The Russian shipbuilding industry continues the program of serial construction of multi-purpose corvettes of project 20380 "Steregushchiy". Two next ships of this type are currently being tested at sea ranges and are being prepared for future service. According to current plans, they will be handed over to the customer this year. At the same time, several more buildings are at different stages of construction.

Work in progress

The construction of corvettes pr. 20380 has been underway since the beginning of the 2001s. The first to master it was the Severnaya Verf plant (St. Petersburg). The lead ship of the Guardian series was laid down in 2008 and handed over to the Navy in 2011. In 14-XNUMX three more corvettes were handed over. All built pennants became part of the Baltic fleet. Then the project was finalized taking into account the accumulated experience, and after a break, Severnaya Verf laid down the next order.

In 2006, the Amur Shipbuilding Plant (Komsomolsk-on-Amur) joined the construction of new corvettes. From 2017 to 2020, he handed over three ships to the Pacific Fleet, and construction continues. Its results are expected in the foreseeable future.

In February 2015, in St. Petersburg, the seventh in the series (by date of laying) corvette pr. 20380, named Zealous, was laid down. The construction of this ship in the workshop continued until March 2020, when it was launched. Shortly thereafter, the crew was formed and the process of his training began. At the end of the same year, the corvette was brought to factory sea trials.

In October 2021, the Zealous ship changed its name. It was named "Mercury" - in honor of the famous brig of the XNUMXth century, which distinguished itself in an unequal battle with the Turkish squadron. Another ship, originally built under the name "Mercury", became "Daring".

In July 2016, the Amur Shipbuilding Plant began construction of its fourth and ninth corvette in the general series, pr. 20380, under the name "Sharp". Assembly on the slipway took exactly five years, and in July 2021 the ship was launched. By the end of the year, construction was completed, after which mooring trials began. The corvette entered factory sea trials in April 2022, when weather conditions allowed.

The future of Mercury

Since the end of 2020, the Mercury corvette has been undergoing all the necessary tests. At the training grounds of the Baltic Sea, it demonstrates its running and maneuvering characteristics, uses weapons, etc. If necessary, certain improvements are made to correct the identified shortcomings. "Sharp" has been participating in similar events, but at the Pacific ranges, since April last year.

From the moment the ships were launched, the possible dates for conducting and completing tests, as well as transferring them to the customer, were called. At the same time, forecasts of this kind were repeatedly revised, and the expected delivery dates shifted to the right. The reasons for these delays are not specified. Nevertheless, by now we have managed to cope with all the problems, and the current plans again look optimistic.

On February 7, the leadership of Severnaya Verf and the relevant bodies of the High Command of the Fleet reported to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, about the ongoing work. It is reported that the Mercury corvette is undergoing the next stage of testing, during which it demonstrates the operation of all systems and assemblies. General ship systems, electronic equipment and weapons are being checked.

The Commander-in-Chief was also informed that the tests of the Mercury were nearing completion. Accordingly, in the near future the ship will be ready for transfer to the customer. It can be expected that the act of acceptance will be signed within the next few months.

According to known data, the corvette "Mercury" is intended for the Black Sea Fleet. After acceptance, the ship and crew will make an inter-naval transition from the construction site to the service site. How soon this will happen is unclear. The timing of such a campaign depends both on the pace of preparations and plans of the Ministry of Defense, and on the military-political situation. The fact is that in connection with the Ukrainian crisis, Turkey imposed restrictions on the passage of warships through the Black Sea straits. How exactly the Mercury will get to its new base has not yet been reported.

"Sharp" on trials

At the same time, the next serial corvette "Rezkiy" is being tested at the KTOF training grounds. In April last year, factory sea trials began. Activities of this kind continued until autumn. At the end of December, the ship entered the first stage of state trials. According to the disclosed data, it will continue during the first quarter of 2023.

The next stages of state tests should also take place during the current year. Based on their results, a decision will be made on the acceptance of the ship into the Navy. In the absence of serious difficulties, the customer will accept "Sharp" in the second half of the year.

