A few years ago, the supply of special forces and intelligence officers began to receive the latest optoelectronic complex "Irony" in different versions. This product is intended for monitoring the terrain, searching for various objects and determining their coordinates. Right now, such complexes are used by Russian intelligence officers and spotters employed in the Special Operation to Protect Donbass.

Reconnaissance units and special forces participate in the Special Operation from the first day - and use all standard weapons and equipment. In particular, the existing means of observation, including modern optical-electronic complexes, will do their job. The use of such systems is regularly reported and sometimes results of one sort or another are demonstrated.

The first reports about the use of the Irony complex in the zone of the Special Operation appeared in the spring. Such devices were mentioned by different sources. In addition, in April, a curious video appeared in the public domain, presumably filmed by the optical-electronic complex itself. It demonstrated firing a guided missile at an enemy stronghold. Such a target was discovered with the help of the Irony, which then provided a fixation of the launch result.

Similar videos were published later. For example, in September, in the Kherson direction, the operator of the complex removed the enemy infantry advancing in chains. The scouts transmitted the necessary artillery data, and shell explosions in the middle of the enemy formation fell into the frame.

Another curious episode of the use of the Irony complex took place on the night of November 13th. At night, the enemy tried to land troops on the Kinburn Spit. However, our operators of optical-electronic and radar reconnaissance and surveillance equipment detected the threat in time, and the troops responded to it. The landing attempt failed, the enemy suffered heavy losses.

The other day, on December 19, RIA wrote about the Irony complex News. It spoke with an unnamed special forces soldier from the Western Military District and revealed some of the features of the use of such a device. A serviceman with his unit works in the Kupyansk area and uses a portable surveillance complex.

The commando recalled that the "Irony" allows you to monitor and collect information about the area, identify various objects and make video. The device also calculates the distance to the found object and determines its coordinates. These functions are used to direct and correct artillery fire and aviation strokes.

New generation


Optoelectronic complex "Ironia" was developed by the Russian industry in the first half of the last decade. The aim of the work was to create a new multi-channel surveillance and reconnaissance means of a new generation for wide use in the ground and airborne troops. Due to modern components, it was planned to obtain high performance, as well as ensure effective use in current communication and control loops.

By the middle of the decade, the Irony had passed the necessary tests and received a recommendation for adoption. The industry has mastered the production of such devices, and since 2015 they have been supplied to the troops. The Ministry of Defense has repeatedly reported on the transfer of new surveillance systems to various units - the products are delivered to special forces and intelligence in all military districts.

In 2019, for the first time, an improved version of the complex called "Ironia-M" was presented. Apparently, by now he has passed the necessary tests and was accepted for the supply of the army.

Since its appearance in the troops, the Ironia complexes have been regularly used in exercises at various levels, incl. in the largest. Operators work out the search for targets and interaction with artillery and aircraft. Now scouts and special forces use their skills in a real military operation. A modern surveillance system simplifies the search for targets and aiming fire.

According to known data, within the framework of the Irony project, two versions of the observation complex were developed at once - portable and portable. They have similar functions, but differ in configuration, weight and overall parameters. So, the portable version of the complex has a mass of about 15 kg and is designed for mounting on cars or other self-propelled platforms. The portable version weighs only 3,2 kg and is included in the operator's equipment.

It was the manual version of the complex that received the greatest attention and fame. This product is built in a compact rectangular plastic case with protruding optics, controls, etc. On the front wall of the case there are lenses of optical instruments with removable covers, on the back there is an eyepiece.

The optical part of the Irony includes a television camera, a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder. Signals from all means are processed by built-in electronics and transmitted to the monitor in the eyepiece. Also, the video signal can be output to a separate monitor. It is possible to transmit a picture via a secure radio channel to a command post or to a consumer.

It is reported that the optics of the complex allows you to see equipment at distances up to 7 km or a person at a distance of up to 2,5 km at any time of the day. Within the same limits, accurate laser range measurement is also provided.

The Irony complex includes its own navigation aids. Based on its own location, direction to the target and distance to it, the automation calculates the coordinates of the detected object. Then, using regular means of communication, data on the target are transmitted to a higher headquarters or directly to fire weapons.

