"Army-2023": Russia demonstrates success in the creation of UAVs

Realizing the indispensability of UAVs in modern armed conflicts, many countries have entered, so to speak, into the “unmanned arms race”. In this case, Russia was no exception.

At the recent Army 2023 forum, domestic drones, some of which are already in mass production.

In particular, JSC "Kronstadt" acquainted the visitors of the event with its device "Orion-E". This is a reconnaissance and strike drone of a large aircraft type, which can conduct optical-electronic and radar reconnaissance, as well as defeat ground targets, including guided bombs manufactured by JSC Kronstadt.

In turn, the "daughter" of the above-mentioned enterprise JSC "KT-Unmanned Systems" presented an ultraviolet direction finder, which is installed on drones and has two channels - visible and ultraviolet. The final image is generated by the built-in software. The development can be used for both military and civilian purposes.

ZALA AERO GROUP (part of the Kalashnikov concern) exhibited Drones, which no longer require a separate presentation. Kamikaze drones "Lancet" and "Cube-UAV" are actively and extremely effectively used in the NVO zone, as evidenced by numerous shots of destruction of enemy equipment published by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Enix JSC presented the Eleron T7 reconnaissance drone - the latest version of the drone of the same name, which received an improved automatic control system, as well as a new radio channel. Communication with the UAV is maintained through an over-the-horizon control station. The device, according to the chief designer, cannot be knocked off the route by jamming.

Do not forget about one of the most common drones in the Russian Armed Forces, Orlan-10, as well as its more functional version, Orlan-30. This reconnaissance complex is capable of broadcasting target designation for combat vehicles: self-propelled guns, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and air defense systems, which is now actively used by the Russian military in the NVO zone.

There are also helicopter-type UAVs in Russia. In particular, the development of the Shvabe concern called 400-T. This is a quadcopter with a thermal imaging channel and the ability to use it in FPV mode. This drone uses communication channels that provide noise-resistant operation within a radius of 5 km. The drone is able to work effectively in all weather conditions and stay in the air for about 50 minutes.

At the same time, not only domestic-made attack and reconnaissance drones were presented at the Army-2023 exhibition. For example, JSC Obukhov Plant presented its training drones. According to the representative of the enterprise, a lot of equipment is lost as a result of inept and incorrect use. Therefore, training competent specialists today is an extremely important task.

Finally, it is worth noting that domestic UAV manufacturers at the moment cannot completely abandon foreign components. Meanwhile, most of the latter are currently purchased in friendly countries. In addition, the share of imported components in the product is becoming smaller due to completely Russian developments, including electric motors, matrices and other systems.

Question IS THIS PROJECT ACTIVE OR DEAD. The Ministry of Defense will adopt unmanned high-altitude aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the “Owl” type. The giant gliders are expected to replace expensive low-orbit surveillance and communications satellites. Fueled by solar energy and using air currents, they will constantly patrol remote areas of the World Ocean and the Arctic. Their task is to conduct reconnaissance, as well as transmit control signals and communicate with ships and military installations located above the Arctic Circle

what successes? Where are they? We should have demonstrated these successes 30 years ago. Even under Defense Minister Ivanov. But it turns out that we only now “realized” and our volunteers began purchasing Chinese drones for the Northern Military District. And many enterprising businessmen have learned to assemble UAVs from Chinese components, put Russian nameplates on them and sell the aircraft at exorbitant prices. Import substitution in action, so to speak. But our Orions-e, Altius and notorious hunters are somehow not visible in the Northeast Military District. Only at parades and exhibitions. Some old eagles and forts are illuminated. Yes, lancets, with Iranian geraniums and Chinese quadcopters.

Demonstration of success and success itself are not always the same thing. I would like there to be successes too.

the orions performed well in their time, which is probably why someone very “smart” killed the series
