In the interests of the artillery of the ground forces, a promising 152-mm self-propelled artillery mount 2S35 "Coalition-SV" was developed. Over the past few years, this product has been tested, and such activities are nearing completion. In addition, it became known about the launch of the production of self-propelled guns of this type, as well as the transport and loading machines intended for them.

At the test stage

Recall that the project of self-propelled guns "Coalition-SV" was developed from the middle of the XNUMXs. The lead developer was the Nizhny Novgorod Central Research Institute "Petrel" from the NPK "Uralvagonzavod" of the state corporation "Rostec". At the beginning of the tenth years, the appearance of the future self-propelled gun was formed, the design was completed and the construction of experimental equipment began.

According to known data, the first 2S35 prototypes were built in 2013-14. and at the same time they went to the test on May 9, 2015, this technique was first shown to the public. Over the next years, the Coalition-SV prototypes worked at the test site, confirming the design characteristics and demonstrating new capabilities. Due to the complexity of the project and the tasks set, the tests are still ongoing.

The self-propelled guns "Coalition-SV" have already shown their main capabilities, and also demonstrated superiority over existing artillery systems. So, in 2019, the self-propelled gun fired at a distance of 80 km - at the moment this is a record for domestic 152-mm guns. At the same time, it was reported that the "flurry of fire" mode was being worked out, which made it possible to increase the fire impact on the enemy and reduce the risks for self-propelled guns.

The assembly of the Coalition-SV was entrusted to the Uraltransmash enterprise (Yekaterinburg). At the end of 2019, it announced the completion of the construction of an experimental batch, which was soon going to be sent to the troops. In addition, the preparation of a full-fledged serial production has started.

Based on the results of these events, in August 2021, at the Army-2021 forum, the Ministry of Defense issued an order to Uraltransmash for the mass production of new self-propelled guns. The quantity and cost of equipment were not specified at that time. It is curious that by the time the first serial contract appeared, self-propelled guns were still at the testing stage.

Actual plans

Recently, the current state of affairs in the Coalition-SV project and the developers' plans for the near future became known. August 10 RIA News published an interview with the Deputy General Director of Rostec Vladimir Artyakov. The topic of conversation was current projects and the exposition of the state corporation at the future Army-2023 forum.

V. Artyakov said that tests of the 2S35 product are ongoing, and they are planned to be completed by the end of the year. At the same time, serial production has already been mastered. Both self-propelled guns and transport-loading vehicles for them are being built. The volumes and rates of such construction, for obvious reasons, are not named.

From such a statement it follows that the new self-propelled guns will enter service with the ground forces in the near future. At the same time, a contract for mass production of equipment is already in place and is being implemented. This means that the rearmament of combat units will also be able to begin in the foreseeable future.

New solutions

Within the framework of the Coalition-SV project, an ACS of a traditional appearance was developed, designed to solve a well-known range of fire missions. At the same time, the 2S35 design uses a number of new components and solutions, due to which a significant increase in tactical, technical and combat characteristics is ensured. The resulting self-propelled gun has important advantages over modern models of its class.

SAU 2S35 is an armored combat vehicle on a tracked chassis with a turret carrying weapons. The modified chassis is used as the basis for the "Coalition-SV" tank T-90, which gives the necessary characteristics of mobility and patency.

For self-propelled guns, an original tower with an uninhabited fighting compartment was developed. Inside it are a gun mount, mechanized stowage of ammunition, automatic loading and remotely controlled guidance drives. Outside the tower there is a combat module with a machine gun for self-defense and smoke grenade launchers.

The 2S35 product is equipped with a 152 mm 2A88 rifled howitzer. This gun has a barrel length of 52 klb with a developed muzzle brake and ejector; shutter type unknown. For the first time in the domestic ground artillery, a separate loading principle with a modular propellant charge is used. Such a charge consists of several cartridge modules, the number of which may vary depending on the required energy of the shot. The supply of shells and modules into the chamber is carried out automatically. The shot is made due to the original system of microwave charge initiation.

Carried ammunition - 70 shots. "Coalition-SV" can use all domestic projectiles of 152 mm caliber, including guided ones. At the same time, an increase in the firing range was ensured in comparison with other self-propelled guns, and the accuracy of hits was also improved.

