Computer program "Land Warrior" in the service in the armyAt the beginning of 90-s, almost all countries of the world began to introduce new computer technologies in the management of armies. The main goal of such introductions was to increase the combat effectiveness of the armed forces not only in terms of equipment, but also to enhance the role of an infantryman on the battlefield. With the use of computer technology in the infantry increased vitality, mobility and destructive power. The most famous program is the “Land Warrior”, which was first tested in 2000 in the American army. According to the developers, the main goal of the program should be high control over the situation and timely information about all changes on the battlefield, which will allow the infantryman to properly use the existing stop and make the right decisions.

The “Land Warrior” system includes the ability to display digital maps, images and other information through installed on weapons thermal imaging sights TWS. The set of combat equipment includes a video camera, a display, an M4 automatic rifle with a TWS sight. Additional features of the program, such as the ability to transmit not only voice messages, but also data transfer, a laser distance meter, and a computer compass, have become very useful in recognizing soldiers.

The introduction of computer technology systems allows you to fight in different weather conditions, and regardless of the direct visibility of the enemy, a soldier can perform a combat mission, having all the necessary information about the presence of the enemy and his weaponry. The battlefield is an example of a complex computer game in real time and with real characters. Unit commanders can monitor their subordinates and coordinate their movements and give instructions depending on the course of the battle.

Tests of the program showed a huge advantage of soldiers equipped with a “Land Warrior” over ordinary infantrymen. The results of fire training showed a high level of aimed shooting and a high percentage of hits on the target.

To date, the use of the program "Land Warrior" is suspended, this is due to the discovery of many shortcomings in the program. One of the main drawbacks was the low speed when updating the map and the overall slowness of the program. The use of a large amount of equipment led to an increase in the weight of infantry equipment and, accordingly, physical activity on the human body. Huge complaints also caused low service life of components and devices, especially the battery.

Given all the flaws, the “Land Warrior” was the impetus for the development of computer systems to increase the combat ability of the infantrymen, who are the main participants in the battle. Many companies are interested in the development and introduction of new technologies in the army. Improved combat systems based on new computer developments are being developed on a commercial basis. In particular Tablet PC should come to replace the heavy and not always practical details and devices “Land Warrior”, which were used in the initial version.
