NASA employees are preparing to launch a new hypersonic unmanned aircraft X-43A, or rather its experimental version. Due to the engine type scramjet, which he is equipped with, this aircraft can reach speeds exceeding the speed of sound 10 times. The plane will be fixed on the rocket and raised with the help of the B-52 bomber. In this way, with the help of a rocket, experts are going to disperse the plane and at the height of 33 km they will disconnect the plane, after which it will make a short flight.
In the early spring of 2007, the first successful tests of this aircraft were carried out, during which him managed to achieve speed in 7 M. Earlier, in the 2001, the tests were unsuccessful. As reported in some sources, as a result, the missile booster was detected. The length of the aircraft reaches 3,6 m, and the wingspan of the 1,5 m. The engine with which the aircraft is equipped is an experimental version of the ramjet engine of supersonic combustion. The fuel for the aircraft is a mixture of oxygen with hydrogen, so the aircraft does not leave harmful emissions into the atmosphere. In the future, such an engine is planned to be used for delivery to near-earth orbit. The only drawback of such an engine is its need for pre-acceleration. The tests of such an engine have already been spent on a rather impressive amount of funds. The aircraft was developed by a research center.