Unlike the Mercury, the next corvette of the series will be able to start service almost immediately after signing the acceptance certificate. Thus, the ship and its crew will not have to make a long inter-naval transition and perform other complex activities.

Next ships

It should be recalled that the series of corvettes pr. 20380 will not end on "Mercury" and "Sharp". Several more such ships are at different stages of construction, which will be handed over to the customer over the next years. In addition, several orders for the construction of ships of modernized projects are being carried out.

On the same day as Mercury in 2015, Severnaya Verf laid down another corvette under the name Strict. In 2019, the hull, in a low degree of readiness, was taken out of the shop and launched. The construction of the ship continues, but it is not yet ready for testing. The timing of the completion of the necessary work is also not specified. Perhaps the pace of work on the new corvette will increase after the delivery of Mercury.

Against the backdrop of testing "Sharp" Amur Shipyard continues to build the next two pennants. So, in August 2021, the laying of the next Grozny corvette took place. About a month later, the Bravy ship was laid down. While they are in the assembly shop and are built on the slipway. Launching is scheduled for 2024-25. Accordingly, no later than 2025-26. two of these ships will replenish the Pacific Fleet.

In the recent past, on the basis of the base "20380", new projects of multi-purpose corvettes were created, and promising ships are already being built on them. Yes, in 2020. KTOF received the head corvette pr. 20385 - Thundering, built by Severnaya Verf.

Transportation of the add-on for "Daring" (at that time "Mercury"), July 2021. Photo by USC

The second ship of this type, "Agile", has already been built and managed to pass part of the tests. However, in December 2021, a fire broke out on it, after which restoration of the structures is required. In this regard, the delivery of the corvette has been postponed from 2022 to 2023-24.

Amur Shipyard, in turn, received an order for four corvettes pr. 20385. The first of them was laid down in August 2021; the next two began to be built in the summer of 2022. The laying of the fourth is expected in the near future. According to the established schedule, these ships will be launched annually, starting in 2025. Handover to the customer will begin in 2026. All four ships are reportedly being built for KTOF.

The next step in the development of the corvette family is project 20386. According to it, since 2016, the Daring ship has been built in St. Petersburg (it was laid down as the Mercury). In March 2021, it was launched and sent for completion. The upgraded project provides for the use of a number of new systems, incl. advanced propulsion system. In this context, there are some difficulties, and therefore the deadlines for completion of construction cannot yet be named.

Great future

Thus, the program for the construction of multi-purpose corvettes pr. 20380 is successfully moving forward. Necessary work is carried out and emerging problems are solved. As a result, the pace of construction is gradually increasing, and the customer regularly receives new ships.

Plans for the construction of corvettes pr. 20380/20385/20386 are scheduled for several years ahead, almost until the end of the decade. As a result of their implementation, the Navy will receive almost two dozen new ships. And the next results of such processes are expected this year - the corvettes "Mercury" and "Sharp" will enter the fleet.

Three tubs? You probably meant 8 "pelvis". That is how many were in the combat strength of the Navy as of December 2020, and the program is designed to build 29 ships in total.

After 30 years of unrestrained robbery and destruction of the legacy of a once great power, when it suddenly turned out (damn, who would have thought) that the Western "partners" are not partners for us, but even like enemies and they don't like us at all (and we kissed them like that from a pure heart, nonsense, in short). Then, now left with "inverted pockets and without a wallet", it is necessary to choose priorities based on the degree of the main threats, things are such that either lunch or pants do not work together. And at the moment, the main and direct threats to us are continental (land), and the sea for us historically, for many reasons, played the role of "auxiliary" and secondary, as a support for land activities. At the moment, it’s good that at least PSKRs can somehow blind, of course, we would like destroyers, cruisers, but we won’t pull it, and the yacht fleet of our dear “effective managers” must somehow be maintained.

