"Huska-10" at the forum "Army-2020"

The development of a promising hovercraft "Huska-10" continues. This multi-purpose transport with high technical and operational characteristics is created for use in high latitudes and must ensure the transportation of passengers and various cargoes. First of all, the ship is intended for civilian customers, but the navy is also showing interest in it.

Transport for the Arctic

Over the past few years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been implementing the program "Development of shipbuilding and equipment for the development of offshore fields for 2013-2030." In early 2018, within the framework of this program, development work was launched to create a multifunctional hovercraft with the code "Huska-10".

The contract for the development of the project and the subsequent construction of new ships was received by JSC Rybinsk Shipyard, which is part of the Kalashnikov concern. The design department of the plant quickly coped with the tasks and prepared the first version of the project.

Already at the beginning of 2020, it became known about the launch of the construction of the first vessel "Huska-10". It was reported that the work is being carried out within the framework of cooperation. The main activities were reserved by the Rybinsk Shipyard, and the assembly of part of the structures was entrusted to the neighboring Vympel plant.

In August of the same year, the finished ship was first shown to specialists and the public at the Army-2020 forum. The prototype naturally attracted attention, and not only Russian structures. It was reported that foreign countries interested in obtaining multi-purpose water transport became interested in the new vessel. As a result, the leadership of the Kalashnikov concern called the Huska-10 one of the most promising developments in terms of export.

Work continues

ROC "Huska-10" is still ongoing, and various events are being held within its framework. Latest news project became known the other day. On January 31, the Zvezda TV channel showed the next issue of the Military Acceptance program, the theme of which was modern Russian hovercraft. One of the "heroes" of the program was the project "Huska-10".

As part of a promising project, various scientific studies are still being carried out. So, "Military Acceptance" showed the testing of the vessel model in the basin of the Krylovsky State Scientific Center. There, the design of the underwater part of the hull and skegs is being developed. Based on the results of the research, certain design improvements were proposed to improve its characteristics.

They also showed some details of the design and assembly process of the vessel at the Rybinsk Shipyard. The truss structures of the bottom of the hull, superstructure elements before mounting on the hull, etc. got into the frame. In addition, curious statements were made about the prospects of the project.

An early version of the ship's appearance

General Director of the enterprise Sergey Antonov recalled that the Huska-10 is being developed by order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade as a civil transport. However, the navy is also showing interest in this project. A multi-purpose vehicle with high performance, capable of operating in a wide range of conditions, can find a place in the armed forces.

However, detailed information about commercial prospects, availability of orders, etc. so far missing. It is also not specified when the current stages of the project will be completed and full tests of the prototype vessel will begin. Accordingly, the timing of the launch of the series with the subsequent transfer of finished products to customers is also unknown.

Features and Benefits

"Huska-10" is a multi-purpose hovercraft, the design of which uses new solutions for our industry. For the first time in domestic practice, on a vessel of this size and displacement, an air cushion fencing based on flexible skegs is used. This feature of the hull provides significant advantages over ships of other designs.

The vessel is built on the basis of a flat hull with vertical sides, reminiscent of a catamaran. Superstructures with deckhouses, engine compartments and other necessary equipment are mounted on top of such a hull. The payload is placed on the deck between the superstructures. In the bow and stern parts of the deck there are ramps for loading or check-in.

Current version

Flexible skegs are fixed on the sides of the hull - rubber-fabric cylinders of high elongation. At the bow and stern, between the rigid elements of the hull, there is a flexible air cushion guard. This design of fences allows you to create a pillow with the necessary parameters. At the same time, the new design of the onboard units improves the vessel's directional stability: the side wind does not interfere with its movement.

The project provides for the use of two engines with a capacity of 1500 hp each. With the help of a special transmission, their power should be distributed to the lifting fans and main propellers. The estimated maximum speed with such a power plant reaches 40 knots. Cruising range - 400 miles with an autonomy of 3 days.

Deck dimensions allow carrying various payloads - cars, incl. cargo, containers and pallets, etc. It is possible to develop a passenger cabin as a separate module. In general, the methods of application and the tasks to be solved depend only on the needs and wishes of the operator.

Applications

"Huska-10" has special driving characteristics due to the use of an air cushion. At the same time, it is capable of carrying a wide range of cargoes with a total weight of up to 10 tons. These and other design features allow the vessel to effectively solve various kinds of transport problems in various regions.

