Who are the Russian soldiers fighting with? What did the US deliver to Ukraine?

I am very pleased that among the readers of VO there are more and more thinking people who are interested in knowing and understanding the underlying processes that fuel the war in Ukraine. On the other hand, it has become much more difficult for me to answer incoming reader questions. Many people have probably noticed that the format of materials has begun to increase.

Today we will talk about how the West, and specifically the United States of America, support Ukraine. What and how much has already been delivered? What they talk about in closed communities and so on.

We are accustomed to the fact that Washington traditionally allocates millions and billions of dollars in aid to Kyiv and somehow forgot that these billions do not leave the United States.

Just in this way, the Americans stimulate their own military production and carry out the rearmament of their own Armed Forces at the expense of Ukraine. A very far-sighted and competent formulation of the question. Merchants are always merchants. Make a profit even where it seems impossible.

US politicians have carried out educational work with Ukrainians so competently that even deliberate rubbish from America is perceived in Ukraine as a miracle.weapon. The trick with beads and mirrors, which was carried out by the invaders during the colonization of the American continent, is still taking place today! They changed the "beads and mirrors", but otherwise everything is according to the old scheme.

In fact, the vast majority of Americans do not care about what is happening in Ukraine. Most don't even know where such a country is located. So, no matter how the war ends, no matter what results the NWO brings, the citizens of the United States are neither warm nor cold from this. And their government and president too.

The main thing is that this massacre should continue until the moment when the old unnecessary weapons are disposed of at a good price. And there the ancient, long-known law of war will work - woe to the vanquished... and the winners are not judged!.. Everyone will quickly forget about the Kiev regime, and about Ukraine too. As has happened more than once in recent times stories.

Cluster bombs and shells for killing civilians

One of the latest “arrivals” from the United States is cluster munitions. Deliveries that caused consternation in much of the world. Weapons that have killed more civilians than military. Let me remind you that back in 2008, in accordance with an international treaty, cluster munitions were banned. The agreement was signed by 120 countries! But among the signatories there is neither the United States, nor Russia, nor Ukraine.

For some reason, it is generally accepted that cluster bombs and shells of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to be used only after July 2023. Alas, these weapons have been used almost from the very beginning of the events in the Donbass. Application data can be easily found on the Internet. Look at the footage of civilian injuries from 2014–2018.

Cluster bombs turn large areas into fields of death. Destroying in the air, such a bomb scatters from several dozen to several hundred small bombs, which, bursting, hit the enemy with fragments over vast areas. But the most important thing is that not all of these bombs explode!

They lie for many years, until someone disturbs them. Many probably remember videos of African children with no legs playing football. These are child victims of cluster bombs that were blown up after the war. The children just played and ... found these same bombs. Someone died, and someone, and these are the majority, became disabled.

I deliberately devoted so much space to seemingly generally known facts. Alas, even among our readers there are those who believe the crests’ statements that cluster munitions will be used to break through the defenses of Russian troops. That it is cluster shells and bombs that will help overcome our defense lines.

Troops that occupy well-equipped defensive positions suffer minimal losses when using cluster bombs. Such weapons were not originally intended for the destruction of engineering structures and enemy defense lines. This is a weapon against those who are in the open field. Against unprotected infantrymen!

Why Kyiv needed cluster bombs is clear. If you look at the map of military operations, even an amateur can see the answer. The Russian army is advancing in the area of Liman and Kupyansk. Moreover, the crests are being pressured so much that Kyiv has no choice but to throw more and more reserves there. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are advancing in the south. Also requires replenishment. But they are not there! Here's your answer. The cassettes, for the most part, will fly to the area of Liman and Kupyansk...

Will this ammunition be used in the south?

I think yes. The tactics of using such ammunition during the offensive is also known. Under certain conditions, cassettes can "drive" the infantry into cover and enable the attackers to get closer to the enemy's defensive lines.

In much the same way, you can use such bombs to “shoot into nowhere.” When intelligence does not give an exact answer to the question of where the enemy is. Then they hit the probable places where the enemy is congested. Along forest belts, along ravines, etc.

Well, technology. Unarmored vehicles can also be hit by cluster munitions.