In the Baltic Sea, the fleet is, in principle, redundant, the Caspian flotilla is quite balanced, but in other theaters of hostilities it is sad. Especially in the northern and Pacific areas.
Corvettes will not interfere there, but ships of the oceanic zone are needed.
If we had a good cruising fleet, then the “partners” twice thought about organizing maritime transportation with military assistance to Ukraine.

It’s unlikely with China, but with Japan it’s quite a possible option ... because. we do not have a peace treaty, Japan claims the Kuril Islands and the militarization of the country will only increase.

And if you remember that Japan (the island) is located in a seismically active zone, and earthquakes happen there periodically (in 2011, 9-9,1 points), then there is a possibility of a repetition of history with Turkey only on a much larger scale ..... and now the question is, what will happen if the island starts to go under water? What to do with 125 million people? Our Far East is nearby, which is practically unpopulated, and this possibility must also be taken into account (maybe not in our lifetime, but a lot can change in 50-100 years) ..

So we need a fleet that can protect the same Kuril Islands and that can at least somehow help, in the case of a database in the Far East ... (it is clear that we will not be able to compare with the fleets of the Japanese / Chinese / South Korean navies, but the fleet must be able to show its teeth ... therefore it makes sense to update the Pacific Fleet).

The Pacific Fleet needs to be strengthened, which is what the state is doing, but slowly. Shipbuilding programs are always long and costly. The Japanese are unlikely to rock the boat without the US team. But times and weapons are changing. For the defense of Our sovereign territory, three friends of Our state are used - the Army, Navy and Aviation.

In addition, the fleet has 10 submarines (6 SSGNs and 4 submarines), 10 submarines pr.877 / 636.3 NK are being built and modernized. The airfield network is developing ...
So, the Pacific Fleet, if necessary, will not disgrace the glory of its ancestors, and it has something to protect the "ours" Far East.

It's not even about the war. China, as a world trading power, needs a gigantic merchant fleet and a military force like air, which will be able to protect and ensure the unhindered work of the first. Russia has none of this and is not expected in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the Navy of our country simply cannot be the same as that of the PRC due to economic, political and combat missions.

As it were .... A merchant fleet appeared in very large quantities. And carry hydrocarbons and catch fish. I think that if the carriers hesitate, then we will build / purchase container ships. And everything happened suddenly in 2022. So the surface fleet is justified and necessary. And it will pay off. And it's already under construction.

Russia has none of this and is not expected in the foreseeable future.

You missed an emergency purchase by Russian companies in the secondary market of about 500 ocean-class merchant ships. This is VERY much, but it will allow you to trade your own resources yourself. And to insure vessels and their cargoes in their own insurance companies.
And to protect the freedom of navigation of our own Merchant Fleet, we need a combat-ready Military Fleet, with a sufficient number of DM and OZ ships. Therefore, this year announced the signing of contracts for the construction of six new frigates pr. 22350.1 and 22350M. In March, "Admiral Golovko" will go into operation of the Northern Fleet, and in December (if nothing interferes with existing plans), "Admiral Isakov" will also go into operation.
Of course, time has been lost, but if the bourgeoisie needs to carry a resource, and they have to carry it with their own ships, then they will willy-nilly build the Navy. For this, a base in the Red Sea is needed. And over time, perhaps, we’ll ask again for a stop in Cam Ranh - when there will be something to carry there, tankers and gas carriers from the Arctic to India to accompany / cover.
Here is the thing - in the existing realities of Russia in the form that we have, we cannot survive. It is necessary to revive the Empire. And the best name for such an Empire is the Soviet Union (at the same time, so that no one in the UN stutters about our membership in the Security Council). In general, I believe that the name of the state should be MALE (masculine). The Soviet Union is He. Such a one will gather everyone under his wing, and protect, and put the scoundrel in his place.
And the "women" (England, France, Germany, etc. harem) are fools, while eccentric and weak-willed (today's Russia is a sad example for us) ... the "collective" one (USA) is completely crazy.
But how SOLIDLY and unambiguously sounds: UNION! Firmly, indestructibly and all-destroyingly - like a blow of a hammer.
And (for the especially sensitive) no "communism" in the name and name - the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. And the Soviets, they are in modern Russia (Security Security Council), and even in the UN lol . Yes, and socialism has long been in Sweden and in the USA for blacks ... so everything is fashionable and neutral. But - historically. Only under this name did our state have success, development and respect ... and unprecedented power.

