Intended for arming the crews of combat vehicles, calculations of the ATGM, flight personnel of the Air Force, Airborne Forces, as well as units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Reliable, versatile weapon - possesses optimal dimensions and weight, in combination with a grenade launcher forms a new type of multipurpose assault weapon - a rifle-and-missile complex.

The use of the bullpup layout significantly reduces the length of the machine. The forward direction of departure of the shotgun case makes the weapon comfortable for shooting from the right and left shoulders, reduces gas pollution in the area of the shooter’s face. Closed receiver improves the reliability of the weapon. Installing a special grenade launcher for high-performance 40-mm shots allows you to hit the manpower and equipment with a flat and hanging fire.

    Why describe the export option?

7.62mm automatic A-91, a variant of the mid-1990s. Integrated 40mm grenade launcher located above the barrel

The modern version of the A-91 assault rifle under the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge (export version. 2003). A 40mm grenade launcher is located under the barrel.
The A-91 automatic grenade launcher system (sometimes also referred to as the A-91M designation) was developed in the Tula Instrument Design Bureau (KBP) under the guidance of the famous weapons designer V.P. Gryazev. This model was originally intended for arming special operations forces of the army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, as well as for export. The weapon was created in bullpup configuration, with a 40mm grenade launcher integrated into the design. During the development, the configuration and appearance of the weapon changed several times, the most noticeable change was the location of the 40-mm GP-95 grenade launcher - if in the early samples it was located above the barrel of the weapon, in front of the carrying handle, and in front of the barrel there was an additional vertical handle to hold the weapon, then in the latter case, the grenade launcher moved to a more traditional place, under the barrel of the weapon, and its casing forms the forend. When creating the A-91, the developers decided to get rid of the main problems associated with the bullpup layout - the ejection of spent cartridges from the shooter's face itself when firing from the left shoulder, and the center of gravity shifted to the rear of the weapon. The second problem was solved by simply installing a massive grenade launcher in front of the weapon, and to solve the first problem, a scheme was developed with the cartridges removed from the receiver forward through a special channel that runs along the breech of the barrel and leads the cartridges out to the right, just behind the pistol grip. A similar idea was partially implemented in the Belgian assault rifle FN F2000, however, for the first time a similar scheme was implemented in the experimental assault rifles of Korobov and Afanasyev, created in the USSR in the 1960s. The receiver, which does not have a window for ejecting spent cartridges, allowed not only to protect the mechanisms of the weapon from dirt, but also to reduce the gas contamination in the area of the shooter's face, thereby increasing the shooting comfort.

Currently, the A-91 assault rifle is advertised by the PBC as a promising weapon, however, there are no data on mass production and procurement of this type in open sources. In general, it is surprising that there is no detailed information about this undoubtedly interesting sample in open sources, both Russian and foreign.
The A-91 assault rifle is built on the basis of traditional automation with a gas extraction circuit and the barrel is locked by turning the shutter. The ejection of spent cartridges is carried out forward, on the right side of the weapon above the pistol grip, through a special channel that runs along the barrel. The loading handle is located above, under the handle for carrying weapons, and is equally accessible to both hands. Fire modes - single shots and bursts. The translator of fire modes (he also acts as a fuse) is located on the right side of the receiver, in its rear part, and the device is similar to that on Kalashnikov assault rifles. The machine has two triggers - the front one controls an integral 40mm grenade launcher, the rear one controls the machine itself. At the same time, the rear (automatic) trigger has an additional automatic fuse against accidental shots, like Glock or GSh-18 pistols. Grenade launcher is an integral component of the machine.
Sights include a rear sight integrated into the carrying handle and a front sight mounted on a barrel. Additionally, a folding sight for a 40mm grenade launcher is located on the front of the barrel. The upper part of the carrying handle is made in the form of a Picatinny rail type, and allows you to install various types of optical and night sights on it.

Based on it, a two-medium machine was created

".... The two-medium special ADS machine inherited from the prototype the bullpup configuration with extensive use of plastics in the design of the weapon body, as well as the general arrangement of mechanisms with gas-operated automatics, locking the barrel with a rotary bolt and ejection of spent cartridges forward through a short tube passing to the right of the barrel the rear base of the handle for carrying weapons. The design of the gas outlet mechanism was introduced to a switch for the environment "water / air", and the design elements of the machine were revised taking into account the provision of operation in water. 5.45N39, etc.), and underwater 7 PSP by installing magazines with the corresponding cartridges and switching the regulator of the gas vent mechanism.Power supply with both types of cartridges is carried out from regular magazines from AK-6 assault rifles. VOG- 7. The firing control of the grenade launcher is carried out using an additional trigger located inside the trigger guard in front of the main one. If there is no need for it, the barrel of the grenade launcher along with the grenade sight can be removed to facilitate the weapon. For special operations, the ADS assault rifle can be equipped with a silencer for the sound of shots, optical and night sights, a laser designator, and a tactical flashlight.

According to reports, currently (summer 2009) a two-medium special ADS machine is being tested in the Russian naval special forces. According to incoming reviews, it noticeably surpasses the existing APS submachine guns in combat effectiveness both under water, and even more so in the air. When used "on the shore" with conventional 5.45mm cartridges, the ADS assault rifle is also at least as effective in combat effectiveness as the standard AK-74 assault rifles. It is assumed that in the future it will be able to replace in service not only "underwater" APS assault rifles, but also partially "conventional" AK-74 and AKS-74U assault rifles, which are in service with various special forces units of the Russian Navy and other law enforcement agencies ... A91 products are made roughly, they do not fully correspond to their purpose, for example: 9A91 and VSK-94 adopted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (products have a barrel length comparable to the PM barrel length, not a collapsible silencer, and sighting devices, for which you need "exclusive" devices).

And what does the 9A91 and VSK-94 have to do with it?
The A-91 is a full-fledged assault rifle with a normal barrel length. Moreover, it was originally created for bullpup, therefore it does not have the same drawbacks that alterations from the classic layout (for example, "Thunderstorm") have: the liners, together with the powder gases, are thrown forward far from the shooter's face, well balanced. A normal assault rifle for special forces and for those who value the compactness of the weapon without sacrificing performance.

Of all that in appearance does not resemble a hunting rifle, you can’t quickly aim

it’s just a licked thunderstorm under the Kalashnikov’s cartridge, but optics are really set too high. Well, plus everything, he has the same problems as all the bullaps.
