NPO Strela has shown a radar reconnaissance vehicle SNAR-10М1

At the recent exhibition “Oboronexpo-2014”, held in Zhukovsky near Moscow, Russian and foreign enterprises demonstrated their new developments, as well as showed several samples of equipment. The Tula NPO Strela demonstrated an updated version of the SNAR-10М1 mobile radar reconnaissance station (1RL232-2М). In the spring, it was reported that this machine passed state tests, and now the new model was shown to everyone.

Self-propelled radar reconnaissance station SNAR-10М1 is a further development of the equipment of the СNАR-10 family using new equipment and new element base. The purpose of the machine remains the same. In the armed forces, this technique must monitor and detect various ground, surface and low-flying air targets. The station SNAR-10М1 is capable of detecting single and group moving ground targets, for example, armored vehicles and equipment groups or enemy enemy strength.

In addition, the station can be used to monitor the waters and air space at low altitudes, which allows timely detection of ships, boats, airplanes or helicopters. An important feature of the complex is the ability to detect ruptures of artillery shells, which allows you to control artillery fire.

As before, the MT-LB tracked chassis, which has undergone some changes, is used as the base for the radar reconnaissance mobile station. The necessary electronic equipment is installed in the middle and aft parts of the base machine. A module with antenna equipment is mounted on the stern roof. According to the developer, the combat mass of the machine SNAR-10М1 reaches 12,7 tons. The chassis provides highway speeds up to 60 km / h.

To ensure the efficiency of electronic equipment, the intelligence machine carries a separate diesel generator. This unit supplies electricity to all onboard systems, including climate equipment. Comfortable work of the crew of four is provided by air conditioning, heating system and filter-ventilation unit. Declared the possibility of autonomous operation of the complex for three days. The time of continuous operation of electronic systems is limited to 24 hours.

The radar antenna is located in the back of the case of the SNAR-10М1 machine. The antenna design provides an azimuth range from 12 to 360 degrees in 6 ° increments. Electronic equipment allows you to monitor the situation at distances from 200 m to 40 km. At such distances, the complex CHAP-10М1 is able to find various moving targets, from vehicles to shells.

A moving person is detected at a distance of about 15 km, for a tank-type target this parameter is 35 km. In addition, the radar machine SNAR-10М1 can be used to monitor the work of artillery. The detection range of ground artillery shells is 10 km, for surface gaps, this parameter is twice as large.

The use of new elements of the equipment allowed to significantly improve the accuracy of target detection in comparison with the previous modifications of the complex. СNАR-10М1 can determine the distance to a moving target with an accuracy of 10 m. The errors in determining the azimuth are reduced to 0,12 °.

The machine SNAR-10М1 is equipped with equipment that allows you to monitor the situation in a particular sector, receive and process data, and transmit information about the detected targets to the command post. To enhance the performance in the complex of electronic equipment, there is a navigation system with an electronic map of the area and satellite navigation equipment.

The armored hull of the base chassis MT-LB protects the crew and electronics from small bullets weapons and artillery shell fragments. For self-defense, the SNAR-10М1 radar reconnaissance vehicle has a PKT machine gun of 7,62 caliber mm. This weapon is mounted in the commander's turret, located in front of the roof, at the starboard side.

In May of this year, NPO Strela announced the completion of state tests of the complex SNAR-10М1. The radar reconnaissance complex successfully coped with the tests and showed its characteristics. Details of the test of the new machine are unknown. News about the passage of a complex of state tests suggest that in the foreseeable future it will be adopted and put into serial production.

After the start of serial production and deliveries to the troops, the new CHAR-10М1 machines will gradually replace the outdated equipment of similar purpose with the SNAR-10 Leopard, and then, possibly, the newer CHAR-10M Panther systems. The base machine of the family of radar reconnaissance systems was supplied to the troops from the beginning of the seventies, in the middle of the two thousandth it was replaced by a newer CHAP-10M. Approximately ten years after that, the troops can receive another updated and improved version of the mastered equipment - СНАР-10М1.

An important feature of the complex is the ability to detect artillery shell explosions, which allows you to control artillery fire.

This is not a feature of the complex, it is a feature of all Soviet / Russian ground artillery reconnaissance stations. And to the Rules of Shooting and Fire Control, the article "Targeting with a SNAR-type radar" appeared a long time ago.

The station, of course, is good, but personally I think the new mobile radar complex using UAVs from the same manufacturer is more promising

The system is much more resistant to weapons and mobile.

Mounting on an UAV is certainly great, but this is not a panacea, because. it will not always be possible to use it and, again, only against wild Kalashi. And if the weather is not in the yard ..... or the enemy has at least some kind of air defense, then such a complex gets off with a bang. So MTLB Base is a more reliable and cheaper thing.