The Amur Shipyard is getting ready to lay the first 22350.1, 22350M in the new boathouse at Severnaya Verf. But time was lost - it was necessary to enter Ukraine in 2014, then we were waiting and were ready to assist in almost all regions. Then the Fleet would have been built over these 9 years, and the VTA would have received new An-124M, An-70 long ago (if they still decided), and the replacement of An-24, An-26 and An-12 would have long been built in series and on Russian territory .

Plus to you! Russia cannot survive without collecting its lands. And the name will probably be this: Russia - the Russian Federation - the Soviet Union - the USSR !!! Where all names are equivalent. And let friends rejoice, and let enemies die.

And the Soviets, they are in modern Russia (the Security Council), and even in the UN lol. Yes, and socialism has long been in Sweden and in the USA for blacks ... so everything is fashionable and neutral. But - historically. Only under this name did our state have success, development and respect ... and unprecedented power.

yeah, let's win! the main thing is to name it correctly!! and everything will be all at once: and science will rush forward 10 levels in a day, and the population of millions will grow by 100 here, and the incomes of the population will grow, and the enemies will fall prostrate before us!!! only it is necessary to call the UNION again.

do you really believe this or is it some hidden humor?

The pace of construction of ships after the Second World War is impressive. Let's take, for example, the destroyers of Project 30 - bis, with a larger displacement than modern corvettes. The lead ship of this project was laid on the slipway of the plant. A. A. Zhdanov on May 16, 1948 and received the name "Brave", launched on September 29, 1948, and after being presented for state tests on November 3, 1949, was accepted into the Navy on the birthday of I. V. Stalin on December 21, 1949 of the year. In total, 1948 ships of this project were built from 1953 to 70. At the same time or later, TFRs of various projects were built in comparable volumes, cruisers, destroyers of the 56th project went into series, not to mention various boats and minesweepers. Then they built more modern ships, the pace did not slow down.
The pace of modern shipbuilding is simply bewildering for those who served in the Soviet Navy.

You took examples of ships of the last century, with a low saturation of weapons and other technical means. Yes, in the USSR, the BOD 1155 was built from 2,5 years to 6 years. Now, we are building slowly, for various reasons. I was surprised that the British build their new ships even more slowly.
The leaders are Chinese and American. Although the Americans build their Arleigh Burks, due to the number in the series, with their eyes closed.
Let's see how they start building their new projects, frigates and destroyers.
Corvettes 20380 promise to be built depending on the hull from 3 to 5 years
Frigates 22350 are promised to be built (the last 5 hulls), from 5 to 6 years.
We will observe how the Shipbuilding Corporation will fulfill its obligations.
I would like to notice that not a single ship has yet been handed over to the fleet, without shifting to the right! (

As a cadet, at one time, he practiced on the artillery cruiser 68 Bis "Alexander Nevsky". Of the weapons on it, only artillery, torpedo tubes and anti-aircraft guns, with a manual drive. Is it possible to compare this ship with the same 22350- both in terms of radio-electronic weapons and in terms of torpedo and missile weapons (which 68 Bis simply did not have). So the comparison is not entirely correct. In addition, the USSR is not the Russian Federation. I agree on one thing - five, six years on a corvette is a lot

As for the anti-aircraft guns, you are not quite right. Yes, the 37mm V-11 assault rifles were aimed manually, but the cruiser also had other guns designed to destroy air targets. DUK (universal caliber division) - these are 6 100mm two-gun a / SM-5-1s - a modern radar fire control system for those times was already used here. These guns had a high elevation angle, which is convenient for firing at air targets. The 152mm main caliber was not very suitable due to the low elevation angle for firing at air targets, although it could also be used.

