Eurocopter continues flight tests of the helicopter demonstrator X3
Eurocopter continues flight tests of the X3 demonstrator as part of the H3 high-speed hybrid long-range hybrid helicopter (Hybrid Helicopter) program.

After the development program is completed, the vehicle will perform a vertical take-off and landing, and in cruise it will develop a cruising speed over 220 nodes (410 km / h).

The prototype X3 is equipped with two turboshaft engines that drive a five-blade main rotor, and two additional screws mounted on the wing flaps on the sides. This design allows X3 to develop high speed and hang in the air.

As planned, the device will be made in various versions, and perform a wide range of tasks, including conducting search and rescue operations at long range, border patrolling, support for the Coast Guard, etc. Due to its high cruising speed and ability to land in the absence of runways, the device can be used for special operations, incl. delivery and evacuation of reconnaissance groups, search and rescue operations in combat conditions, medical evacuation.

The first test flight of the demonstrator X3 took place on September 6 in the test center at the Istr airbase.

The first stage of testing is currently underway, which will last until the end of December. At this stage, the machine will be tested at low speeds with a gradual expansion of flight modes and an increase in speed to 180 nodes. After completing a three-month upgrade in March 2011, testing will continue to increase the cruising speed of the vehicle to 220 nodes.