So far, only one thing can be said. With the advent of cluster bombs, the activity of Ukrainian artillery increased sharply, almost almost twice. According to Western estimates, the daily consumption has increased from 3-5 thousand to 8 thousand shells. Ukrainian propaganda is talking about preparing a new offensive. It seems to me that this is agony, an attempt to stabilize the front line before the autumn thaw. Simply put, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have fought and require replenishment with manpower, equipment and weapons ...

But the cat scratches at its spine. Let me remind you of the words of President Vladimir Putin. By the way, a week ago, the first panic reports appeared in Western sources that Russia was using much more modern cassettes. True, according to the already established tradition, the facts of such use are not given:

"If they are used against us, we reserve the right to repel the action."

The army that the US armed

Cluster munitions are just a minor (I can imagine how the LBS fighters have now reacted to this word) episode of the long history of Western arms supplies to Ukraine. We are accustomed to talking about arms supplies to Ukraine... in billions of dollars.

Very convenient statistics. You are reading another report. “In the US, Congress approved another military aid in the amount of...dollars.” And after some time you read the Ministry of Defense summary for the past day. "Destroyed...tanks... artillery systems ... helicopters and ... aircraft." So how is it? Can you understand what part of the aid our soldiers converted into scrap metal?

Today I will reveal some numbers. It's not some secret data. It's not even our data. Here is an excerpt from a review by the US Congressional Research Service, which was published on August 25 of this year. The document is called "U.S. Assistance to Securing Ukraine." As it should be in any "shop", at the beginning of the report there are numbers and only then "goods".

“From 2014 to August 22, 2023, the United States provided more than $46 billion in security assistance, according to the US State Department, “to help Ukraine maintain its territorial integrity, protect its borders, and improve interoperability with NATO.”

"Security assistance packages for fiscal years 2022 and 2023 are primarily funded by additional appropriations of $48,7 billion."

“On August 10, 2023, the Administration submitted to Congress a request for nearly $24 billion in additional funding for FY 2024.”

To compare the numbers, without converting prices to modern and other economic calculations, Lend-Lease for the USSR cost the Americans 10,982 billion dollars at the prices that existed during the war.

More than 10 billion then for the USSR and more than 100 billion today for Ukraine.

Of course, the figures for military deliveries during the Great Patriotic War can be disputed, but that is not the point. The main thing is that these figures are comparable even taking into account inflation and other economic nuances. I mean, the USSR, more precisely, Russia, paid off its debt only in 2006! When Ukraine will be able to pay, only God knows. Americans do not forgive debt!

Now about the “product”.

The same document contains a list of what the Americans have delivered to Kyiv over the years. We are talking about 2014–2023.

“According to the Department of Defense, U.S. security assistance provided to Ukraine as of August 14, 2023 included the following:

38 highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS) and their ammunition;

12 National Advanced Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems (NASAMS);

1 Patriot air defense battery and other air defense systems;

31 Abrams tanks, 45 T-72B tanks and 186 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles;

300 M113 armored personnel carriers and 189 Stryker armored personnel carriers;

more than 2 Stinger anti-aircraft systems;

more than 10 Javelin anti-tank systems and more than 000 other anti-tank systems;

Phoenix Ghost Tactical, Switchblade Tactical and other UAVs;

198 155 mm and 72 105 mm howitzers and artillery pieces;

182 mortar complexes;

remote mine protection systems (RAAM);

more than 7 tube, optical tracking and wire-guided (TOW), high-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARM) and laser-guided missile systems;

more than 35 grenade launchers and small arms;

communications, radar and reconnaissance equipment;

training, maintenance and support.”

I think that now you will understand more clearly what the Russian Defense Ministry is saying in its messages.

Huge funds allocated by the Americans are spent on the purchase of expensive systems. Often at prices higher than world prices. Kyiv is practically driven into a corner. Either you buy at the prices we set, or there will be no help. And this automatically means defeat in the war! ..

If we add to the military assistance voiced by the Americans the support of other NATO countries, and this is from 50 to 100% of American supplies (alas, I did not find exact figures), it becomes clear that we are really fighting with a well-armed and equipped Western army.

I am not afraid to express the opinion that today it is one of the strongest armies in Europe. Not many can boast of such a set and quantity of weapons and equipment.

Will the Ukrainian army be strengthened?

Alas, “victory”, which always turns into “zrada”, forces the Americans to further increase the power of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This can only be done through more modern, more powerful, more lethal weapons.

