New thermal camouflage makes objects invisible.
Recently, the Altix defense company, Ashkelon, introduced the Black Fox thermal masking system. The bottom line is that, for example, an army jeep shielded by special thermal panels becomes invisible to the thermal imager due to mimicry to the environment - “smart” panels adjust external factors to the desired device.
The next stage in the work of Altix was the development of a new component of the disguise - the active window - a special technology, thanks to which the vehicle crew will be able to observe through the open windows and at the same time remain unnoticed by thermal monitoring tools.
In a commentary to the Israeli media, Ronen Meir, Altix CEO, the development is commented on as follows: “If you close the whole machine or one of its sides, it will become invisible, but you still will not see its protected part. Creating an active window eliminated this drawback. It is, in fact, physically a window further, but neither it nor the observers see thermal means of observation in it. ”
In autumn 2010, the company patented its technology in the United States. Armored fighting vehicles can equip it, Tanks and even the Hammers.
The new system can be useful for special forces, which, when conducting various operations, must hide their presence. Regardless of speed, field conditions (temperature, vegetation, humidity) thermal sensors probe the data, and thermal panels create the illusion that the object is perceived as part of the landscape.
In the future, the manufacturer is going to adapt this system for ships and helicopters.
