Kalashnikov conquers America

37
January 14, 2014 the newly created Russian weapons The Kalashnikov concern, part of the Rostec state corporation, has entered into an agreement with the Russian Weapon Company (RWC). The agreement was signed at the Shot Show 2014 in the USA and involves the transfer by RWC of exclusive rights to supply Izhevsk small arms to the United States of America, as well as to Canada. It is estimated that the annual export of small arms to these countries will be about 80-200 thousand products. It is worth noting that the RWC company has been working with the Izhevsk enterprise for 2 years, supplying up to 90% of all civilian weapons produced in the United States. It is assumed that the new contract, designed for 5 years, will increase the scale of joint cooperation, as well as the assortment of Izhevsk products, which are now in demand in the United States.

Experts believe that the concern is able to improve its position in the American market, since in the US the name Kalashnikov does not lose popularity among those citizens who love and appreciate small arms. The most popular overseas used civilian carbines "Saiga", which were made on the basis of the world-famous Kalashnikov assault rifle. The quality of these carbines was also appreciated by the American police. After the Shot Show 2012 show in Las Vegas, Izhmash signed a contract for the supply of Saiga-12 rifles to American police units.

According to the agreements concluded at the Shot Show 2014 exhibition, the official dealer of the concern - the RWC company - received an exclusive right to supply the USA and Canada with up to 30 types of small sporting and hunting weapons of Izhevsk gunsmiths for a period of 5 years. This, in particular, is about such popular brands of Izhevsk small arms, as varieties of carbines and Saiga, Sobol, Bars, Elk, Rekord rifles, as well as hunting rifles produced by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. In addition to the sales themselves, RWC will undertake to provide a full range of activities aimed at promoting Russian products in the North American market, as well as serving them.

Kalashnikov conquers America

According to the military expert Alexander Golts, who is the deputy editor-in-chief of the online magazine “Daily Journal”, not only hunting enthusiasts but also American police forces acquire semi-automatic weapons for special and sports purposes like the Saiga carbines. A feature of the system, which bears the name of Kalashnikov, is simplicity and reliability. These two qualities will always be in demand by people who acquire small arms for self-defense, as well as representatives of the power unit. In the saiga carbine, the AK mechanism was used. At the same time, deliveries to the United States directly to the Kalashnikov assault rifle fall under the current federal ban. At the same time, in American stores you can freely buy not only Russian Saiga carbines, but also AK-47 and AK-74 assault rifles, which are made in Romania or Bulgaria. Prices start with a mark in 600 dollars.

Currently, many US companies have learned to circumvent the federal ban, as the automatic parts are installed parts from the United States. In any case, such companies do not need the emergence of a major competitor in the face of the Kalashnikov concern, even if it will only trade in civilian products. Perhaps it was for this reason that Konstantin Busygin, head of the Kalashnikov concern, who was traveling to an exhibition in Las Vegas was denied a visa. According to military expert Ivan Konovalov, the sale of weapons is a very tough kind of modern business. Players of this market are ready to use any methods to remove competitors from their path. A presence at the exhibition of the general director of the concern would be desirable, but without it everything went smoothly. Instead of Busygin, the contract with the Russian Weapon Company was signed by his marketing deputy, Pavel Koligov, who regarded non-issuance of a visa to Busygin as another attempt to prevent the Russian weapon manufacturer from gaining a foothold in the international market. On the American side, the deal was signed by Thomas McCrosin, who is the general director of the Russian Weapon Company.

Deputy Marketing Director of the Kalashnikov Russian Arms Concern believes that an exclusive dealer in the North American market, represented by RWC, will be able to help the concern pursue a consistent policy in the region in the sale of sporting and hunting weapons. From this cooperation, the Kalashnikov concern is waiting to increase its share in the largest small arms market in the world. At the end of 2013, the USA accounted for 90% of the total export of Kalashnikov sporting and hunting weapons. And according to information for the 2010 year, Russia held the second place in exports to the United States of self-loading rifles and carbines and was among the top ten in the supply of pistols to the country.