To expand the detection capabilities and to ensure the safety of the calculation, the complex includes several additional motion sensors. By placing them around the position, the scouts can control the area with a radius of 3 km and timely learn about the approach of the enemy.

Obvious benefit


Optoelectronic complex "Ironia" is capable of solving a wide range of tasks related to monitoring the area or reconnaissance of targets. With its help, scouts can search for important enemy targets and collect data on the situation, as well as direct and correct the fire of various means. In general, the potential and benefits of such a complex are obvious.

Irony has a number of strengths. First of all, this is a successful combination of small dimensions / weight and fairly high performance. Lightweight complex with an ergonomic body allows you to monitor at any time of the day and in any weather conditions. At the same time, the range of confident target recognition, depending on its type and external conditions, reaches several kilometers. The transportable version of the complex is also quite convenient in operation - a large mass is compensated by the lack of the need to carry the calculation forces.

Of great importance is the presence of built-in navigation and computing facilities, as well as a communication system. All this allows you to process incoming data as quickly as possible, determine the coordinates of the target and issue target designation or adjustment. In this regard, "Ironia" compares favorably with the means of intelligence of previous generations, which required, incl. and manual calculations.

"Ironiya" can be used together with other reconnaissance systems and complement them. The use of different systems with different principles of operation and characteristics will make it possible to more effectively monitor the situation, find various objects and hit them.

It should be noted that the supply of special forces and reconnaissance consists of a number of portable and portable means of observation and fire adjustment. In addition to the Irony, the Intrigan optoelectronic complex, the Sobolyatnik radar, etc. are in operation. With the help of all these products, a developed multi-component reconnaissance and target designation system is created. In turn, such a system forms the basis of the so-called. reconnaissance and strike complexes.

    Irony is a good thing, but completely useless, if not included in the network-centric tactical level control system of the Constellation type.

    I saw at the Archangel of the special forces (cart) how they fixed the launches of MLRS HIMARS missiles with this Irony, but naturally nothing came in response and HIMARS worked with impunity

    Why?

    Because it is not enough to see a single digital reconnaissance and strike complex, where people from the process of transmitting and processing information excluded. Their function is permission for fire damage, everything else is the work of reconnaissance and fire weapons in fully automatic mode. If so, then the combat control cycle is minimal - up to 1 minute. Everything else is already unacceptably slow.
    Who does not want to believe in this, he should think about the question:

    Why nomadic MLRS Grads (not even HIMARS) with impunity shelling Donetsk?

    That is why they are shelling because they do not have time to suppress them, i.e. they (in NATO) demonstrate the complete impotence of the Russian army in the counter-battery fight.

    What to do?

    Teach people to use what is 100% and digitize our old art, as Rogozin is trying to do. Hope you understand the pictures...

          To Rogozin, as to any official of this level, there are certainly complaints, but in this case, I think he is doing a useful thing and, most importantly, without any bureaucratic delays.


          In my opinion, at best, it does not interfere with anyone, at worst, it diverts resources, creates unnecessary noise and interferes with real projects.

      Counter-battery combat is when the enemy’s artillery either opens up the defense to support the offensive, and then it cannot go far and cannot stop fire for a long time, so as not to leave its troops without support, or vice versa, when the enemy is working to disrupt the offensive, and he cannot stop working for a long time, otherwise the attackers will achieve their goals, and then the counter-battery fight is waged. And yes, there, even the task, as a rule, is not to destroy, but not to let it work and, accordingly, to give its own the opportunity to successfully attack or disrupt the enemy’s offensive, depriving him of art support. And to destroy, well, if something was destroyed, it’s good, but it’s paramount that it’s not to allow the enemy to be supported by fire.
      But wandering terrorists need to catch UAVs + high-precision weapons (krasnopol / lancet) or direct aircraft, well, or reconnaissance and strike UAVs, it is useless when breaking into defenses, but for catching "terrorists" this is an ideal weapon.
      We just need high-altitude UAVs so that their army air defense (well, except for the s-300v) could not get it. You need about 30 of them for the entire front, precisely for catching terrorists ... Hymers are too deep, and they can easily click everything else.
