Pistol Glock 18 (Austria)

Glock 18, released in 1986 year, was created on the basis of the 17 model for the anti-terrorist special forces EKO Cobra (Einsatzkommando Cobra) of the Austrian federal police, who needed a lightweight compact weapon with the possibility of firing bursts. The main difference from the Glock 17 is the presence of an automatic fire mode, which is activated by the lever for switching shooting modes, located on the left surface of the rear part of the casing.
The Glock 18 is also different in the dimensions of the frame and slide-casing guides, trigger parts and barrel, which is done to eliminate interchangeability with other models in order to prevent the conversion of weapons in the civilian market of pistols into fully automatic weapons.

Glock 18 is easy to distinguish also by the barrel muzzle part protruding beyond the breech-casing with openings on the top. These holes are an integrated compensator of the reactive type, reducing the toss of weapons when firing. In the 18C model, the holes in the barrel coincide with the holes in the bolt-casing as in the 17C model. The weapon can use both standard magazines with a capacity of 19 cartridges, and magazines for the 17 model. 31 cartridge stores are also available. Given the very high rate of fire, it is preferable to use the latter, since the magazine fully equipped with the 31 patron in an automatic mode is completely empty in less than two seconds. The pistol demonstrated excellent reliability in rifle testing with thousands of rounds in automatic mode.

Various firms produce butts and magazines with a capacity of up to 100 cartridges. Adaptations to Glock 17 for automatic fire are also made. Shooting in practice of a full magazine with an 100 capacity of cartridges using a butt showed a minimal impact of recoil with no delays. During the 20th century, in different countries they tried to adapt a pistol for firing bursts. These attempts turned out to be unsuccessful, as a rule, and such weapons were later used as ordinary self-loading pistols, of which they only fired single weapons due to the extremely low accuracy and rapid consumption of ammunition in automatic mode. As a result, in special units they prefer to use submachine guns, rather than automatic pistols.

In the US, Glock 18 began to be delivered only from 1989, and then in very small quantities. Despite the huge popularity of other pistols of the company, Glock 18 and Glock 18C are not widely used. The reason is the narrow specialization of the model, legal restrictions and high cost. However, the 18 model is very interesting to shoot. In practice, even with such a high rate of fire, the weapon remains controllable and at short distances puts the bullets fairly well. With the continuous shooting from it hundreds of cartridges shutter-casing and the barrel is very hot, but after cooling the weapon in cold water, the gun continues to work flawlessly.

The barrel, bolt, trigger, drummer and all springs are metal. Frame - high-strength plastic with metal inserts. "Stealth" is a movie with Bruce Willis, only a movie.
