Mine rink. T10 Sherman M4A2
The rink of war is not a figurative expression. Someone considers this the brainchild of a gloomy American genius as a mine clearing machine, someone is freaking a tank, but it is, of course, first of all - a symbol of a tank breakthrough, heavy, fast and inexorable.
This "rink of war" was originally made for mine clearance of minefields and belongs to the category of so-called medium tanks.
During World War II, the enemy’s minefields were a great danger to tanks. They tried to fight the mines in different ways, but the most rational seemed to teach the tank to make its way. To do this, they began to invent mine trawls of various designs, in which, according to the degree of exoticness, the Americans were leading by a large margin. One of the most entertaining samples was the T10 Sherman M4A2. Tank Sherman lost tracks, and instead got powerful heavy rollers, which could crush and undermine the mines without risk for their own steel skin.
Judging by the various photos, there were several modifications of these minesweepers, which suggests that this proek still had some "life", unlike many other engineering monsters.
Another option to experiment with the Shermans was the trawl of the Crab system - a bundle of chains mounted on the shaft in front of the tank with loads that rotated and hit the ground in front of it with all force. At the same time clouds of dust were rising, and mines were also undermined at the same time. It turned out very spectacular.
