Announced the creation of a new air defense system family "Thor"

In August, at the international aerospace salon MAKS-2013, Tactical Missile Weapons Corporation presented its new development. At one of the stands of the corporation there was a mock-up of the rocket and a transport and launch container for it. On the rocket itself there was an RZV-MD index, on the container - 9М338К. The index indicated on the transport and launch container said that Tactical Missile Armament and Vympel GosMKB for the first time showed a new rocket for anti-aircraft missiles of the Tor family. At the exhibition booth was present information about the ammunition, confirming this assumption. However, there was no official information about the ownership of the RZV-MD missile complex “Thor”.

Only two and a half months later, official information appeared about the new anti-aircraft missile system, which will use the ammunition shown at the MAKS-2013 exhibition. A few days ago, S.Druzin, deputy general director of the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern on scientific and technical development, told RIA News about work on a new project. The Tor-М2 air defense system is a continuation of the well-known line of missile systems and is designed for air defense of troops on the march and in positions. A number of measures were taken as part of the new project, which made it possible to significantly increase the potential of the anti-aircraft complex. First of all, there is an increased range of destruction of targets, as well as twice as much ammunition compared to previous air defense systems of the “Th” family.

In late October, the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern conducted firing, which confirmed the characteristics of the new anti-aircraft missile system. According to S. Drugin, the results of these tests suggest the creation of a unique anti-aircraft complex for its class with tremendous characteristics. During the tests, the Tor-M2 complex showed a unique accuracy when firing at a range greater than the target. Thus, when shooting at five targets of the Saman type, three were destroyed by a direct hit by an anti-aircraft missile. The remaining conditional targets were hit by a stream of shrapnel.

In the near future, the possibility of changing the methods of combat work of the new air defense system may be considered. At present, the combat vehicle must make a short stop for a rocket launch, no more than 2-3 seconds. Recent tests have shown that in the future, the Tor-M2 complex is capable of launching an anti-aircraft missile on the move. Studies of such opportunities may begin soon.

Work on the Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile system with the 9М338К rocket continued for several years. The annual report of the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern for 2008 a year indicated the completion of state tests of the Tor-M2 air defense system with the 9М331 rocket, as well as comprehensive preliminary tests of this complex with the 9М338К rocket. In 2009, the concern continued to test new products, and in 2012, state tests of the 9K331М anti-aircraft complex with the 9М338К rocket were conducted. Thus, the available information about the timing of the tests and the latest information about the Tor-M2 complex allows us to speculate about its early adoption, as well as about the start of mass production of combat vehicles and missiles of the new model.

Currently available information about the upgraded anti-aircraft missile system and the new rocket provide an opportunity to present their overall appearance. The development of the complex itself was carried out by the Moscow Scientific Research Electromechanical Institute (NIEMI), which is part of the Almaz-Antey State Design Bureau named after A.A. Raspletin. The 9М338К rocket was developed by the Vympel GosMKB. Serial production of combat vehicles of the Tor-M2 complex is expected to be deployed at the Kupol Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant, and the Avitek enterprise (Kirov) will be engaged in assembling the missiles.

In terms of its size and weight, the 9М338К rocket is almost the same as the previous ammunition of the Tor family. An anti-aircraft missile of the new model is supplied in a transport-launch container (TLC) with a length of 2,94 meter and diameter of 0,24 m. The weight of the TPC with a rocket is 163 kilogram. The solid propellant provides the rocket with a flight speed of up to 1000 m / s. The maximum target destruction range is declared at the level of 16 km, the maximum height is 10 km. The 9М338К rocket uses a radio command guidance system.

Back in August, after the first display of the layout of the new rocket, there were suggestions about a serious change in its layout. The fact is that the demonstrated RZV-MD rocket, in contrast to previous ammunition for the Tor system, does not have any rudders or wings in the forward part of the hull. However, in the tail section there are four fixed wings and four turning steering wheels. There are also engines of declination, used at launch to rotate the rocket in the right direction. Thus, the 9М338К rocket is, at a minimum, a deep upgrade of existing products, if not a completely new development.

As follows from the available information, during the creation of a new anti-aircraft missile complex, a self-propelled launcher has undergone major changes. According to official data, the ammunition load of the Tor-M2 vehicle is doubled, i.e. combat vehicle simultaneously transports 16 missiles. Given the fact that the dimensions of the TPC missiles of the new model correspond to the size of the old containers, we can talk about changing the layout of the internal volumes of the combat vehicle. For ease of operation, the anti-aircraft missile complexes of the “Thor” family of TPK are assembled into packages, each of which contains four containers. Thus, the "Top-M2" is equipped with four packages, rather than two, as it was in the previous complexes of the family.

Available information on the project to create a new air defense missile system with a promising rocket 9М338К suggests that mass production of combat vehicles and ammunition may begin in the very near future. Nevertheless, there is no official information about the planned dates for the start of production and supply to the troops of new complexes and missiles.

