Export version of the air defense system of the DB with the IRIS-T SL - IRIS-T SLM rocket (Germany)

The German company "DIEHL BGT" brings to completion the creation of an air defense missile system called "IRIS-T SLM". It is designed to provide air defense protection of populated areas, important infrastructure facilities, military camps and bases. In the 2014 year, it is planned to put this IRIS-T SLM ADMS into service and begin mass production. The short-range anti-aircraft missile system “IRIS-T SLM” will be integrated into the unified NATO missile and air defense system located in the European Union countries.

Export version of the air defense system of the DB with the IRIS-T SL - IRIS-T SLM rocket (Germany)

The creation of a new air defense missile system is being carried out in accordance with the contract for the development of a modern guided missile and a launcher for the needs of German air defense systems. Launching complexes have high mobility and the ability to transport on C-130 aircraft. Missiles are shipped in light fiberglass unattended containers (TLC). With the help of TZM with manipulators, 8 TPK with missiles are loaded onto the launch pad in 10 minutes. The missile has a fragmented warhead, which eliminates the possibility of detonation during transportation or in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

The base for the new air defense missile system was the IRIS-T SL rocket, which in turn was a modification for the ground launch of the air-to-air missile IRIS-T. The development of missiles for ground complexes begins in the 2007 year. The first launch of the IRIS-T SL with ground launch took place in 2009 year. Tests were also conducted in 2010 and 2011 (a total of five). The test site is South Africa. The rocket, which goes to the armament of the air defense system "IRIS-T SLM", is actively being tested and refined today.

The “IRIS-T SLM” complex, according to the published data of the development company, is an export version of the anti-aircraft missile system provided with modified IRIS-T SL. Just like the predecessor of the IRIS-T, which is in service with European countries, the new air defense system is planned to be supplied to several European countries.

The missiles are launched from the launch of the TPK vertical launch. For aiming at the target, a radar station is used, either a Giraffe AMB circular view or a new radar design with PAR.

Giraffe AMB has the following characteristics:
- detection range - 100 kilometers;
- detection height - 20 kilometers;
- simultaneous tracking - 150 air objects.

The new radar with PAR is quite an interesting development. Based on the design, it is clear that the radar is a circular view and is able to provide guidance and tracking of rockets by turning six-sided antenna surfaces. It is possible that this radar is multifunctional and provides guidance using the radio command method in certain areas of the rocket flight. As you can see, the side surfaces can rotate even when the car is moving.

There is a more simplified development of air defense missiles. First, it uses the Iris-SL missiles, created from the Iris-T aviation variant. Secondly, as can be seen, in order to reduce the cost of the rocket, they are installed directly on the launch pad, without TPC. The present gray-colored rocket is a missile of the Iris-SLM complex using X-ray guidance (possible homing and active radar homing).

The air defense system “IRIS-T SLM” provides all-round protection against airplanes, helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, missiles and other weapons. He is able to fight several targets, even at a very short distance and short reaction time. The air defense system carries the 8 TPK with IRIS-T SL rockets. Provided with full automation of the missile launch process, it can carry out continuous combat duty with minimal use of personnel.

Missiles can be launched in very fast target sequence at distances up to 40 kilometers and heights up to 20 kilometers. The “dead zone” for the air defense system “IRIS-T SLM” is slightly less than one kilometer. SUO "TOC" is controlled by two operators. It has an open architecture and can be integrated into existing air defense and missile defense systems.

    Serious air defense system with such an accompaniment of 150 targets.

    This system is only a part of the general MEADS system developed by an international consortium as an addition to the well-known Patriot air defense system "PAC 3" and realizing the so-called "open system archtecture", which allows unification of information and technical interfacing and operational interaction of various system modules. Regarding the ability of this particular IRIS-T SLM system to detect and track 150 targets at the same time with only two people, I have big doubts. May God grant them to deal with 50, and from these 50 to be able to fire at least 8 (according to the number of missiles per launcher). In real life, the performance of such a system is unlikely to be more than 4 targets, since there will not be enough missiles per target. But this is my opinion, Maybe I'm wrong.

      In theory, there should be a system for recognizing and selecting targets in automatic mode. And operators for safety and making important decisions.
      With the reduction of their armies, the highly developed countries of NATO do not lose in combat effectiveness.

        In such military systems, unlike civilian ones (for example, air traffic control systems), it is the operator who decides to set the automatic targets detected for tracking (or to reset false targets from tracking) and also confirms (or does not confirm) other estimates made by the automatic system for example, state affiliation of the aircraft, its class, etc.

    It looks scary ... in the worst sense, absolutely

    Actually, this is nothing more than another attempt to adapt the IRIS-T air-to-air missile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRIS-T, developed in the early 80s to replace the American AIM- 9 Sidewinder, in order to use this missile in the systems of military air defense and air defense of ships of NATO countries and, thereby, expand the market for this missile.
    Earlier, the Americans did the same "trick" with their "Sparrow" air-to-air missile, creating on its basis a naval version of the "Sea_Sparrow" air defense missile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIM-7_Sea_Sparrow.
    Radar Giraffe (Giraffe) is simply borrowed from the Swedish company Saab http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIRAFFE_Radar

    ... kazhezza ... with such a size of aerodynamic controls about super-maneuverability (as about the use of gas-dynamic control) these missiles can not be said ... in general - DO NOT IMPRESSION! ...

    Yes, Tunguska is already out of date. How is it in a joke - they fired and they were very scared? It's time for something new. By the way, on the Shell are automatic machines anthologous, noticed? ...

    The new radar with headlight is quite an interesting development. Based on the design, it is clear that the radar is a circular view and is able to provide guidance and tracking of missiles by turn hexagonal antenna surfaces.

    And why turn the headlamps overlapping all azimuth directions? belay

    The gray missile present is an Iris-SLM complex missile that uses radar guidance (possibly homing and active radar seeker).

    Despite the fact that the rocket has a conical nose (to reduce air resistance), there is an IR seeker there. The nose cone separates before approaching the target.

    How true are the data on the height of the target. The design of the rocket is traditional, but competitors have exactly half the characteristics, with approximately the same mass of the rocket, seeker and approximately the same warhead.
