The first steps have been taken: Typhon missile systems are settling in Southeast Asia
Medium-range missile system being loaded for delivery to the Philippines
Multi-domain gangs
The Americans announced the operational readiness of the Typhon Weapon System ground launcher at the end of the year before last. And already in the spring of 2024, new products were placed in the Philippines. This is the first appearance of medium-range missiles by our potential adversary in the Indo-Pacific region. So far, within the framework of the Salaknib-24 exercises, and not for long, but, as you know, there is nothing more permanent than temporary.
One launcher arrived in the northern Philippines, as they write in the American media,
A lone trailer with missiles arrived on the island of Northern Luzon, and the Americans are not even hiding the true reasons for the appearance of Typhon in the Philippines. Equipped with Tomahawk and Standard SM-6 missiles, they not only sweep through the entire Luzon Strait, but also reach the coast of China along with nearby military bases of the People's Republic. In a press release, the Americans write:
A definite greeting to China - the Americans are building another military alliance against the state. A Japanese “aircraft carrier” stands against Russia, and a Philippine bridgehead is being prepared against the Chinese army. And these are not idle speculations. Last fall, the Delta Battery missile unit, formed in Washington state, was literally “promised” to China as a deterrent in the region. A typical example of an arms race in which the United States is the escalator. The Delta Battery is planned to be deployed in the Indo-Pacific region. The exact location is not fully known, but after the exercises in the Philippines it is an open secret - the batteries will appear on the island of Northern Luzon by the end of the year.
The illustrations clearly explain the purposes for which multi-domain groups are deployed
The main danger in stories Typhon is carried not by the medium-range missile system itself, but by the company with which it is going to go to war. Judging by the determination of the Philippine authorities and the American attitude, a full-fledged US Army multi-domain task force, or MDTF, may appear in the archipelago in the near future. Each such group has the goal of direct confrontation with China and Russia - this is exactly what is spelled out in the doctrine of combat use. The main striking force of the MDTF is the HIMARS ("near arm"), Typhon Weapon System ("middle arm") missile systems and the Dark Eagle hypersonic complex ("long arm"). The latter has not yet been brought to fruition by the Americans, but this is clearly a matter of time, given the resources invested in the project. The hypersonic ammunition is capable of reaching Mach 15-17 and operating at ranges of more than 2800 km. These missile groups will initially be deployed in two critically important areas of the planet for the United States - Europe and the Indo-Pacific region. Of course, a multi-domain task force in Europe would directly threaten Russia. Some elements of this group were already spotted in September 2023 during exercises in Denmark. At least two Typhon mobile units took part in the maneuvers. The following operational groups are currently deployed around the world in varying degrees of readiness: the 1st MDTF in Washington, the 2nd MDTF in Germany (currently in a truncated composition), and the 3rd MDTF in Hawaii. In the near future, the 4th will appear in the Indo-Pacific region. There is a possibility of placing two multi-domain groups at once, one of which will nest, for example, on one of the Japanese islands. There are plans to control the Arctic region by another group, although there may not be enough money for this.
Typhon has already attended exercises in Denmark
It’s interesting how NATO explains the need to place purely offensive weapons near the borders of Russia and China. Aggressive plans are masked by the potential enemy’s presence of certain “no-access zones” into which enemy aircraft and cruise missiles cannot penetrate. Such arrangements do not allow American No. 1 to sleep peacefully. These same “no access zones,” if they exist at all, in no way pose a threat to the territory of the United States. And all other speculations are just casuistry of the White House.
Typhon must die
If HIMARS from multi-domain groups represents only a tactical threat, which the Russian Army has already encountered several times, then Typhon is a complex thing. And the appearance of the first container on wheels, albeit near the borders of southern China, should be considered as a direct threat to Russia. China will not react in any way to the buildup of weapons on its borders, and the Americans will move north, to our Far East. It is no coincidence that Russia and the United States have held each other back on the issue of intermediate-range missiles for decades. As soon as the Americans became confident that they had a “silver bullet” in their hands, they created a scandal, accusing Russia of violating the INF Treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty). The reason was the 9M729 cruise missile of the Iskander-M complex, which the United States fantasized had a range of 5,5 thousand kilometers or more. At the same time, missile defense installations were placed in Eastern Europe, into which Tomahawks can be easily and naturally charged. Just like now, Tomahawk and Standard SM-6 are installed in containers that are pulled by four-axle Oshkosh.
Each Typhon container holds up to 4 missiles
As a result, America withdraws from the treaty, but Russia unilaterally assumes the responsibility to adhere to obligations until special conditions are met. The Americans, on the contrary, began to develop their “silver bullet”, barely a year after leaving the INF Treaty.
So, a special occasion has arrived - for the first time in history, the Americans are deploying medium-range ground-based systems in Southeast Asia. These things have been sailing on ships across the seas and villages for a long time, but a ship is a relatively simple target, it’s not difficult to sink it. But finding Typhon in the forest thicket is much more difficult.
Several Typhon batteries are already in a state of operational readiness
Each Typhon battery, which, we recall, is part of a powerful strike connection with HIMARS and hypersonic missiles, consists of four trailers with missiles, a charging and reloading vehicle and combat support equipment. Each trailer stores four missiles, meaning the battery can theoretically fire up to 16 missiles at an enemy at a time. By the way, it is planned to build HIMARS complexes not simple ones, which we see in Ukraine, but with new PrSM missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometers. But let's return to the Typhon, whose design has its roots in the navy. Lead developer Lockheed Martin has adapted Mark 41 sea-based launch containers for a wheeled platform. In general, Typhon has a lot of unification - for example, the control center is built on the basis of the Aegis missile defense system. The US Army received the first operational-ready Typhon complex in December 2022, less than two years after the start of development. All this suggests that the idea and opportunity to violate the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty came long before 2019. As a result, the opposing side received at its disposal a mobile ground complex with missiles with a range from 480 to 2770 km, each of which can carry a nuclear warhead. And these products are getting closer to the Russian borders. We hope that the Kremlin has an idea of response steps in such a situation.