Now many people are thinking about deliveries of aircraft to Ukraine. Kyiv sleeps and sees American planes at its airfields. And it does not matter at all whether they can conquer the sky or not. The fact of supply itself is important.

Moreover, they are also thinking about supplies to the USA. For the American military-industrial complex, such supplies are simply a bonanza. The more F-16s shot down, the more orders American industry will have. The logic is simple, worked out on other types of weapons.

But, in my opinion, something completely different is much more dangerous.

I mean the supply of ammunition with uranium filling. Whatever experts say about the safety of such ammunition, everyone understands perfectly well that their use means actual contamination of the area for many decades. This is a weapon against the future. Against those who have not even been born yet.

And then, what will prevent the West, after another “spite” with the effectiveness of these shells, from not starting to supply tactical nuclear weapons?

We already know how this can be done. The weapons will arrive in Ukraine, and then discussions about such deliveries will begin in NATO. The air will be shaken until it is used ... As it was with rockets, cluster bombs and so on.

Alas, but I am more and more inclined to think that tactical nuclear weapons are the next stage of the war. Hope for the common sense of Ukrainian and Western politicians is fading every day. It seems that the classic principle is working - "so don't get you to anyone." The transformation of the territory into the state of the Wild Field...

The most important features

I repeated many times the already rather “shabby” phrase that we are at war with the West. Ukraine is just a territory and a supplier of “meat for the meat grinder.” Everyone understands perfectly well that the “great Ukrainian dream” about the victory over Russia is just a chimera.

Recently I read an interesting phrase from one of the Ukrainians - the United States and Russia are destroying Europe on Ukrainian territory with Ukrainian hands. With a slight stretch, I agree with this opinion.

Indeed, due to the change in China's status, the United States is no longer interested in Europeans. Washington believes that the emphasis of foreign policy needs to be shifted to Asia. Now the main enemy is not Russia, but China.

Europe should become approximately the same as Russia was after the collapse of the USSR. Large vacuum cleaner for American goods.

Hence the attitude to European industry, to the European economy as a whole. And to the European army too.

Europe today must repeat the fate of the natives in the occupied territories. “Rejoice in what they give” - this is the basic principle of life for the new Europe.

And what about Russia?

Alas, we will still have to fight for our independence. Ukraine is unlikely to be limited ...

    10 billion for the USSR, and 100 billion for Ukraine. In those days, the number of billionaires did not exceed the number of fingers on one hand. Now there are hundreds of them. Deliveries to Ukraine only with weapons in their pure form. The USSR supplied machine tools and equipment. This is how our country won. But otherwise I agree with the author.

    Everyone repeats the mantra "military-industrial complex super-profit" over and over again, but the United States has long had a working scheme with cutting trillions of dollars - this is the fleet, although of course at one time they drank so notably on the F-35, and how many programs there were "future technologies "who gave nothing, but took a lot of money ... "Buying" Ukraine, which has nothing, rather a black hole. It is in Syria that the Americans have become addicted to oil and it is profitable. And in Ukraine, these are taxpayers' funds, additional fees, redistribution of funds from other regions. As a result, working schemes will receive less funding for a long time, moreover, such treatment of one's own country will reduce the overall pool of funds over time. In short, there is absolutely no smell of profit here, only individual companies in the military-industrial complex, and then to the detriment of other companies in the military-industrial complex and everyone else, again some kind of bank will burst. And the same Afghanistan, where the Americans abandoned a lot of everything ... Also, probably, "surplus profit". All this is rather the USSR, which at times squandered funds thoughtlessly.

    I can be understood in such a way that due to the help of the USA, the USSR won the war. The USSR was able to use all the resources of industrialization, and translate a lot into a military way. But Lend-Lease help didn’t stop us either.

      We must remember that Lend-Lease in the USSR is not only 5% of the USSR’s GDP, but also the supply of critical components that were not produced in the USSR or were produced little of them. For example, under Lend-Lease, explosives and their initial components were supplied to the USSR, so much so that every fourth shell was filled with American explosives. The USSR physically could not produce toluene in the required quantities due to the loss of Donbass and, first of all, due to the improper development of the chemical industry. So the Lend-Lease assistance was very significant.

