Military transport IL-476 will be tested

16

A section of the fuselage and a wing of an improved IL-476 military transport aircraft were delivered to Zhukovsky near Moscow.

In this suburban town, with a delay of almost a year, the resource testing of the long-awaited IL-476, an in-depth modernized model of the military transport IL-76, starts. In Zhukovsky, the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) from Ulyanovsk were delivered the wing and center section (middle part of the fuselage) of an experimental model of the newest aircraft.

In the largest aviation research institute of Russia IL-476 will be assembled and tested for strength. When testing will be set limit modes and service life of the aircraft.

According to media reports, the life test of the new aircraft should end by the spring of 2012. Especially for the production of aircraft at the plant "Aviastar" prepared production departments. Soon the plane will have to take to the air and begin its mass production.

According to a source from the aviation industry, a new stand was built more than a year ago for testing the IL-476. The task is simple - we are obliged to test the updated parts of the aircraft, first of all it is the center section and the wing. The aerodynamic properties of the aircraft did not undergo major changes, there is no need to blow it in the wind tunnel and certify it again, - he said.

- The main difference between the new aircraft and its predecessor is the reinforced wing, consisting of three parts in width. Earlier, three more connectors were added along the length of its plane to the wing structure, which led to weighting. Thanks to the newly developed wing, an unloaded plane could “lose weight” on 2 tons. They can now be added either to the fuel stock or to the load capacity. And due to the installation of the latest modern equipment, another half-ton was saved.

In addition to the modernized wing, the IL-476 received more modern fuel-efficient PS-90А-76 engines, a “glazed” cabin, which is equipped with the latest multi-functional monitors instead of conventional analog instruments, modern radioelectronic equipment - communication systems and radar.

The military department reported that the new “Ilyushin” is “coming late” for a year from the planned schedule.

The Defense Ministry reported that the first copy of the IL-476 was supposed to make the first flight back in 2011, and the first vehicles were to be delivered to the troops in 2012. However, the reality is that the first tests were postponed for the 2012 year, and the serial IL-476 will most likely appear in the 2013 year.

Manufacturers explain such a delay of the aircraft by the fact that there were unforeseen difficulties in setting up the production process in Ulyanovsk.

Manufacturers claim that when designing the IL-476 there were many problems. First of all, it is connected with the delivery of documentation and equipment from Tashkent, where these machines were previously produced, and a shortage of personnel with relevant experience, and the translation of technical documentation on the ILO into numbers, etc.

The serial production of these machines in Ulyanovsk should be mastered by 2015 year. If there are no failures with financing, the Russian Ministry of Defense will receive the first 50 aircraft before the 2020 year.

Editor-in-chief of TsAGI weeklyAviation and rocket technology ”Ivan Kudishin claims that in its class the IL-76 is considered the best aircraft in the world, and the funds and efforts spent on its modernization are worth it.

Mr. Kudishin says further, the military transport IL-76 is very easy to manage and reliable. Proof of this is his impeccable service in the Third World countries and in hot spots. It is easy to operate, and its further modernization with an increase in fuel efficiency will lead to its greater profitability, making it even more popular among commercial air carriers.

And so they put the old man in the snow

      Memoirs of an eyewitness

I witnessed how in these 3-meter snowdrifts, between the icy concrete and the dirt strip (on the adjacent side safety strip) ... the Panevezys RA-76013 board was taken off the assembly line, on the fly-around - they missed the signs ... "Run" was 400 meters (and then, probably added ...), I will never forget how he stuck out into the sky with his tail - the crew climbed onto the snow without a stepladder, the navigator's cabin was under the snow! The reverse was not even included - it was frozen at the beginning of the strip, rooted to the spot!
One or two engines themselves died out, that the snowballs were grabbed ...
They scored snow for mechanization and before turning off the engines - they removed mechanization from the working NP-89 (and destroyed the mechanization of the extension of the flap sections) ...
Torn, dented the bottom sheets of the fuselage skin starting from the front trunk, the bottom inflows and DISS dented - riveted until the summer ...

If only he were no worse than the old man of the 76th

The incident occurred in June 1978. A squadron of ten aircraft flew on a mission. Major Anatoly Sobolev was the squad leader and led one of five pairs of the squadron on his IL-76. 12 minutes after take-off at an altitude of more than four kilometers, the entire on-board electrician at the lead refused. Only motor groups, a magnetic compass, and also mechanical indicators of height and speed worked.

It is impossible to leave the plane in such conditions. Firstly, without automation, the car immediately goes into a tailspin. Secondly, without a hydraulic drive it is very difficult to open the hatches. But it is also impossible to report an emergency situation - the connection does not work! Sobolev made the only right decision: to turn around without warning and look for a way to land. After him, at the command of the headquarters, a driven aircraft from his pair moved. But since, as we already know, the radio was de-energized, Sobolev could only wave his wings, which in the language of the pilots means: "I see you." However, the slave crew could not understand what the problem was, and stepped aside.

