Iron dome knocks down Palestinian moral

Iron dome knocks down Palestinian moralPalestinian terrorists are disappointed. Last August, terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip decided that they had come up with a way to circumvent the new Israeli anti-missile system Iron Dome. They believed that all they needed to do was to launch at the same time at least seven rockets into the region protected by one battery of the Iron Dome. Islamic terrorists did it in August last year. One rocket slipped, which led to the death of an Israeli citizen. All air defense systems are faced with problems in the tactics of "saturation". However, salvo attacks were no more effective than individual multiple shelling rockets over a long period of time. During two intensive rocket attacks in April last year and in August, Islamic terrorists in Gaza fired more 300 rockets, most of them had a longer range and were sent to large Israeli cities. With all this, they killed only one Israeli. The Iron Dome system detected and hit about 90 percent of missiles aimed at residential areas. This means that only about a tenth of a percent of Palestinian rockets reached areas with people and buildings. Most of these missiles did not kill anyone.

Worse, Palestinians in the north of the Gaza Strip could personally observe the Iron Dome in action, as several missiles that attacked urban areas were shot down by interceptors in the sky. None of the Palestinian media mentioned the Iron Dome, but over the past two months, Israeli intelligence has collected a lot of radio interception in the Gaza Strip, which indicates a demoralization of the population. Hamas did a lot to ensure that thousands of rockets brought to Gaza ultimately put Israel on its knees. The iron dome in action spoiled any enthusiasm for the fact that the rockets would destroy Israel. Missiles are currently seen as a hindrance. Missiles cannot do much harm to Israel, and the Israelis respond with fire bringing much more damage than Palestinian missiles.

Israel purchased seven Iron Dome batteries, which will be delivered in the next two years. Two are already in operation, and the third will be ready by the end of the year. Each battery has a radar and test equipment, as well as four launchers of interceptor missiles. Each battery costs about $ 37 millions, which includes more than fifty missile interceptors.

During the tests, the Iron Dome discovered and shot down the BM-21 (122 mm) and Qassam missiles (a primitive model made in the Gaza Strip). The iron dome uses two radars to quickly calculate the trajectory of the attacking missile and does nothing if the calculation shows that it will fall in a deserted area. But if computers predict a missile is heading into a residential area, the $ 40,000 guided anti-missile is launched to intercept the target.

Such use makes the system profitable. The Israelis know exactly where the 4000 missiles fired by Hezbollah in 2006 and more than six thousand Qassam rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip over the past eight years fell. More than 90 percent of these missiles hit deserted places, and the few that hit settlements have caused only a few casualties. However, the thousands of interceptor missiles to be used against another major attack will cost $ 40 millions. On the other hand, this will save a large amount of military equipment and avoid many casualties among military personnel and civilians. Israel has already deployed a radar system that warns of approaching missiles. The Iron Dome currently uses this system, in addition to another, more specialized, deployed in southern Israel.

Over the past eight years, Palestinians have been forced to launch about 250 rockets in order to kill one Israeli. With the deployment of only two of the seven Iron Dome batteries, that number has grown to 300. With the introduction of an additional Iron Dome battery, it will take even more Palestinian rockets to cause any damage.

Shooting volleys of rockets is more difficult and dangerous than shooting one or two at the same time rockets. More missiles mean more time to prepare and allow Israelis to more easily detect the missile position and attack it with a Hellfire missile. Moreover, the Iron Dome control software system can be optimized to simultaneously handle more targets, so the fire control system can be upgraded. Thus, the new terrorist tactics will not remain successful for long.

    PROFESSOR,
what is the essence of this "anti-kassam" system? I didn't get it from the article. Are they drones, aviation itself, or surface-to-air missiles?
Are you a connoisseur of Israeli topics, maybe try to explain?

missiles land air. the fact is that the kasam missiles are artisanal production, therefore, it was necessary to create an economically viable air defense system that could intercept short-range missiles.

A connoisseur is a bust. Just interested.
The main defense against Kasams are bomb shelters. And not familiar to us from WWII films. Since 1991, every house under construction in Israel (local Arabs do not count - they spat on the laws and the state turns a blind eye to this) should have a security room. It looks like an ordinary room in an apartment, such as a nursery, but the ceiling thickness should be 50 cm reinforced concrete with a layer of steel sheet in 1 mm, walls 30 cm reinforced concrete, steel doors and shutters. The standards of such rooms are available on the Internet and in Russian. The Israelis are very organized in this regard.
Starting from 2008, such a room should be equipped with an air purification system from WMD. Naturally, most schools, hospitals, etc. also protected.
In total, on 250 Kasam, one dead Israeli is passing.