        Consumption of high-octane aviation gasoline during the Second World War was 2998 thousand tons. 720 thousand tons were supplied directly under Lend-Lease. Another 1117 thousand tons were obtained by mixing domestic low-octane gasoline with imported high-octane gasoline. The remaining 1161 thousand tons were produced by Baku factories ... using Lend-Lease tetraethyl lead (6300 tons), which was not produced in the USSR at all. Thus, if we remove Lend-Lease, then the Red Army Air Force is sitting on a starvation ration of B-70, i.e. they fly at most a third of reality, and on machines at the level of the mid-30s.

    So the Americans provide military assistance or give loans to Ukraine? In my opinion, these are two big differences, as they say in Odessa. Suppose the USSR, supplying weapons to Republican Spain or Vietnam, hardly hoped for a refund. And does it really matter how they pay? They think that Russia will eventually pay for everything, or rather the Russian taxable population.

    Alas, we will still have to fight for our independence.
    When a country has its own developed machine tool industry, mechanical engineering, aviation industry, automotive industry and much more and does not depend on numerous “gray imports” this is one thing, but if independence is determined by the presence of sausage with the addition of meat and toilet paper in stores, as well as the presence of a large amount foreign cars in yards, that's different. The first one is very difficult, but the second one is full. Shall we fight for something that is practically non-existent or for the second one?

    The author does not understand Lend-Lease at all. According to the law, only equipment and supplies that were not wasted or lost, and were not returned to the United States, were subject to payment. Those. In any case, there was no need to pay for the burnt tanks and the eaten carcass, but the Liberty ships either had to be returned or paid for at the residual value, and even with a 50% discount. Stalin then refused to return the ships and pay the money. Only the Russian Federation began paying payments, and payments continued until 2006. So now no one is forcing Kyiv to buy expensive American weapons, because now they are not buying them, but are leasing them for free with the option of purchasing them. And if after the Northern Military District Kyiv needs American Abrams tanks, then it will be able to buy them at the residual price and perhaps even at a discount.

    As for the supply of 155mm cluster shells, this is not the evil plans of the imperialists, not a conspiracy of Masonic-Zionists, and no reptilians have anything to do with it. It’s just that the stock of shells in NATO arsenals has shown the bottom. And then we remembered that there is many tone cassette They seemed to be preparing for disposal, because even though America did not sign the treaty banning them, it is not comme il faut to have them in service, much less to use them. But it’s quite comme il faut to throw them off, they use this, but what to take from them? And if the response arrives with cassettes, it will fly over them, and they are, by and large, meat; If Vlada considers them meat, then why should we care? And you don’t have to spend money on recycling. So it’s all economics and logistics, and not a conspiracy at all.

    In fact, the average annual amount of American aid to the USSR through lend-lease relative to US GDP was 8 times more than the amount of aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

    The share of military and financial assistance in US GDP
    1. Lend-lease - $ 11 billion: 5.4% of GDP for 3,5 years, 1,5% of GDP per year ($ 1943 billion was adopted for annual GDP in 203)
    2. Assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine - $ 70 billion: 0.27% of GDP for 1,5 years, 0.18% of GDP per year
    (for annual GDP, the US GDP in 2022 is 25.46 trillion $)

    The United States can easily increase the volume of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine by 3 times - Ukraine costs the United States several times cheaper than the Afghan and Iraqi wars that have been going on for 20 years.

    P.S. And the USSR did not pay for Lend-Lease, how much this myth can be repeated. The supplied raw materials and military equipment were subject to payment, which were not lost in battle and the USSR decided to keep it after the war.
    For lend-lease, the USSR paid $48 million in 1973 and Russia $674 million in 1993-2006.
    Taking into account inflation, this is about 1% of the amount of supplies, 99% was paid by the US budget.

Sometimes the United States pays for equipment from another country, but there is no such data either. We are probably talking about the joint delivery of 90 tanks from the United States and the Netherlands to Ukraine, which are being modernized in the Czech Republic. Perhaps some of these tanks are former Belarusian T-72b sold to Morocco, and then requisitioned by the Czechs for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

There is evidence that Morocco sent 100 (according to other sources 150) tanks to the Czech Republic for modernization, half were returned to them (if the figure 150 is correct), but from 94 of the remaining 20 were transferred to Ukraine. The fate of the remaining 74 units is not yet clear. I wonder how the Moroccans swallowed this pill?