"Coalition-SV" is equipped with a modern digital fire control system with the necessary components and functions. Topographic location and calculation of data for firing are provided, several modes of firing are provided. It is assumed that there is a radar on board the self-propelled guns that tracks the trajectory of the projectile and helps to correct the fire.

The crew of the self-propelled guns consists of three people - commander, driver and gunner. All of them are placed in a common compartment inside the case. The systems and mechanisms of the fighting compartment are controlled remotely.

Together with the 2S35 self-propelled gun, the unit will receive the 2F66-1 transport and loading vehicle, made on the KamAZ serial chassis. The TZM van houses mechanized stowage, as well as means for moving projectiles and charge modules. With the help of a retractable conveyor, the TZM transfers the components of the shots to the self-propelled gun. The 2F66-1 machine can work with different ammunition in caliber from 120 to 152 mm. In the latter case, she carries 92 shots.

Future opportunities

The promising self-propelled guns 2S35 "Coalition-SV" in its design differs significantly from existing domestic 152-mm systems. Due to such differences, a significant increase in combat and other characteristics is provided, as well as the potential for further development is created.

The growth of combat performance is ensured, first of all, by the new 2A88 gun and its ammunition. This product is characterized by an increased barrel length, which allows more efficient use of the energy of the propellant charge. In this case, the gun during firing is fully serviced by automation.

A real technological breakthrough is the use of a modular propellant charge. Variable charges are well mastered in our artillery, however, a modern system of modules allows you to optimize loading processes and provides other advantages. Thanks to this, the tool becomes a more flexible tool for solving all the intended tasks. Also of interest is a microwave charge initiation system. It provides simultaneous ignition throughout the entire volume of the module, which makes it possible to optimize combustion and increase energy parameters.

On one of the forums "Army". Photo "Rostec"

The new SLA for the "Coalition-SV" solves all the tasks of preparing for firing, adjusting fire, etc. In addition, it has improved capabilities for interaction with other ACS and control structures. In fact, ACS 2S35 is adapted to work in network-centric circuits with the corresponding capabilities and advantages.

With all this, the project has the potential for further development. In particular, the possibility of transferring the 2S35 fighting compartment to another chassis has already been shown. A self-propelled gun variant was tested on a KamAZ vehicle. The possibility of using the Armata tracked platform in the future is also mentioned. Another area of development could be the creation of new shells.

On the eve of rearmament

Thus, the new product 2S35 "Coalition-SV" compares favorably with the 152-mm self-propelled artillery systems available in our army and therefore is of great interest. In all the main parameters, the 2S35 is superior to the available 2S3 Gvozdika and 2S19 Msta-S vehicles, which have guns of the same caliber. Interest in a new model two years ago led to the emergence of a contract for mass production.

According to the latest news, the tests of the "Coalition-SV" are already being completed. In addition, the industry has established mass production of such equipment. All this suggests that the wait is coming to an end - in the near future the new self-propelled guns will enter service and complement the existing self-propelled guns.

As I understand it, they were not in a hurry to launch it into the series. No one imagined such a trench war with the West, and priority was given to missiles for various purposes. And then life forces to correct the former slowness. But in any case, it’s hard for me to understand such terms from development to delivery to service, almost 20 years ... I convince myself that the project was simply frozen as unnecessary for 10-15 years and languidly smoldered at the developer, without financial support from the Moscow Region.

And you won’t understand if you don’t plunge into the kitchen of the military-industrial complex at least a little. HUNDREDS of enterprises are working on such products, and all issues need to be agreed upon, each device needs to be taken a hundred times from Novosibirsk to Rostov, and others from Barnaul to Kaliningrad in order to "marry", after, if everything is almost not bad, the raw block must be taken to the Urals in order to try on the chassis (on which a dozen more enterprises are working according to the same scheme). And then, unexpectedly, SANCTIONS! .. And everything from the beginning ... We are looking for new suppliers, we are waiting, we are designing, we are inserting something that doesn’t fit, we are waiting for funding ... You are holy simplicitywinked