If the supply will be, then no earlier than 16 years. For 20114, everything is already scheduled.

    official information

Yes, this is not a lot. there are only the words of Sergey Druzin, deputy head for scientific and technical development of the Almaz-Antey concern:
We are preparing their serial production. We are already manufacturing combat vehicles for the complex. This part has been worked out with us.

He noted that these complexes are in the state armament program until 2020.

as for novelty ... and created ...
In order for the Tor-M2 air defense system to fully solve the tasks of a promising short-range air defense system with the minimality of the cost-effectiveness functional, back in 1990-1991 A competition was held to develop an anti-aircraft missile for this complex. The competition - under the pressure of the GRAU - was won by the Vympel NGO. It proposed 9M338 missiles with a distant boundary of the affected area of 20 km, a vertical launch and a combined control method - tele-flight in flight and homing in the final section using an infrared passive homing head (IR seeker). At the same time, 16 missiles with a mass of about 110 kg and a warhead of more than 16 kg each, with a readiness for launch of 3 s and an average speed of flight to the far boundary of the affected area of at least 600 m / s, were supposed to be placed in the combat vehicle. The specified missiles were to be developed on the basis of an already created air-to-air missile and it was supposed to be created in short (three to four years) terms.

in general, it turns out like this: R&D, begun under the Soviet Union, is finally over. less than 25 years. another 5 years ... and, possibly, the complex will appear in service.

it seems to me that if SO were developing an atomic bomb in the Soviet Union, for example, then it would have guaranteed not to have appeared in 1949.

I am a little familiar with defense production and I can say that the main trouble in our defense industry is the destruction of the PRODUCTION CHAIN as such. The fact is that in Soviet times there was a so-called. pilot production, pilot production and batch production. Let me explain on my fingers: some research institute developed some kind of weapon model and on the basis of ITS PRODUCTION, that is, there were always small industrial complexes at the research institute, they made a prototype, brought it to mind, and if it was adopted, then it was transferred to experimental production enterprises where the sample of weapons was adjusted taking into account large-scale production, standardization and metrology, the capabilities and wishes of subcontractors, etc. were taken into account. A pilot batch was produced, a pre-production batch was tested, revised and, then, a completely prepared production process was transferred to batch production enterprises. Therefore, finished products could be assembled in large batches at several production sites. Based on the experience of application and operation in parts of the experimental production enterprise, the necessary changes and improvements were made. The research institutes, together with their experimental production, were exempted from further work on this weapon model and could already develop a new model. It was an extremely effective system that allowed for the rapid design, testing and production of a large number of weapons. Now this whole system is completely destroyed. We are left with scattered separate research institutes without their own pilot production (safely sold out in order to survive) or separate experimental production plants. Therefore, it is impossible to produce something in large volumes at these small and disparate enterprises. All these small enterprises, literally "files" manually release products in units per year, that is, this is just the kind of production that in Soviet times would be called "experimental" or "experimental". About any "large-scale" production, now, there can be no talk. All the train is gone.

Now, if only politically committed figures from the military-industrial complex would not put a spoke in the wheel of the supply of "Tora-M2" to the troops. And yet, maybe now the Navy will start modernizing its "Daggers".

In a very old book "My Memories" (not at hand), twice Lieutenant General (of the Russian Empire, and then the USSR), Academician Andrei Nikolaevich Krylov (based on the works and reflections of Admiral Stepan Osipovich Makarov and other Russian scientists, naval commanders and military leaders) , wrote at the beginning of the 20th century about the development of the Navy, the Theory of unsinkability, etc. But the principles underlying the armament, supply structure and operations of the Navy are still universal. Since there is no primary source at hand, I approximate it for the entire army (I think it's fair). Armament does not have to be the most super-duper and in huge quantities, but it must be balanced, and in sufficient quantity to inflict irreparable damage on the enemy, protect the Fatherland, and lead to further defeat of the enemy, and forcing him to stop all sorts of "dastardly" actions ... Something like this. Unfortunately, we are just starting to recover. It is very easy to learn to steal, "break the margin". It is very difficult to be decent, not everyone can withstand "Copper pipes" and "loot", according to my observations, 85 out of 100 breaks. Very many will be able to return to the "benefit for the Motherland" with difficulty, since the financial filter is extremely powerful. But still, despite the spells about optimization, I want to believe that the much-needed weapons will appear in our Armed Forces in sufficient quantities and without much delay.
    Sincerely.

I read this article and watched the video attached to it - "SAM TOP - M2". I was especially (unpleasantly) interested in the captions at the end of the video concerning the Pantsir system. I remembered the program "Polygon" about the same "Shell" (questions about the system arise) and a huge number of exceptionally positive mentions (possibly deserved), again about him, about "shell". All this resembles the situation on domestic TV, when long before the appearance of the next "long-awaited" series, from "director !!!," creator ... ", etc. (and later it turns out that the movie (show) is so-so or even d - mo), the viewer will clearly understand that the film is undoubtedly a masterpiece and he (the viewer) can only be stunned with delight, watch and, most often, make sure of the opposite.Country security is not a movie and biased advertising, it is inappropriate and criminal here, so the same as dishonest pushing their products in. But what is appropriate and necessary is healthy competition.
