The most powerful railgun (electromagnetic gun) in the world was created in the research laboratory of the US Navy in Dalgren.
In December, 2010 specialists conducted a successful test of the railgun, the shot power of which was the 33 megajoule. Tests will continue not only in special centers, but also on the water. It is expected that the final creation of such a gun, capable of replacing the usual artillery, will be completed no earlier than 2020.
As for the principle of operation of the railgun, it uses electromagnetic force to accelerate the electrically conducting projectile, which is initially part of the circuit. The current flowing through the rails excites the magnetic field in the rails and anchor. As a result, under the action of a force, the anchor is pushed out of the magnetic field of the rails, and the projectile accelerates.