Now the system itself. It consists of several radars for the reliability of determining the coordinates of the target and calculating the intended trajectory. In principle, one radar is enough for these purposes, more is better. The radar itself and the data processing system produce everything in a matter of seconds.
Each battery also has 60 anti-missile. That's exactly what these missiles are about Knowhow. With a rocket cost of only $ 40000, which is an order of magnitude less than such missiles (an air-to-air missile costs about half a million dollars), it is very likely to bring down everything that is needed. If she misses, then there is time to launch the next interceptor. During testing, the system shot down a volley of installation of hail in 40 missiles! Rafel received orders for the Iron Dome from South Korea and Singapore, and these are only the announced orders.

And the last element of the Kasam defense system, although not owned by the Iron Dome, is to prevent launches. Mostly UAVs work here. We spotted the preparation - a point strike. Start-up was detected - they can drop half a ton with F-16.

Human life is more expensive than gold, this is unambiguous and the Iron Dome can bring down not only unguided tactical missiles, but in the war with the Palestinians there is also an economic component

Each launch of the Iron Dome system rocket costs 30-40 thousand US dollars, according to some sources 50 thousand the cost of the 9M22 rocket for the Grad system is about $ 1000, the cost of homemade Kassam rockets is estimated at $ 200 in this way, even at 100% effective interception of an attack will cost 40-200 times more than the cost of the attack itself. But the economic efficiency of the system is that earlier, when a rocket hit a residential quarter, the state paid at least one million shekels of compensation to the city and its inhabitants.

your math is weak ...... the system launches an interceptor rocket only after calculating the trajectory, provided that the trajectory corresponds to a residential / built-up area. look at the statistics of launches in relation to hits and you will understand that in economic terms you are, to put it mildly, mistaken.

          even at 100% efficiency

initially it was not built for 100% interception. )) when reading, try to understand what is written.

Well, I would say there is damage, financial and environmental! Firstly, Palestinian missiles are probably cheaper than Israeli interceptor missiles, and secondly, who knows what they are charged with ..

When you read any such article, the question hovers in the air - where are our similar systems? The structure of our military-industrial complex, which we have now, is extremely inadequate to modern realities and is, in fact, a huge multi-section "chicken coop" operating according to extremely archaic rules.
Here I go to work - crowds of long-legged beauties and handsome men in brilliant costumes are running nearby. What are they all for? Ask any of them a practical question - and you will never get a bright, worthy technical answer.

The work on creating systems similar to what is described in this article should be performed by "intellectual special forces" - small groups of high-level specialists who have both the capabilities and the strict duty to achieve a result (now - this is not the case, now our duty is to have agreements - on 2 million per person in the laboratory and silently watch how this money disappears to no avail)

The whole question is that we didn’t encounter this, and God forbid, we don’t face it. And when some kind of crap falls on your head at any moment, they start thinking how to avoid this. When you need a slingshot with a ballistic computer and laser guidance, then and begin to invent it.

Well, I'm certainly not an expert, but. I know that such guns are installed on our ships under the name "KASHTAN" manufactured by the ZID plant. A cannon under the abbreviation GSh. It shoots down planes and missiles, not only with missile weapons but also with cannon weapons, and has its own semi-intelligent target tracking system. So maybe we should start developing systems based on this?

Similar artillery systems were tested to intercept Kasamov and Grad. A combat laser was also developed, and even successfully passed the tests. However, the choice was not stopped on the Iron Dome - it is very likely to intercept at ranges up to 70 km.

Israel spends huge amounts of money on protection from militants, although in my opinion, it would be easier to "put in place" the Gaza Strip, I think this country has the strength and means for this

Hamas should continue shelling. The Israeli public is very concerned about the cost of security.
Yes, the USA sponsors Israel, but this cannot go on for long - they themselves have serious problems. Yes, the Jewish lobby in the US is strong, but not omnipotent ....
Kassams are just that. Cheap and cheerful.
And further. The overseen intelligence services of Israel with Shalit were very liquidly tackled .... This is a shame!

The Iron Dome missile defense system has been successfully tested at sea
On Wednesday, May 18, information about the successful tests of the sea-based Iron Dome missile defense system was allowed for publication. The tests were carried out in February 2016.