"Non-flying weather" is it like? Is it raining? Zero visibility? So drones do this in a plane-parallel way.
Air defense? These UAVs are working on their territory, they have no need to climb to the enemy. This is the same SNAR station, only located at a higher altitude and therefore having fewer "dead zones"
Well, if they use something long-range like "Patriot" - then it's even better. The cost of one missile is more than a dozen of such helicopters, and the anti-aircraft missile launcher, having revealed its position, will get rid of it in full.

        Cheaper does not mean better.
And they were even too lazy to install a lifting device, which at a low price can dramatically increase combat capabilities.

And not only air defense knocks down UAVs. EW generally jamming communications and the end of all UAVs and guided missiles.

EW? It is quite difficult to drown the communication line between the control machine and the drone, especially as in this case when a directional antenna is used. However, no one in their right mind will bother with this. They will jam the radar. A ground installation is just as vulnerable as a UAV radar.

But there is another unpleasant thing, electronic intelligence. Which in passive mode at a time calculates the coordinates of the radar. And if for a complex with an UAV this is not so scary, then for a ground-based complex it is fraught with a fire raid. Given that the adversary has precision munitions, fatal

and they’re not going to get complicated. There is a simulating interference and pliz: the drone does not understand a damn and flies somewhere in the wrong place

It is more difficult to jam radars (especially ground-based ones): its power is orders of magnitude greater than that of communications, especially those located on a drone. By the way, weight restrictions (for a drone) give limitations on the power of the radar station on it.

a few comments on the RTOs of NPO Strela:
      1.) for KAMAZ trucks, the exhaust pipe is directly under the right door of the kung, with the door open, the cabin is quickly filled with CO;
      2.) ladders - just a crap;
      3.) A gentle air conditioning on the roof and a fixed roof post will suffer during the first trip to the forest;
4.) if the equipment is powered by the batteries of KAMAZ itself, then with the engine turned off, in a couple of hours the battery will land to zero and the machine cannot be moved even by the tractor - the brake pads are blocked.

In my opinion, everyone is gradually moving to 155 mm howitzers
barrel 52 caliber. They scorch 40 km.
There, they are only guided by GPS. Radar will not help.

Yes, and let them move on, that’s not the point.
There is a SNAR radar designed primarily for isolating the database area. To prevent the approach of reinforcements, troops intended for counterattack, rear columns

Nobody will destroy barrels with gunfire with sighting at a distance of more than 10 km, this is not a tsar’s business, and there are targets directly on the battlefield for it. MLRS, including cassette, including means of remote mining will be beaten

Well, if it is necessary to adjust the fire at longer ranges, you can use the "Zoo" and the Old Soviet one can do this at ranges of up to 15-20 km

"MLRS will be hitting, including cassette ones," ////

Passion MLRS ... a little from the past.
LMS, for example the Iron Dome, instantly calculates
missile trajectory. The first rocket has not yet made 1/3 of the trajectory,
and the exact installation position is already marked on the GPS.
Such an MSA can control the fire of anything - aircraft, artillery,
            not just missile defense.
Before the Grad / Tornado completes the salvo, they will already fire at it.
and howitzers, and from the air.
The IDF is skeptical of the effectiveness of MLRS.

and howitzers, and from the air.

everything is possible. But sometimes one correct salvo can solve the matter. Plus MLRS is that regardless of whether they start to shoot at him in a minute or 5 after the start of the first shell, he did his job (and the shooting can be carried out remotely (I mean that the calculation is intact)). Further, the task remained to remain intact (and for this there is a bunch of tricks both organizational, tactical and even engineering plan)
so that the low IDF rating of the MLRS is rather caused by the peculiarities of the use of artillery in the Middle East (point surgical strikes prevail in conditions of rather dense development).
For barreled artillery, under the conditions of the detection and response rate described by you, perspectives are generally bleak:
              1) the gun is capable of firing 1 time (then it will simply be crushed)
              2) calculation with the gun will also die (it cannot nail in the machine)

Barreled artillery is more tenacious than MLRS.
The projectile is smaller in size and flies faster, therefore
it is more difficult for the radar to detect it and calculate the location of the howitzer.
With accurate shooting, you need several times less guns.
Instead of the usual "accumulation of enemy artillery" - several
                guns periodically changing positions.

I don’t even know directly, see the objection for No. 1 and No. 2 (no one hangs out at the RSZO and it’s easier to rinse off (she uncovered the cabin, the guides put on the stopper - everything went off).)

As a user (although not active) of the "Zoo" I can say - almost without difference (especially when compared with 152 mm howitzer shells). Another thing is that the MLRS salvo is a group target and the projectile is a single one. but if the battery is hammering in one gulp, then, as they say, find ten differences (maybe there are fewer groups of targets). a volley was fired and not a specific point.

                  - Well, this is actually a trump card MLRS (for less time a higher salvo density, albeit to the detriment of accuracy, but artillery (unless it is of course field) areal goals)
