From rifles to space engines: the main novelties of "Army-2022"
The Patriot Park near Moscow is hosting the Army-2022 international military-technical forum. This year, approx. 1500 Russian and foreign organizations. Forum participants always show both already known developments and completely new samples. As before, the domestic industry has prepared for the forum a number of interesting novelties in almost all major classes.
Infantry weapons
Permanent members of the "Army" are the main domestic manufacturers of small arms weapons and other weapons for the infantry. At each forum they demonstrate certain novelties. So, this year, the Kalashnikov concern for the first time publicly shows the SV-21 sniper rifle. This is a high-precision system with interchangeable barrels, designed for 7,62x54 mm R and .308 Win cartridges.
The MRO-A small-sized jet flamethrower appeared quite a long time ago and is well known to specialists and the public. However, only this year GNPP "Basalt", NPK "Tehmash" and "Rostec" showed it at the exhibition. Other samples of grenade and flamethrower weapons are demonstrated with him.
The Army-2022 exposition also includes other samples of the latest types of infantry weapons already known to the public. For example, the latest modifications of Kalashnikov assault rifles are again demonstrated, including the updated version of the export AK-308, the PPK-20 submachine gun, ready for adoption, etc.
Ground vehicles
One of the most interesting armored vehicles at the current exhibition is the BMP-3, modernized according to the latest project from the All-Russian Research Institute "Signal" (holding "High-precision complexes"). It is equipped with the Sinitsa fighting compartment with the same armament and an updated fire control system. In addition, the armored vehicle received remote control means and turned into a robotic complex. During the "Army" the car showed its ability to autonomous driving.
Also, for the first time, a modernized version of the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank gun is demonstrated. The exhibition sample carries a package of additional devices to increase the level of protection. It includes overhead booking elements and a new optoelectronic suppression station.
Enterprises from the Almaz-Antey aerospace defense concern have recently completed the development of the PRP-5 mobile reconnaissance station. Now a special vehicle based on the BMP-3, carrying surveillance and data transmission equipment, is being demonstrated at the exhibition.
Last year, the Military Industrial Company showed the first prototype of the Strela off-road vehicle. At Army-2022, the second prototype built according to the revised project is being demonstrated. While maintaining the overall architecture, the new Strela received a different body, a different engine, etc. As before, maximum unification with existing commercial vehicles is ensured.
The Ural company for the first time presented a prototype of a promising unmanned truck. Unlike previous experimental machines of its kind, it does not have a cockpit and controls for human use. At the same time, the performance characteristics of the machine remained at the level of the "manned" counterpart on the same chassis.
NTC "Protection" ("Roscosmos") and NPO "Android Technique" for the first time show at an open event RTK "Marker" designed to protect space infrastructure. Last year, a "Marker" of this configuration was tested at the Vostochny cosmodrome.
To equip various combat vehicles, NPK Uralvagonzavod offers the latest combat module Okhotnik. This product is small in size, does not take up space inside the carrier vehicle, and can also carry a machine gun of normal or large caliber. A control system with combined optics and a stabilizer is provided. At Army-2022, the module is demonstrated on a special stand that moves and pumps it. Despite the constant movement, the stabilizer maintains aiming.
Aviation novelties
The forum presents almost the entire range of modern domestic aircraft and helicopters. In addition, much attention is paid to unmanned aviation complexes, and one of the most interesting novelties belongs to this class. Rostec presented the BAS-750 helicopter-type UAV, an enlarged version of the already well-known BAS-200. The new drone is larger and weighs 750 kg, which made it possible to increase its carrying capacity.
A number of other UAVs are presented, incl. new types. For example, your version of the average drone developed RCC "Progress" ("Roskosmos"). A product weighing 58 kg with a wingspan of 5 m is capable of monitoring the area. The speed does not exceed 130-150 km / h, but the range reaches 1000 km, and the flight duration is a day.
For the first time, the mock-up of a new weapon for manned aviation, the X-69 high-precision cruise missile, was shown to the public at the stand of the Tactical Missiles Corporation. This is a product with characteristic stealth contours with a mass of 770 kg and a load of more than 300 kg. The flight range is defined as 300 km. This is probably the range of the export missile, while products for the Russian Aerospace Forces will fly further.
anti-aircraft weapons
The promising Viking air defense system, which is a modernization of the Buk-M3 product, is already known to specialists and the public. This year, the Almaz-Antey concern for the first time shows a new component of this complex - the 9S38E target detection station in a modular design. Along with it, firing installations and TPK anti-aircraft missiles are demonstrated.
Also on the "Army-2022" there are a number of other air defense systems, radars, etc., shown earlier, but of great interest. The facilities of the Abakan missile defense system, components of the S-300, S-350 and S-400 systems are again demonstrated. Military air defense is represented by both full-fledged systems and the promising Sosna combat module on a demonstration stand.
Space technology
A number of new developments were presented by enterprises from Roskosmos. Thus, the Keldysh Center for the first time showed new correction systems for spacecraft, made on the basis of Hall and ion thrusters. In terms of its main characteristics, such a system surpasses similar foreign developments. In addition, for the first time in domestic practice, the ID-200KR ion engine is included in such a system.
Another development of the Keldysh Center is intended for manned space stations or space tugs. This is a marching electric rocket launcher based on the KM-10 Hall engine. During tests, such a system confirmed high performance and operational characteristics.
Fleet prospects
Since 2020, the United Shipbuilding Corporation has been building two amphibious assault ships, pr. 23900. In the past, design images of such a UDC were shown, and now the Zelenodolsk Design Bureau is also showing a mock-up. On the deck of such a ship there is an aviation group, equipped with several types of helicopters. In particular, there is a promising multi-purpose helicopter Ka-65 "Minoga".
Central Design Bureau MT "Rubin" presented a new concept of the next generation strategic submarine missile carrier. The Arktur nuclear submarine is distinguished by the use of a number of new technologies and solutions. Such a submarine will be distinguished by specific contours and reduced displacement. At the same time, it is proposed to supplement the standard ammunition load with unmanned underwater vehicles for reconnaissance.
For the first time, the exposition of the Central Design Bureau of Marine Transport "Rubin" includes models of advanced underwater technology. Military complexes "Yunona" and "Harpsichord-2022R" are presented at "Army-2". For civilian customers, the Kit-3000 apparatus, created using the experience of military projects, is intended. With its help, it is proposed to build and maintain underwater pipelines.
Reserve for the future
During the current Army-2022 forum, the Russian defense industry is once again demonstrating its ability to develop existing samples and systems, as well as create new projects. Again, several thousand developments in all classes and directions are presented in Kubinka, incl. a range of new products this year.
The developments currently being demonstrated are at different stages. Some samples are already completing tests and are preparing for a series and adoption, while others are still at the concept development stage. At the same time, both of them clearly demonstrate the potential of our defense industry, as well as the prospects for the army and law enforcement agencies. It is obvious that a significant proportion of the current prime ministers will be developed and eventually come to be adopted. This will happen only in a few years, but the basis for such development of the army is already being created.
