The decision to remove the Russian Olympic Committee from participation in the Winter Olympic Games 2018 of the year, which implied automatic removal of the team, the IOC adopted 5 December 2017 of the year. According to him, in Russia “they are trying to divide people into patriotic and not very patriotic”, and patriots “should stay at home, and those who go to start, cease to be patriots”. "I think we need to go start", - concluded the athlete.
Alexander Tuchkin, two-time Olympic champion in handball, has a similar opinion. According to him, people devote their whole life to "sports craft", and therefore "they need to compete at the Olympics, especially since some are given a chance to start only once."
The line under these statements was summed up by President Putin. He too remindedthat many of the athletes "went to this competition throughout their lives," and stated:
We, without any doubt, will not declare any blockade, we will not prevent our Olympians from taking part if one of them wants to take part in a personal capacity.
The XXIII Olympic Winter Games were held from 9 to 25 in February of 2018. Russian athletes did not refuse to participate in them and competed without a native flag and anthem. Two gold, six silver, nine bronze medals and the thirteenth place in the final medal standings - these are the achievements of this team.

In the meantime, the past world championship, even if it did not bring victory to the athletes, has become a real event of the year.
The World Championship was remembered by a number of victories of the Russian national team, as well as comic memes, among which the most memorable is, perhaps, the left leg of Akinfeev’s leg, nicknamed “the leg of god” in the net.

The longest bridge in Europe and Russia

Something was written in the networks and in the foreign media: from the “backwardness” of Russia, which is unable to build such a complex object without Western technologies, to the next Potemkin village — supposedly not the bridge is real, but the “Mosfilm scenery”. When the talkers were convinced of the reality of the bridge, statements were made about cracked supports and failures of the ground.
This talk-room ended with the Council of Ukraine from fraternal America: it’s an unpleasant question for Ukraine with a bridge that could have been solved by a bomb strike with a minimum number of casualties. Kiev was advised to bring such a plan not from the White House, but from the Washington Examiner newspaper. The author of the idea was journalist Tom Rogan. Why did a journalist go so far? In his opinion, the Crimean Bridge brought the Russian government "almost to bankruptcy" and cost the treasury "billions of dollars." But now he is a road to the Crimea, securing "the official physical and psychological appropriation of Ukrainian territory."

Apparently, someone abroad has a great envy of this kind of future achievements. Or maybe a great desire to follow the example of an outstanding leader.
In May, Mr. 2018 Mr. Trump signed an agreement to supply Saudi Arabia with weapons worth 110 billion dollars. They also talked about defense contracts for a decade ahead for 350 billion dollars. On this occasion, Trump even danced in Riyadh and in his usual fascinating form repeated his March promises about the creation of new jobs in the United States.