Prapor-527 (Dmitry), many thanks for the explanations to the "teapot". Of course, I am very far from the kitchen of the military-industrial complex, although I read in the media about all the difficulties that you painted. And yet, 20 years for the development of the "Coalition of the SV" falls out of all conceivable terms. Agree, otherwise all other products would have entered service in 20 years. I wanted to understand the specific reasons for such a delay with the SV Coalition, what did they get stuck on during production? And about the general list of all sorts of graters with contractors, any developer tells us, everything is well known.
We also know everything about "SANCTIONS and everything from the beginning" using the example of the "Superjet" and partly the MS-21 - that they had to replace imports in them. So I would like to know if you had to do the same in the "Coalition SV" and what exactly?
They said about the "Coalition SV" that there is a special "microwave" ignition system for the starting cartridge for its special shells. We slammed this system from someone or is it our know-how?
But in any case, thank you and a plus from me. smile

Aron Zaavi (Aron), this is where I want to understand how such a complex and expensive gun is, more necessary and more effective than the Tornado with homing heads. I think if they do, then they need it. But how many Coalition-SV shells will be required to guarantee a hit on the target, and wouldn't a Tornado missile with a multiply increased explosive charge cover this target faster? I understand that a projectile cannot be shot down, but a rocket can, as we shoot down the Hymars, but it seems more harm from them than "three axes"
        1. +3
          15 August 2023 21: 50
A coalition of bushes will most likely aim faster and fire a burst in a minute, and tornado-s are usually hidden and fired when the target is detected, since they are large and clumsy and can be spotted from the satellite. I suspect that the 9M544 rocket also flies slower than the projectile. And they make rockets probably slower than shells, like the coalition only requires new powder charges, and ordinary shells are suitable. In general, the correct answer is what to buy - both, and more, and more!

It makes sense to shoot at long distances only with an adjustable projectile (Excalibur / Krasnopol-d), apparently they were not allowed into the series until such a projectile was developed. But such shells can be deflected by disrupting the operation of GPS / GLONASS ... And such systems are used, if not at the forefront, then to protect the rear for sure.
So yes, a tornado will most often not be worse (a more powerful warhead can damage an object even without an exact hit), in fact, this is why the USSR relied on them.
Artillery can be more profitable when using tactical nuclear weapons - accuracy is not so important there, and shooting down a projectile is more difficult.
Another question is in submission, Tornado-S is a technique of missile brigades. It is clear that at the beginning the coalition will go to artillery brigades and there is no fundamental difference, but maybe over time they will be put in artillery battalions of motorized rifle / tank brigades and divisions, but here the effect is already on the face, within one half-division / formation it is always easier to establish interaction and efficiency in decision-making, since there is no need to go to the level of senior command ... Because, in order to request the support of a missile brigade, the commander of a motorized rifle / tank brigade / division needs to contact the corps / army commander to give the appropriate order, and if there are several requests, then the command will decide their priority, and the brigade commander / divisional commander can set the task himself for his units.

        Major Thunder.

I will add a little more about the "Coalition-SV", which the project team wrote about today.
I personally observed this rare toy last summer in the Lisichansk region (LHP) - almost immediately after its release. Moreover, this self-propelled gun was not alone, it was accompanied by as many as two companions.
I managed to say a few words with the crews of the "Coalitions" - and found out that at that time this battery was not only rare, it was the ONLY one that was available throughout the eastern direction. Another such battery toured in the south, in the Sea of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbAzov.
Of course, the crews were extremely exhausted - their battery worked like a fire brigade, it was constantly transferred from place to place, and they never stayed anywhere for more than a couple of days. Having worked in one area, they immediately loaded onto conveyors and rushed to another. From there - to the third. And so on, on, on.

At the same time, an increase in the firing range was ensured in comparison with other self-propelled guns, and the accuracy of hits was also improved.

a question for specialists and connoisseurs - if the "coalition" goes to the troops, the firing range will be much greater than that of our existing howitzers (revenge, carnation) and will be compared with the new Okrainian, Polish and French similar equipment (crabs, Caesars, etc.) ? and another question - how do we automate aiming (i.e. how long does it take to aim at a target after receiving coordinates) - a very important aspect of counter-battery combat!

