Combat automatic grenade launcher system "RAROR"

According to the FELIN research program, in France at the beginning of 1995, the development of an individual infantry complex for infantry units began. For the implementation of the project "RAROR" took the French company "GIAT". In addition to "GIAT" development involved:
- FN Herstal company - development of the rifle section of the complex;
- “Sfim ODS” company - development of a guidance system, minimization of electronic units;
- the company "Lacroix" and "Euroimpact" - the development of the grenade launcher of the complex and the creation of new types of ammunition.
The company "GIAT" carries out the assembly of prototypes and ensures the interaction of all systems of the complex.

Requirements for the complex.
The automatic grenade launcher complex must have all the capabilities of an effective assault rifle and a modern grenade launcher. The mutual effectiveness of the rifle and grenade launcher should be increased through the use of modern microelectronic parts, using which the complex will use:
- electronic sight with a rangefinder laser performance;
- powerful ballistic computer;
- TV sight with night and day observation channels;
- built-in display, which displays all the necessary information;
- information output on the infantryman's helmet display;

Armament complex.
In AGAR "RAROR" will be used ammunition for the automatic system of the NATO sample caliber 5.56 mm with a bullet of sabot execution. Ammunition is in a removable pallet. The increased effectiveness of the grenade launcher system of the complex is provided by 35 mm caliber ammunition. Due to the sufficient caliber of grenades have a capacious warhead. The companies developing the grenade launcher part suggested using a programmable high-explosive fragmentation warhead in the grenade, which can be programmed directly from the display before shooting grenades, but so far the grenades have several modes exposed on grenades. Something similar used by domestic designers in the development of new anti-aircraft missiles.

The device complex.
We note traditional restraint for the French in the publication of any information about ongoing design weapons programs. The constructive component of the new complex will be performed according to the “bullpup” layout. The basis for the creation of AGK "RAROR" taken French assault rifle "FAMAS".
The grenade launcher system will be equipped with store food, the capacity of one store is equal to three grenades. A grenade launcher is installed on top of the complex.
These devices to prevent kickback when firing from a grenade launcher system with grenades weighing approximately 0.2 kilograms are not reported. Prototypes of the complex.
The first prototype developed by PAPOP was given the working title Phase 1. The prototype has a tubular grenade launcher with three grenades. But due to the large weight and dimensional characteristics, about eight kilograms without ammunition, the prototype decided not to stop and develop a second prototype.
The second version of the prototype is called "Phase 2". The designers took into account all the flaws of the first prototype and made the complex more compact. The designers achieved a reduction in overall and weight characteristics, and the second prototype began to weigh the 5.5 kilogram.
According to the program "FELIN", AGK "RAROR" is focused on use in urban environments. This is done for the possibility of arming the complex of police forces and special forces for the fight against terrorism.
The second prototype is provided with an ammunition magazine for an 25 ammunition system with cartridges. Use of enlarged stores on 40-45 ammunition is possible. The grenade launcher shop has two grenades, but it is possible to configure the complex with five grenades by increasing the weight characteristics up to 10 a kilogram.
The previously described programmable grenades are designed with several modes. Modes are set on the grenade detonator, based on the set mode, the detonator erodes the fragmentation mass in different places. The diameter of the striking action of a grenade is five meters and can be directed forward or backward from a falling grenade or create a volumetric explosion.

Additional Information.
It was expected that this complex would go into service with the French Armed Forces in 2010, then the date was moved to 2012, but at the moment it is known that the work on this project was frozen in favor of the FA-MAS assault rifle, also designed by the FELIN program "As a weapon for individual use.
The approximate price at which PAPOP AGK wanted to produce is also known, it is equal to 3 000 euros.
