NASA unveiled three conceptual designs of quiet, energy-efficient aircraft, which may take off no later than 2025.

Each option was proposed by one of three companies: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. All three received the right to develop and further test their own aircraft.

The concepts were presented after NASA announced a competition for the development of faster, more spacious and quieter "superplanes" that would consume less fuel compared to existing counterparts.

According to NASA requirements, the aircraft must reach speeds up to 85% of the speed of sound, fly a distance of 11 thousand km and take on the payload from 22 to 45 t, according to the Daily Mail.
