stand the army tests and the 5,8-mm sample lost the competition. But the 9-mm counterpart firm-developer offers the Chinese police, and also, as it was intended, for export. And buy it!

By itself, the design of this Chinese submachine gun is very simple, and its design resembles the French experienced ADR submachine gun. The bolt is free, the front part of the barrel, so that it is located above his chamber. There are two fire modes, their translator is located above the rear pistol grip. Receiver plastic, made together with both pistol grip. The screw shop is also made of translucent plastic, so it is very easy to control the consumption of ammunition. Butt telescopic and can be adjusted in length. The sights are the simplest, but both collimator and night sights can be installed. Installation of the quick-release muffler is provided. Weight without ammunition is quite small - 2,1 kg, barrel has a length of 250 mm, firing rate - 800 vyst / min. Effective firing range 100-150 m.

He's with a silencer ...

According to the fashion on bullpup ...

Then in 2005, in China, the “Type 05” submachine gun was developed, which engineers of the PLA Research Institute of 208 (where the PRC army firearms are developing) and specialists from the Chinese company “Jian She” worked on. To develop it began under the new cartridge caliber 5,8-mm, with a sleeve-shaped bottle in 21 mm. The mass of his peaked armor piercing bullet is equal to the total 3 grams, the initial - 480-500 m / s. At this time, the development was put into service under the name "Pistol-gun Type 05". And again, the second option was made, chambered for 9x19 mm. And again he went into service with the Chinese police and for export.

And this submachine gun experienced the creative approach of Chinese engineers who designed it according to the bullpup principle. Many of the details, like the previous model, made of plastic. The shells, however, are only thrown to the right, so it’s better not to shoot from the left shoulder. The fuse-translator of fire modes is located above the fire control knob and allows firing single shots, giving turns with a cut-off of the 3 shot, and firing continuous fire until the trigger is pressed. An additional automatic fuse is installed on the pistol grip on its backside. The shutter handle of the army version is located inside the top handle for carrying weapons; but on the 9-mm version it is on the right, since the top of the receiver was taken by the Pikattini guide bar. The military version of the "Type 05" has open sights, but on the carrying handle there is a mount for optical or collimator sights. For the submachine guns, new box magazines were developed — four-row 50 cartridges for the army 5,8-mm submachine gun “Type 05” and two-row 30 cartridges for the 9-mm police submachine gun. And the shops from the German MP5 are also suitable for it.

In general, the Chinese have made three original PP models at once: “with a silencer for all times”, with the “a la” Kaliko auger shop and very traditional in design (even shoots from an open bolt!) A bullpup submachine gun. Naturally, all this weapon kills, and naturally, it is for sale and someone even buys it. Why not? But this is, nevertheless, rather a matter of price, and not the perfection of all these structures. Work on ... "level", but no more!

Well done! They created an institute for the development of weapons, using various layout options, new materials, using their own and common cartridges. The results bring results. A rolling stone gathers no moss. And if they support the initiative from the people - very well.

This is China, there are 2 billion of them.

The main initiative from the bottom with such a population per square kilometer, like cockroaches, breed and multiply.

This is from above regulated by one child per family. And if it weren’t regulated ...

          No longer.
The Chinese authorities decided to abandon the "one family, one child" policy that had existed for many years. At one time, it was introduced to reduce the birth rate due to fears that the country's population is aging too quickly.

If you did not regulate hunger, there would be either war. With anyone, purely for food.

Most importantly, it all shoots, sells and buys it. Isn't that enough?

      7 July 2019 13: 53
Yes, it shoots and is sold, but its build quality is not the best. They have a rifle (a small piece chambered for a 22LR copy of a remington) After four shots, the forearm burst, and the processing of parts is not the best.

In China itself, it is not sold from the word "absolutely". Prohibition in China on civilian weapons. And if it doesn’t, it’s just a bottomless market with a population of two billion!