Meanwhile, the de-energized aircraft fell two kilometers and almost reached the edge of the clouds. Then they had to “break through”. It is extremely difficult and dangerous to do this in conditions of a ten-point cloud cover (i.e., when the sky is overwhelmed by a dense veil). Since the horizon did not function, one could not notice the dangerous roll of the machine and “fall” into a tailspin. Sobolev was fabulously lucky: suddenly he saw a narrow gap in which the Volkhov shone with a black thread. It was there that he directed the car.

In fact, the IL-76 control manual clearly stated that it was impossible to land a de-energized aircraft. The point is not even in the absence of devices, but in the fact that without power supply, boosters are turned off. To make it clear to the reader, we can draw an analogy with the power steering on the steering wheel of a car. Recently, GURs put on almost all new cars to facilitate the work of hands. So, the force applied to the steering wheel of a car is tens of times weaker than to the helm of an airplane.

By controlling the ailerons on the wing, the tail on the tail and the planes on the stabilizers, you have to deal with crazy air resistance. Aviation boosters give an effort of 1200 kilograms! As two pilots, Anatoly Sobolev and Alexander Kochetov, managed to manipulate the helms with their own hands - only God knows. From tension, Sobolev's vessels burst on his hands ...

Nevertheless, the machine successfully overcame the clouds, and it was not so difficult to visually detect the airfield to board it. Moreover, the navigator Valery Khoroshevsky helped to stay on track. However, there was another important problem - idle flaps, which create lift when landing and prevent the aircraft from "hanging out". So I had to land with a “smooth wing” and at an increased speed: about 320 km / h instead of the prescribed 220. As later recognized by those who were at the airport that day, it was scary to watch the landing of Sobolev. The car drove from side to side, like a dry sheet, the pilots had a considerable chance to miss the lane. But the crew managed.

The chassis also had to be released manually: the flight mechanic for airborne equipment Boris Mezin pulled the emergency lever and opened the locks. Typically, the sash closes back, leaving only a small hatch for the landing gear open. But because of the disconnected electric drive, the shutters could not be removed, and the landing was accompanied by a sheaf of sparks from the duralumin rubbing on concrete.

IL-76, of course, rolled out of the strip. After all, the brakes did not work, and they slowed down the car with the help of the engine reverse, which was controlled by the flight mechanic Alexander Gudyma. As a result of the actions of the crew, neither people nor equipment were injured. The only thing that had to be replaced was the slightly damaged chassis flaps. After that, the aircraft was ready for service in the sky.

But Major Sobolev, as the commander of the ship, was suspended from flight for two months, while the investigation was ongoing. I was the main specialist in this analysis, since I specialized in just aircraft equipment. The radio operator was found guilty of the incident, who forgot to turn on the rectifier device, which converts alternating current into direct current. Although the radio operator himself vowed that he had fulfilled his duties in full. As a result, Sobolev was demoted for the fact that he "did not follow." Although how could he “keep track” while sitting at the helm?

KB Ilyushin and personally the chief designer Genrikh Novozhilov, by the way, expressed great gratitude to Anatoly Sobolev. Bureau specialists talked a lot with the crew, after which the instruction for the IL-76 turned from a thin booklet into a thick volume: seven sections were added there that deal with actions in extreme situations.

Of course, 32 years have passed since then, and then Sobolev was again promoted to the detachment commander. But it seems to me that no logical point has been set in history. Then the matter was not made public and reacted unfairly to the heroic pilots. In no case do I want to belittle the merits of the pilots of Alrosa-Avia, but I am sure that Anatoly Sobolev also needs to be awarded, albeit many years later.

One figure was added, but in essence, what has changed? Nothing special. And the pilots who were able to land the plane without an accident, a deep bow. There would be such people, and such reliable technology, but more.

      1) First you need to carefully read the article, then many questions will disappear by themselves

      2) The biggest difference: The new 476th will be produced in RUSSIA, and on TAPOiCH in Uzbekistan

    Pleasant news, PRI-YAT-NEISHAYA.
Of the entire line of Soviet-Russian aircraft, the fate of two aircraft, the Il-76 and the Il-96, was of particular concern to my heart. 96th (long-haul) is not lucky yet, only 1-2 pieces a year are made, and even then not every year, but it’s nice for a transport worker. Previously, they did it in Tashkent, and production in Uzbekistan is lost.
I do not recall a single disaster with the IL-76 due to a malfunction of equipment, and this is almost 40 years of operation of the machine.
IL-76 (sorry, now 476 smile ) is definitely better than the American "Hercules".
    Good news ...

and right, why reinvent the wheel?
Pindos have been upgrading their C-130 from time to time
electronics "grows smarter" over the years, but something new in engines or aerodynamics is difficult and expensive to say and it is not known whether it will be better
But why feed Uzbek brothers, probably have their own power?

I think that mainly Russians worked in Tashkent, so I offer them citizenship. Resettlement programs seem to be funded, it’s better than investing in Spain.

Really a joyful event. For a long time, the Airborne Forces together with the BTA are waiting for this car. We really really love the 76th. Very worried about his future fate. Now, thank God. And the flight range will increase, and the accuracy of the landing will become better, and will take more cargo on board. All the same, there are changes for the better in the country!
