Self-propelled howitzer T5-52 - 155mm howitzer on a Tatra T815 truck

11
The self-propelled howitzer Т5-52 was developed by Denel Land. It is similar to the French Caesar self-propelled howitzer caliber 155mm. The first prototype of the new howitzer was ready in 2002 year. The T5-52 was specifically designed for the potential needs of the Indian army. As a result, the howitzer was fully developed and tested, but until recently the interest of the Indian military in the new howitzer was not noticeable. At DefExpo 2012, the Tata group introduced this self-propelled howitzer as the “155mm Howitzer / Mounted Gun System” to meet the needs of the Indian army.

Self-propelled howitzer T5-52 - 155mm howitzer on a Tatra T815 truck

The self-propelled howitzer T5-52 can be used to perform assigned combat missions as an artillery gun, a howitzer or a mortar. The howitzer uses 155 / 52 ballistic caliber shells. The ammunition used provides howitzer increased target effective and expanded range of use in comparison with similar systems. Т5-52 - this is the second modification of the self-propelled howitzer, the first modification, also received the 155mm howitzer, and received the name "Condor". On the Indian cargo truck Tatra with the wheel formula 8X8, the upper part of the G5-2000 howitzer was installed. It can be optimized for NATO standard 155mm ammunition. The gun is provided with a semi-automatic loading system with automatic supply of ammunition shop-tray.

The firing range - about 42.5 kilometer conventional ammunition, ammunition "V-LAP" firing range is up to 55 kilometers. The howitzer has a circular sector of fire with the possibility of six shots without reloading. To reload, the howitzer barrel must return to the 80 degree sector to facilitate loading ammunition into the magazine. Howitzer has the ability to conduct direct fire. The mounted optical sight provides direct firing at distances up to 3 kilometers. Barrel monoblock, muzzle brake with a double partition, the shot is produced by electrically activating the trigger mechanism. A backup optical-mechanical sight is mounted on the trunnion.

Complete calculation of the 5-52 - 6-8 people (driver, commander and guns), two of them are engaged in the preparation and loading of ammunition. The calculation of four people can bring a weapon into combat readiness in just one minute.

The T5-52 consists of the WN 8X8 chassis from the Tatra T815 truck and the howitzer gun mounted on it from the “G5-2000”. The self-propelled howitzer T5-52 is equipped with a hp 335 turbo diesel engine. Ten-speed manual transmission, two-speed transfer case. Installed a central system of pumping wheels, with the possibility of pumping wheels in motion. To ensure chassis stabilization during firing, three stabilization hydraulic paddles are used. The howitzer does not carry additional armor, however, on request it is possible to install the cockpit's armor protection against small arms. weapons and ammunition fragments.

Somehow I’m not sure of the advisability of creating just such self-propelled guns, although perhaps not right ...

It seems to me advisable to replace towed guns with such (shit and go ....), but let the self-propelled guns remain .... smile

Yes, and it is also desirable that there would be the possibility of dismantling the gun itself and installing it on the ground during a long stay at the same position.
The USSR also tried to do this, but it did not work out - it could not withstand the loads of the chassis.
And for Kazakhstan have already done something similar

Howitzer Semser (semser translated from Kazakh - sword) is a variant of the Atmos howitzer mounted on a truck.
The constructive solution is to use a turntable with a 122-mm howitzer D-30 mounted on it.
        Crew - 6 people, fire rate - 6 rounds per minute, firing range - 15300 m.
The turntable can rotate 360 degrees.
The stability of the combat platform is ensured by using 4 retractable hydraulic stabilizers located behind the second and fourth bridges of the Kamaz truck (8x8 wheel arrangement).
Designed for the armed forces of Kazakhstan by the Israelis. The first self-propelled guns arrived in the troops in 2008.

I’m sure that this is better than towed guns. It’s obviously not suitable for direct fire, but it’s indispensable with PDO. Only professionals, not soldiers who serve for six months, should operate such a system.

From a closed position it’s definitely better, but if partisans jump out of the bushes, it’s better to be buried in the ground, the equipped position is better ...

There is probably a small mistake in the article. For this weapon is used as a base not "Tatra", but a truck of its own production "Tata LPTA-3138 8X8"

There are two pictures from TATA and two from Tatra. Compare the cabin on the last

I agree, the last one looks like "Tatra". It is not clear only why "Tata" uses "Tatras".

Here's an example of another similar cannon, the Swedish http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Q6RqA94Xak8
Arrived, pulnul at a decent distance and quickly washed off. When working in a common information network, using a high-precision navigation system, guided missiles and a high level of automation of the loading and pointing processes, we get a pretty decent artillery system with a very modest combat crew