In Las Vegas, the exposition of the Russian arms concern was visited by the famous American actor of militants Stephen Seagal. Earlier that Seagal will advertise weapons of production of Izhevsk concern, ITAR-TASS reported. According to him, a preliminary agreement was reached between the actor and the concern. In what role was the actor at the exhibition, the company did not specify.

Rumors about Steven Seagal's connection with the Izhevsk enterprise appeared in October 2013, when the actor unexpectedly for many visited the capital of the Udmurt Republic on a visit. Sigal also visited the enterprise itself. This story became a kind of continuation of cooperation Segal and Russian gunsmiths. They also talked about the fact that Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees all issues in the military-industrial complex in Russia, suggested that Seagal become the official face of the Kovrov plant to them. Degtyareva during major international exhibitions.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the Kovrov enterprise, Stephen Sigal has already agreed to be the face of the Moscow enterprise ORSIS, which is developing modern sniper rifles. Currently in Moscow are working on a sniper rifle called ORSIS by Steven Seagal, the work is already close to its logical conclusion. The actor was personally going to test the novelty, as well as apply it as a game weapon in one of his new films. In any case, the involvement of Steven Seagal to promote the products of the Kalashnikov Concern could be a good marketing ploy.

We wish the company success! This market is very competitive and complex. And also, to improve the quality of products for the domestic market of carbines. (I feel that they are going to be minus ... but there really are problems.) Then you look and the hunting products will rise in the domestic market.

Everything is beautiful of course, and we will not talk about the laws of arms here and here ...
The only question is - why is the price in the ShA often lower than in Russia, and this, taking into account transportation, customs, markups for dealers, etc.?!

Commercial activity of a real domestic producer is generally good, at least there is an opportunity to show yourself and others to see, be in good shape and not boil in your own juice ...

and now arms manufacturers must lobby to make it easier for Russians to buy Russian weapons. This market is idle! ;) The Americans did not shoot each other (although they are "well, stupid" (C) Zadornov). The sale of weapons, as well as of cars, pulls along a bunch of economic sectors - from woodworking to machine tool building.

How Boar translation I fully support! Izhmash in the segment of civilian weapons drives bloody mess (I’m not considering the army, it is not sold in the store). Recently, self-loading and a pump were chosen. The Izhevsk people both took it in their hands and put it back. The impression that they were not collected by famous gunsmiths, but by students of vocational schools, moreover, of the first year. Vyatka Polyana doesn’t allow this. Here is a fly in the ointment.

Unfortunately, you are partly right. I do not know about a military weapon, but the "hunting" samples from "Izh" are often not very high quality. As a long-term operator of the weapon of this enterprise, I can say that it usually requires refinement and adjustment. Moreover, samples of the same type, from the same batch, can vary greatly in quality. Quality control department at the plant works poorly. There are no special complaints about the Saiga, except that the stores require adjustment to a specific weapon, otherwise they tend to unfasten spontaneously with full cartridges.

The chicken bites by the grain, maybe the Kalashnikov will "bite" and more, with good product promotion. Bulgaria, Hungary, China - yes they sell and cheaper than ours. But the Americans themselves say that only the Russian one is 100% reliable.

You cannot look at Russian "civilian" weapons without tears. Perhaps the best samples are supplied to the US market (especially in terms of build quality), but structurally the same Saiga is poorly suited for hunting. Tactical application? I doubt there are samples in the world that are both more powerful and more convenient. Recreational shooting? Closer - everyone wants to have a Kalash in their collection. But with such a niche you cannot conquer the market.
PS By the way, which police department has adopted the Saiga? Or did the entire US police throw out Remingtons and Winchesters and ordered millions of shipments from Russia?

No one said that Saiga cannot be popular in the USA, especially among the "guys with guns". The fact is that it has virtually no purpose other than recreational shooting. It is not convenient for hunting, do not believe me - stand with mine in the hunting store, listen to the reviews. How is the tactical model? And which state adopted it for service (not an unknown department and not a few samples for testing)? Not thick for a 20-year-old weapon.
And I myself do not mind shooting from Saigi (unless of course I fail to sum up the build quality, which sometimes simply infuriates me with domestic rifles).