Given the population of China and the patriotism of the Chinese, the arms industry can develop rapidly only due to the domestic market, plus we add the foreign market where the Chinese compete very well due to the price. Over time, the creation of institutes, large arms corporations and the accumulation of experience by engineers will yield results - I think it is worth waiting for a lot of interesting and innovative Chinese weapons systems.
Ps about the fact that the Chinese are not coming up with anything new - everything is changing, yet they had the determination to switch to their own automatic and pistol caliber.

And how can they quickly develop the domestic market if it is forbidden to purchase and store weapons from them. Even hunting rifles are not all varieties you can buy. Another thing is if they have established sales of it to other countries.

Look at the number of people in China, the number of police and the army, do you think this is not enough for development at the expense of the domestic market? With such a population (given the small but constant increase in wealth), foreign markets come almost as a bonus, I exaggerate a little of course, but it’s worth recognizing that the population of China and its domestic market are simply huge!

They have a very small domestic market, weapons are not bought into the army and police every day, but on time (and even now, a lot of parts have also been reduced). And they have weapons purchased and manufactured at state-owned enterprises, and there are no private ones. so that they can sell it to the population in large quantities. How will the state be able to buy more weapons if there are certain estimates for delivery.

Yes, indeed there were more people, but the military units and the police didn’t die at that many times, where it could be sold.

Well, I don’t know, in principle I agree with you. It just seems to me that with the growth of the Chinese economy and well-being, the arms industry will develop very well (in civilian terms, it’s certainly better than ours, TOZ is bent, IL is like that).
Regarding state-owned corporations like Norinko and state purchases from them, maybe this is a good look at the armament of our police - chestnuts, kerdras, cypresses, knights, PP-2000 and so on and so forth, the diversity is just going through the roof and this is just PP.
The number of police officers 1,6 million (2007) China, 757 thousand (2016) Russia, 913 thousand US
Hmmm yes, something we have dofig police!

The main consumer of small arms in the United States is not the army or the police, but the civilian market.

In China, civilian weapons are a total ban.

Not every Chinese person survives the second muffler cleaning.

It’s a pity there is no video shooting of this “Chiang Feng”. You can’t say in the shape of the handle that there can be one more clip in it .. the author was not mistaken here about double power supply?

Initially, dual meals were really envisioned.

To transfer power from one store to another, it was necessary to change the grip of the handle, while holding the corresponding button with your hand. Naturally, in a combat situation this is unacceptable and a dual-power system was abandoned. Samples CS / LS06 in the photo in the article already without a pistol magazine.

The original conversion of the American Thompson submachine gun chambered for 7,62x25TT with a PPS-43 magazine (right side), found by the authors of the Forgotten Weapons site all in the same China. Very cool done, is not it?

That's really what I liked - I liked it! Inexhaustible talents of Chinese do-it-yourselfers! Ah, where is our friend Carbine, he always tore up a vest for his patches cartridge (my apologies to Mauser), and here is a solid Thompson and for that caliber! No, I really liked it.

    Thank you, Vyacheslav! hi

Hmm, very very superficial and with errors. The barrel of the Type 64 is not removable, tightly pinned in the receiver, the muffler body with a "garland" of chambers is attached to the PCB using a bayonet connection and is secured against turning with a latch.
One of the main differences of this PP is not reflected - its special cartridge made on the basis of a 7,62X25 TT cartridge case but having a reduced charge of spherical powder and a bullet from an automatic cartridge 7,62X39, as a result, the cartridge is longer than the standard TTeshny cartridge and is not interchangeable with it, although from Type 64 and it is possible to fire Type 54 (TT) cartridges, but only with the silencer removed and with a noticeably high rate of fire and weapon wear, while using cartridge 64 in weapons under the TT cartridge does not work.

A whole layer of serial Chinese PPs fell out of the story - the Type 79 family, the Type 85 family including a noiseless analogue of Type 64 - Type 85 with an integrated silencer.
