The development of domestic hypersound is a reality
Dmitry Rogozin 19 September 2012 of the year in Tula at the visiting session of the military-industrial commission made a statement that in the very near future we can expect the creation of a Russian holding company that will be engaged in the development of hypersonic technologies.
Vice Prime Minister named the enterprises that will be included in its composition. So, in particular, it will be attended by such developers weapons, as NPO Mashinostroyenia (which is to withdraw from Roskosmos) and Tactical Missiles Corporation. The newly formed holding is supposed to be located in the structure of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. According to Rogozin, such an industrial association took shape a long time ago, the problem consisted only in certain legal problems that are currently being resolved. In addition, the Almaz-Antey concern, which is currently engaged in aerospace and missile defense systems, will actively take part in the cooperation.
As the Deputy Prime Minister stated, at the time when the idea of creating a holding had just appeared, the leadership of Roskosmos was against the release of MIC NPO Mashinostroyenia OJSC, because this company was integrated into the rocket industry. However, later, during the preparation of the reform of The NGO dropped out of Roscosmos. Previously, the association was engaged in the creation of coastal missile systems "Bastion", but later it specialized only in the creation of the Condor E remote sensing system. This system will be completed, NGOs will specialize exclusively in combat components, but no longer part of Roskosmos. It is the merger of enterprises, not their absorption, which, in the end, according to Rogozin, will create prospects for the development of hypersonic technologies.
The ideas of Rogozin are supported by Igor Korotchenko, who is the chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of Russia, a military expert, the editor-in-chief of the National Defense publication and the director of the Center for Analysis of the World Arms Trade. According to him, the merger of enterprises into a single holding will provide an opportunity to concentrate funding on the most promising programs to create new types of weapons, including those based on hypersound principles. The holding may become the main center for the development of tactical and strategic weapons in the country. In addition, Korotchenko said, both enterprises that will be included in the holding have very great potential, which will allow them to focus their main efforts on developing the most priority programs aimed at developing promising new weapons, which in turn will create new prospects for the development of the national defense complex. .
It is assumed that Boris Obnosov, who currently holds the position of Director General of Tactical Missile Weapons - a person who has vast experience in the military-missile system, a competent qualified engineer, will head the holding.
It should also be noted that Rogozin is not the first time interested in the development and possibilities of using hypersonic technologies. So, in particular, in May of this year, he made a statement that the successes of the Americans, which they can achieve before the 2015 year, will become a real threat to Russia. He stressed that Russia in this area lags far behind the United States of America, since research in the field of hypersonic technology in Russia was resumed only in 2009 year. In his opinion, this lag was caused primarily by the wrong decisions of the Soviet leadership in the late 80-s of the XX century, which decided to stop research. Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister made a proposal to raise the development of hypersonic weapons to the highest state level.
Meanwhile, according to experts, it is the Americans who are currently leaders in the development of hypersonic technology. Over the past decade in America, about 2 billions of dollars have been spent on programs for creating hypersonic aircraft. And more recently, tests were conducted hypersonic American missile WaveRider X-51, which, however, ended in failure. This rocket can reach speeds of up to 6900 kilometers per hour, that is, several times higher than the speed of sound. According to the designers' plans, this drone should be an alternative system to ballistic intercontinental missiles with nuclear warheads. Well, they still have time to correct mistakes and miscalculations.
And finally, I would like to remind you of some achievements in the development of hypersonic technologies.
The first developments in this area were the development of Soviet designers, which began in the 50-ies of the twentieth century. The speed of hypersonic devices of that time was five times the speed of sound. The first experience in the field of hypersound was “Spiral” - an aerospace system that was an orbital plane that was launched at a height of about 30 kilometers from a hypersonic plane. According to the researchers, its speed was 6 times the speed of sound (about seven thousand kilometers per hour). But then the “Spiral”, which was created, as a response to the Americans on the X-20 Dyna Soar, could not fly (as did the American version).
More real-world tests of hypersonic technology were conducted at the very end of the existence of the Soviet Union. At the end of November 1991, the first flight of the “Cold” took place - a flying laboratory that was created on the basis of the 5В28 C-200 anti-aircraft missile, which was outdated by that time. The tests were conducted at the Sary-Shagan test site. The choice of the C-200 as the basis was dictated primarily by the technical and flight characteristics of the complex, as well as the fact that it began to be massively decommissioned and replaced with the C-300.
The main component of the laboratory is a straight-through hypersonic jet-air engine capable of accelerating the carrier up to a speed exceeding the speed of sound several times at a height of the order of 20-35 kilometers. Before 1999, a number of tests were carried out, which proved to be very successful. At the same time, it was possible to reach speeds of about 1900 kilometers per hour. But then all further developments of hypersonic technologies were curtailed due to the economic crisis of 1998.
The fact of what actually happened in Russia during the 2000-2010 period is not known for certain. But, according to the information that is publicly available, you can identify several main directions of development of hypersound. These are, first of all, combat maneuvering blocks for ballistic intercontinental land-based and sea-based missiles. They have much larger dimensions and weight, but they are capable of maneuvering in the atmosphere, which makes it impossible to intercept them with missile defense systems. In addition to these blocks, the Zirkon anti-ship missile complex with a hypersonic rocket, which is engaged in by the NPO Mashinostroyenia, is in the process of development. It is based on the Yakhont / Onyx supersonic anti-aircraft complex, and it should also serve as the basis for a hypersonic rocket, which is being developed by the efforts of Russia and India.
In addition to these projects, there is also an air base missile system, the name of which is still unknown. The rocket of this complex should reach speed, more than the speed of sound in 13 times. Its development is also involved in the corporation "TRV".
Thus, if all these projects are combined into a single holding, the result can be much more efficient, because a ship-based, airborne, and perhaps land-based, hypersonic missile can be created. Indeed, today, according to experts, the main problem for Russia is the creation of hypersonic vehicles in America as part of the Prompt Global Strike project - a high-precision non-nuclear weapon system with which you can hit any point on the globe within one hour. And if such a system is created, Russia will be able to respond only with intercontinental ballistic missiles ...
