Modern battalion mortars

19
Today, mortars as combat weapon firmly held in the weapons niche due to its tremendous efficiency and low cost. Today they are one of the main types of weapons to support infantry fighting. And in remote and difficult areas are almost the main means of providing fire support.

Today, the designers of the Petrel Research Institute offer several types of mortar weapons for the battalion link of the armed forces:

Modern battalion mortars

- Mortar caliber 120 mm for use in units of land and naval forces;

- Mortar caliber 82 mm for use in mining units, air assault units, parts of the Airborne Forces and units of the Marine Corps.

Mortars 120-mm caliber are upgrading mortar complexes "2-12 Sled." The complexes are located on wheeled chassis of the Ural-43206 type and tracked chassis of the MT-LB type.

This implementation of mortar complexes allowed to significantly reduce the deployment and preparation of complexes for use, and such an implementation made it possible to use the mortar complex with a reduced calculation.

The designers of the Petrel Research Institute are constantly looking for the appearance of a unified mortar complex of 120 caliber mm. In the future, the MK should receive an increased range of application, full automation of the deployment and production of fire support using the latest high-precision mortar ammunition.

Completion of promising mortar complexes will depend on the capabilities of the chassis, on the overall dimensions and carrying capacity.
It is also planned to perform a simplified remote-controlled installation on hydropneumatic supports for installation on an IVECO or Tiger chassis.

Mortar caliber 82 mm designed as a wearable "2B24", the main tactical and technical characteristics surpass all similar foreign developments.

The range of "2B24" increased by 1.5 times in comparison with "2B14". The weight of the increased mine increased by 40 percent. For the armament of the mining divisions, the designers developed the mortar complex “2K32”. Mortar "2B24" set on the tracked chassis MT-LB. This allowed the mortar complex to conduct circular fire, as well as the possibility of using the mortar complex in a portable version.

The prospective development of the 82 mm mortar goes towards the development of lightweight samples with weight characteristics of the order of 30-35 kilograms. Work is underway to increase the range of application of these mortars.

For various special units made MK "2B25". It has greater efficiency of use and increased characteristics of hidden use - smokeless, noiseless and flameless.

The 2B25 complex is distinguished by small overall weight indicators, one person can easily carry it over long distances, and also make landing with this weapon.

Promising developments of this option are carried out in the direction of a lightweight mortar caliber 60 mm, made on the basis of 2B25 with increasing range of use. The expected range of use to 4 000 meters with a mortar weight of the order of 18 kilogram.

I remember back in Soviet times 2B11 --- Czechs installed 120mm on the BMP chassis, it even seemed to have an automatic loader, an NSV machine gun, and, if necessary / possible, a Konkurs ATGM with three missiles.

82 mm will not be enough - it is necessary to take at least 120 mm as a standard.

The mortar cannot be removed from Nona (autogenous cutting for the purpose of scrap metal does not count wink ).
You can shoot with M113, there it is shown in the video.

The mortar cannot be removed from Nona

but it’s possible to shoot with special 120mm thin-walled shells whose range is higher, and high-explosive action like 152mm shells

and the ability to remove the mortar from the chassis is a dubious advantage, for sure it is impossible to dismantle / mount it manually

By the way, in the motorized rifle brigades they want to replace the 120mm Sani battalion-driven mortars with the SAO 2s34 Hosts, which actually differ from the Non only in the chassis

About nona, I immediately realized that you can’t take off .... wink
Yes, the option on the M 113 is more universal than Nona
By the way, here are interesting options for 60 mm mortars

In due time, to facilitate use and maneuver, we placed the mortar directly on the armor of the BTR-80, without a base plate. We even tried to weld, but after 20 shots it usually broke through the armor. We had to abandon the idea.

it's like a samopal! cool idea! but no need to fiddle with the installation of the donkrat, I prepared the cassettes, took aim, covered it, and dumped in half a minute! and "Cornflower" with all due respect to him, how much time must be removed! Only it is necessary not to use this rattletrap, but to choose a shasi more decently, and it will be convenient! and a second car for the crew to carry more mines!

I believe that 82 mm mortars are needed to support the company, you can return the mortar compartment to the company structure (as in the Great Patriotic War), and install automatic mortars such as cornflower on the roofs of their armored personnel carriers as a standard weapon of the machine.
And in the battalion have 120 mm non towed or self-propelled.
The infantry should have all the necessary fire weapons with it, regardless of the type of battalions and equipment of the BTT.
