We can when necessary - the domestic supercomputer KS-computer APK-1

We can when necessary - the domestic supercomputer KS-computer APK-1In October of this year, the head of the military department A. Serdyukov visited VNIIEF (the nuclear federal center). The head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation visited the scientific and methodical center of VNIIEF, the institute of mathematical and theoretical physics. The head of the municipality was introduced to the main activities carried out by VNIIEF.
Anatoly Serdyukov noted that he fully agrees with the direction of work, and foresees the use of future developments in the armed forces.
One of the VNIIEF areas of work is the design and creation of highly parallel high-performance supercomputers for use in the Russian armed forces. These computers have a high reliability of operation at constant round-the-clock work, are provided with warranty support and upgrades to maintain high-quality computer equipment at the advanced level of development of electronic computing equipment, and software updates.
Work in this direction has already given a positive result - a full-fledged computing center has been created at the enterprise of the Ministry of Defense. The center was created using the latest technology in the field of computers and proprietary software and programs optimized for high-speed computers.

KS-computer APK-1.
According to the presidential program “Development of Supercomputers and Grid Technologies”, VNIIEF has developed a high-class teraflop software hardware complex.
The KS-1 computer is designed as a compact universal multiprocessor KS-Computer. It is equipped with software and application software manufactured by RFNC-VNIIEF.
"KS-COMPUTER 1" is intended for solving problems of three-dimensional modeling and simulation. This will reduce the time of engineering and design calculations in the design and creation of new technical projects at enterprises, factories, design bureaus and research institutes in the high-tech field and will increase the accuracy of these calculations.
Domestic developers managed to create a unique computer. Practically, APK-1 is a designer’s dream to calculate modern projects.
The small dimensions of the 1 KS-COMPUTER, make it possible to install it in any workplace, just the usual supercomputers in overall dimensions look like a small separate room. The 1 KS-COMPUTER does not require additional systems, such as a cooling system, nor special technical personnel. We can say that it is practically a slightly larger personal computer. The advantages of KS-1 computers include reduced noise performance and low power consumption. So APK-1 consumes about 1.8 KW, which is much less than the consumption of foreign analogues and previous supercomputers.
The program complex provides an opportunity to develop, configure and execute applications executed in such machine languages as “Fortran-90”, “С ++” and “С”, which are used by OMP and MPI tools. Implemented the ability to use software solutions in parallel, sequential one and a lot of user mode.
1 KS-COMPUTER is provided with a cluster MIMD-architecture with assigned memory, a high-performance interprocess communication system, supports the x86 architecture.
The basis of the supercomputer "KS-COMPUTER 1" multi-core microprocessors of the company AMD united in a high-speed network using the technology InfiniBand QDR.
The system between processor data exchanges with direct switching is based on the proprietary version of the software developed by RFNC-VNIIEF.
The system uses “Gigabit Ethernet” technology for internal and network use.

The main characteristics of the KS-computer APK-1:
- length 650 mm;
- width 325 mm;
- height 752 mm;
- performance 1.1 TFlops;
- Linux operating system;
- 220 B power supply;
- frequency 50 Hz;
- cooling system - liquid;
- Monitor 24-inch LCD;
- Blu-ray drive;
- card reader;
- keyboard and mouse.
- Estimated price 1.45 million rubles.

Additional Information.
A similar foreign-made computer solution costs at least twice as much.
In 2010, 1.1 was allocated a billion rubles for this program. In the 2011 year - 1.5 billion rubles.
Last year, 15 of these supercomputers transferred 11 to domestic design bureaus, enterprises and factories, participating in the program “Development of Supercomputers and GRID Technologies”. 50 percent of the cost of cars paid by the state.
RFNC-VNIIEF also assembled 6 KS-Computer APK-1 for sale on a commercial basis.
The program is designed for the production of 52 "KS-COMPUTER." Most of which will be sold on a commercial basis.
The estimated interest of domestic enterprises around 100 Tflops.
It is planned to release this year "KS-COMPUTER" performance 3 TFlops, created a prototype.
A supercomputer was also built with performance in 1 Pflops, which is announced in March next year. A number of enterprises have already remotely connected to this computer, remote testing tests are being conducted.
Future plans are the creation of a mega-computer with a performance up to 2015 Pflops by 15.

      if a Chinese were running, then the processor would not be AMD, but Loongson, which was the American MIPS RISC processor.

      but the Chinese, although backed up by an abandoned decent processor, do all further development, improvement and production on their own.

    for a processor that has 4 cores (Core 2 Quad) and operates at a frequency of 3.5 GHz, the theoretical performance limit is 4x4x3.5 = 56 gigaflops, and for a processor that has 2 cores (Core 2 Duo) and runs at a frequency of 3 GHz - 2x4x3 = 24 gigaflops.

    Processors are still not ours. And how is it even possible that we have assembled a computer from imported components that are half the price of analogues?

      19 December 2011 21: 59
      Yes, with the element base we have a clear lag. And the fact that our computer is half the price is very likely. First of all, not due to the increase in "Iron", but due to more efficient software, resource allocation technology, well, in general, non-linear solutions.

        After reading the article, I rummaged at the cost of supercomputers (by the way, the performance of 1 teraflops is already the lowest limit for a super console), so there is cheaper in terms of dollar / unit computing power. Now re-search the vadula - if it is interesting through Wikipedia (preferably English), look at modern supercomputers and then follow the links to sources.

In the comments there you can find more confirmation. A plant in Germany was bought from AMD 3 a year ago, and the result came to light

          According to rumors a year ago, that plant remained dusty in warehouses, it wasn’t even exported to Russia, the reason is simple - the crisis, our company took up this business either flew into the pipe, or in debt like silk, not before the development of production her.
          Now they have gone the other way, they are trying to buy a small factory in France at a cheap price and fulfill our orders on it. It seems that they changed the awl for soap (Taiwan to France), but the difference is fundamental, the main problem of our electronics developers is a scanty circulation (there isn’t much need for military purposes), for which the Taiwanese simply don’t take it (they don’t see the point of tinkering with small things), but here at its factory there will be no such problem.
          From domestic production, the only thing they plan to seriously develop with state support is radiation-resistant electronics for satellites.
          Well, there is still hope for a private initiative, there are still niches for mass production, such as purchasing technologies for the production of GLONASS chips or, say, set-top boxes for digital television (almost all digital televisions purchased by our population have the DVB-T standard, but are introduced as a standard in Russia DVB-T2)
          But again, these are only plans, and how many of them were, of those grandiose plans, the mountains will plan, and at the exit zilch ...