The TTX Coalition has a greater firing range than the Pz2000. The question is, how much and quickly can "her" ammunition, both shells and charges, do for her? The industry has never made modular charges at all, it's not quite and not just a "cap".

Well, ARS shells will probably be rare, but the Coalition can fire shells from vengeance and acacia, there are no problems with this at all. It’s another matter that shooting them at 20 km makes sense only if you need to nightmare peaceful cities ... To get somewhere you need Krasnopol-d (revenge they will also be able to work simply not at 50, but at 70-30 km), but the charges yes, it’s not clear with them ... That is, they are produced, but one thing is mass production and the RAV warehouses are crammed with them in peacetime for conventional artillery, and it’s a completely different matter to supply directly from factories, it’s unlikely that uninterrupted ones will be able to organize immediately for a large amount of artillery, rather everything is not there, and most likely it is precisely for this reason that the issue of coalitions is not being forced, it is necessary to accumulate Krasnopol-d in warehouses, accumulate charges for howitzers, prepare calculations for guns and repair units, and only then they will slowly form art units and equip them with such equipment.

      That's right!
Yes, and 2a88 guns can be used not only for the Coalition, but also for the modernization of Msta and Malvia, etc.
But... One should not rely only on the Coalition in the KBB.
It is necessary to develop Lancets, Orlans and the like, aviation weapons, enemy artillery, they should mainly destroy them and, very importantly, guided munitions for cannon and rocket artillery. Shooting at long ranges at point targets without guided (corrected) projectiles is not effective.
And we need not only expensive and highly accurate shells such as escalibur
Let an ordinary O / F projectile, supplemented by a cheap GPS correction unit, have a CEP of 15-20 m, and not 2-3. This will be sufficient in very many cases for the 152 mm caliber, and even more so for the 203 mm.

Well, Pat can replace acacias, but he will not replace revenge...
On the other hand, why this Pat is needed, it is most likely easier to modernize acacias.
Just do not say that this cannot be done ... Acacia and Paladin are actually the same age, and at the time of adoption, acacia was better in everything - more precisely, long-range, faster-firing. Only now the palladins then went through many deep modernizations, and the acacia was seriously modernized 1 time, and then they decided to create Mstu ...
So there are a lot of things to modernize there...
At the expense of short howitzers, we seem to be focusing on 120 mm in the face of lotuses, Phloxes, and I hope our hands will reach Ven and Khost ...
In general, if the troops are saturated with them, they will cover the needs for close-range artillery.
Acacias and revenges will remain, coalitions will most likely begin to replace first of all hyacinths and possibly peonies / malki ...

The main problem of the "Coalition" is that it cannot fire charges from MSTA/Acacia. The author would have googled that it has a completely different process of igniting the charge. It can use shells from the previous 152-mm ones, but it needs “our own” propellant charges for it. Well, and accordingly - other shooting tables.

The author would have googled that it has a completely different process of igniting the charge.
Dmitry Ivanov_8, perhaps you did not read the article carefully. The author points to this feature of "microwave" ignition in a modular charge for the correct, efficient combustion of "gunpowder". It turns out not just a "piston" in the sleeve, but a whole microwave in the shutter of the gun.
I have never been an artilleryman, but this reminded me of the principle of combustion of solid rocket fuel in the Trident and our Bulava. After all, the bodies of these missiles for nuclear submarines are made of aluminum, with a wall thickness of no more than 5 mm. And it is necessary to achieve exceptionally uniform fuel burnout during rocket acceleration, from the center of the cylinder along its entire height to the walls of the body. If combustion goes faster in any direction, the rocket body will burn out and it will fall. That is why for so long we could not make rockets for nuclear submarines on solid fuel.