          Six 100mm twins. Not automatic.
In general, the air defense 68-bis according to the ZKDB met the requirements of the late 40s. and according to the MZA - the end of the 30s. And the admirals planned to build this miracle until the mid-60s - only the NSH stopped this extravaganza of wasting the budget.

The most interesting thing is that the 68-bis under construction were cut only because the Navy Ministry of Transportation for two years did not bother to agree on the project for their restructuring in the air defense missile defense system with two or four air defense systems, constantly putting forward additional requirements.

Better not to take. The Navy, represented by Kuznetsov, was against the construction of ships of pre-war projects that did not even meet the requirements of the end of the war. But the People's Commissariat of Shipbuilding decided not to build what the Navy needs, but what you can quickly get money for - and refused to build ships of new projects under the pretext of too long development periods. As a result, the Navy received a crowd of pennants that looked good on parades, but were of little use for combat.

Speaking objectively, there are practically no reasons to be proud of the Russian fleet and the pace of its construction. Spending 5-7 years on the construction of a corvette-type ship is, to put it mildly, not serious ...! And what is happening with the ocean fleet of Russia (the Open Sea Fleet) - why can't even the poor "Admiral Kuznetsov" be put in order in any way? I'm not talking about the construction of new aircraft carriers, TARKs, BDKs and so on ... Russia has only two Allies - these are its Army and Navy - and they keep these Allies on a starvation diet and in a black body ... All plans for creating an Army and Navy new generation basically exist only on paper or, at best, only in the form of prototypes or small-scale production (the same "Armata") ...

They would take an example from China and build corvettes of the same type in the simplest possible configuration, but quickly and a lot.
In 20 years, it would be quite possible to build and launch six corvettes for all four fleets.
A huge amount of time and money was spent with the Redoubt air defense system alone, although it would be possible to get by with the serial Shtil-1 as on project 11356.

      That's what I remember... :)
in 1962, on the orders of Khrushchev in Ukraine, in the town of Gromovka, the construction of a strategic plant for the production of underground boats begins, and Khrushchev makes a public promise to "get the imperialists not only from space, but also from underground." In 1964, the plant was built and produced the first Soviet nuclear underground boat, called the Battle Mole. The underground boat had a titanium hull with a pointed bow and stern, 3,8 m in diameter and 35 m long. The crew consisted of 5 people. In addition, she was able to take on board another 15 troops and a ton of explosives. The main power plant - a nuclear reactor - allowed her to reach speeds underground up to 7 km / h.

Dear author, how reliable is your information that the corvette ,, Sharp ,, will be handed over to the fleet in the second half of the year? The due date has been pushed back several times. The latest from the media is here in February. No other dates have been heard.
Second question. How are things going with Kolomna diesel engines for these corvettes? How is import substitution going with their components? There are no delays in the GEM?
And the third question. Why is nothing heard about the contract signed at the Army 2020 forum between the Moscow Region and the Severnaya Verf plant for the construction of 10 corvettes, two of which are 20385 and eight 20380? Has this contract been canceled or is it still valid?

The most successful project can be considered 20385 with universal launchers for missiles, and not with Uraniums like 20380 and 20386. And according to 20386, it’s definitely a project for cutting money, the price is like a frigate, and the capabilities are like 20380. And hope for a non-existent modularity. ...

The real need of the Russian fleet for corvettes is 48 units. 12 units for each of the 4 fleets. Plus 24 units. Far-field frigates pr 22350M (with USK for 32 cells and SAM Poliment-Redut for 64 cells) for the Pacific Fleet, Northern Fleet, 12 units each.
Six frigates under construction, project 22350, to be included in the Mediterranean squadron of the Black Sea Fleet.

, China, for example, has planned the construction of more than 60 corvettes for its three fleets, and what USC gives out is a drop in the ocean, and even then with constant delays and missed deadlines.

It is high time to upgrade the corvettes themselves, pr.
Then all RTOs can be transferred from fleets to flotillas, where they belong, to the Caspian Sea, and the newly formed Amur, Azov and Ladoga-White Sea flotillas.
