Russia will create a "breakthrough" ballistic missile
In mid-December 2009 of the year, then still acting commander of the Strategic Missile Forces Andrei Shvaichenko, announced that a new ballistic missile would be created by the end of 2016 of the year. What will be the new ICBM, Shvaychenko did not specify. According to Usenkov, the rocket created, as well as the “Voevoda”, will have a divided warhead with ten warheads of individual guidance. It will be able to overcome any missile defense system, be it the US missile defense or the NATO European missile defense.
"Voivode" is considered the heaviest and most effective intercontinental ballistic missiles in the world. The ICBM is capable of carrying ten warheads with a power of 550 kilotons each. The flight range of the Voivode is 11 thousand kilometers. The Р-36М2 was developed in 1970 in the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, and later the Dnepr launch vehicle was created based on it, since the START-1 agreement, which ended on December 5 2009, assumed the destruction of half of the Voevod arsenal .
It clarifies ITAR-TASS, a new START treaty, not yet ratified by the United States, does not prohibit the modernization and replacement of strategic offensive weapons, including the creation of new types of such weapons. After the new treaty enters into force, it will impose restrictions on the number of deployed and reserve carriers of strategic weapons, as well as on the number of nuclear warheads.