Nowhere did I find information why there are no such self-propelled guns with an "open" cabin. On tracked and wheeled chassis? According to the type of self-propelled guns Hyacinth and self-propelled guns Caesar ?! Self-propelled guns like Caesar were created in order to shoot at natives with Kalash and slippers as part of the reserve units. Due to their mobility, they can quickly increase the number of trunks in a certain section of the LBS. But this is written with a pitchfork on the water. In a modern conflict, you still need to get to a new position, which fully armored self-propelled guns successfully cope with. And range will not save here. For every tricky nut there is a threaded bolt.
However, we have such self-propelled guns - 2S43 "Malva". It will be more accurate. Maybe. wassat

Great news, the renewal of samples of domestic artillery cannot but rejoice. But until then, the resource of previous models of self-propelled guns, such as "Acacia", "Carnation", "Msta-B" (C), has not been developed, the appearance of a sufficient number of "Coalition-SV" should not be expected, especially in the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbSVO, except perhaps only trial operation in the troops of piece copies in order not to disclose the true performance characteristics to the enemy, not to mention trophies during the actions of the DRG (any DRG) recourse

Microwave ignition charges are a wonderful thing. Now we need to work out the use of this system on the internal combustion engine, for peaceful purposes.

I understand correctly that the coalition will go to art brigades and art regiments, acacias and revenge will remain in motorized rifle and tank?

Acacias will be replaced by the serial MSTA-S. The coalition is likely to replace Hyacinth and Peony.

As I understand it, yes, the coalition will change hyacinths in art brigades and regiments of art divisions.
I hope that at the beginning they will begin to change the D-20 and hyacinth-b or form new art parts in general for new equipment ...
Because hyacinth-s can still serve faithfully. On the contrary, they would be removed from storage and returned to service, since there are a lot of them in storage, due to cannibalism, several hundred pieces can be quickly put into operation ...

Dear author, do you know what a military secret is? It remains for you to lay out the drawings, you are taking advantage of the fact that the federal security service is weak, which allows such articles! Have pity on our guys who are fighting there against Banderevtsy!

Variable charge and modular charge are two different things. Modular loading has long been used in foreign howitzers and will be used for the first time in the Coalition. And they said that until recently the problem was precisely in it. We have all howitzers with cartridge case loading.

Modular charge allows you to make it variable. The case charge, it is already assembled at the factory, is different, long-range, reinforced, reduced to varying degrees. And this stuff has to be carried in a self-propelled gun in a set, some of which may not be needed based on the tasks and the required range.
Yes, and I’ll tell you the sleeves are not easy and not small. And not cheap.

I would be wary of the next tale of the former foreman-builder V. Artyakov. The doer has repeatedly promised to promise. For a year and a half, the SVO has been going on, the absence of the “Coalition of the SV” at the front turned out to be a giant hole, which, if you look at it, we simply have nothing to close. As a result, according to both our and foreign experts, we are still losing the counter-battery fight against the Ukrainian military, equipped with NATO-style artillery, with a range of more than 40 km, almost “in one gate”, because. our 152A2 Giacint-B and Msta-S/SM 36-mm howitzers fire at a maximum range of 33,5 km. Thus, a kind of "safety zone" of very impressive depth appears for the enemy artillery. Designed in 2002, the Coalition SV complex is already noticeably outdated, and has not appeared on the front lines. The tower was designed according to the technologies of the 20th century, so its weight turned out to be limiting. Chassis taken from the T-90 with a 125 mm gun, modified for an ambulance. for the parade, hand. There are disadvantages. What Rostec thought for 20 years can only be said in Latin. Such nepotism will definitely not lead to good. And, as you can see, the same ones harm - cosmopolitans!

Aren't we too clever with this Coalition?!

Maybe it would be more effective to modernize the Msta by increasing the barrel length to 52 calibers or more. This would make it possible to compare the range with the best NATO and Katai models and quickly launch this self-propelled gun into series.

And now we have howitzers in the army that are inferior in range and the best self-propelled gun in the world, but only in parades and exhibitions. How such a complex system will work in a combat situation is not at all clear.

Everything is wonderful... Except for one thing - "tests continue..." Question! Who is responsible for 10 years of testing...? Maybe he himself should... be tested?

Somewhere here they wrote that domestic 152-mm shells from previous guns are not suitable for the new gun of this self-propelled gun. And about 15 years ago they talked about a double-barreled shotgun to increase the rate of fire, not destiny, apparently, but a pity.