According to the initial plans of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a promising vessel should operate in the Arctic and provide transportation of people and cargo. Also mentioned was the fundamental possibility of using "Hasok-10" on the sea and river transport lines of the Far East, Siberia and the Volga-Kama-Baltic region. In all cases, ships should make a significant contribution to logistics and positively influence the development of industry and the economy.

It is reported that the Russian Navy drew attention to the project. He is interested in obtaining new vehicles for the Far North, incl. for its areas with undeveloped infrastructure. The general director of the Rybinsk Shipyard mentioned that the Huska-10 can transport various models of military equipment, incl. armored vehicles "Tiger". It is clear that the use as a combat unit is excluded.

As shown by previous exhibitions, the hovercraft is also interesting for foreign countries. Representatives of several states drew attention to the Huska-10, and in the future this may lead to the start of negotiations on new contracts. It is assumed that such a vessel has great commercial potential. At the same time, the ship will be able to demonstrate its capabilities not only in the Arctic, but also in other regions.

With a vision for the future

Judging by recent reports, the Husk-10 project is still under development. The necessary research continues, but the construction of the first ships has begun. All this shows that in the foreseeable future the project will be completed and ready for a full-fledged series in the interests of certain customers.

When, who and in what quantities will order new domestic hovercraft is not yet known. However, the project has great commercial potential, and serial samples can be distributed throughout the country and get abroad. At the same time, the circle of potential buyers is gradually expanding - and this will certainly affect the real portfolio of orders.

Listing the shipyards, the author forgot to mention the Vympel shipyard, where all this is being built. “Enterprises help each other, use their strengths and skills to create breakthrough developments,” said Vadim Sobko, the director of the plant. Are the breakthrough developments of Rybinsk and the Kalashnikov concern in the ability to receive orders from the Ministry of Industry and Trade?
And another question - what kind of engines of 1500 hp are installed on this ship?

... With the help of a special transmission, their power should be distributed to the lifting fans and main propellers ...
. Most likely this is a weak link, long and reliable work is not expected. To radically eliminate this shortcoming, it is necessary to switch to electric propulsion. True, the transition to electric propulsion entails a problem in the form of the operation of an electric motor on a propeller. It would seem that avoiding one problem leads to another. However, there is a solution to the last problem, and it consists in abandoning the traditional approach to building the "electric motor-screw" system. But this is already a different technological level, a new generation of electric motors, which still needs to be created. And here comes the rule: who did not have time, he was late ...

There are hundreds of options, I'm not talking about design ideas

It must also be taken into account that half of our country is located beyond the Arctic Circle. This is not the USA where snow lies in Alaska, but in the rest of the territory, only on holidays

So a closed platform is a limitation on the height of the transported cargo and a decrease in payload due to an increase in the mass of an empty car.

To compensate for the shortcomings inherent in the SVP, you can consider the option of using a nuclear power plant.

Self-propelled hovercraft barges - an excellent tool for "stitching" the supply chains of sea-land. The promise of this is indicated, for example, in the book "Ships and Shipping of the Future" by R. Schönknecht, J. Lusch, M. Schelzel, Shipbuilding 1981. And I completely agree with Alexey RA,
"And what other options can there be when designing a hovercraft with loading / unloading from the bow and stern and maximum weight return?".

This is not a ship, but an "intermediate shuttle", its functions are minimal - it is as easy and fast as possible to take on board any payload (from above - by a crane, horizontally - along ramps), quickly deliver, unload and go back.

In military applications, their job is to ensure the rapid transfer of cargo between transport ships and the coast, minimizing the most dangerous phase of landing in the surf and trampling in the swampy coastal strip, providing standard (!) land equipment, cargo and people immediately to land. In my opinion, their widespread use will eliminate the need to create special "floating" equipment - capable of not only slowly overcoming a water barrier (river or lake) - but moving quickly and maneuverably by sea without damaging the undercarriage on sharp coral reefs , rocky ledges and not getting bogged down on the swampy shore.

In a military version, it would be nice to protect the crew and mechanisms located on the deck of the barge in overall superstructures from short-range bullets and fragments (if possible, I would generally use the "pancake" layout of the units - to reduce the side profile). And he would supply the landing barge not only with pushing propellers, but also with Hamilton water jets - for high-speed maneuvering through water and shallow water. And use propellers when moving along the beach, swamp, ice.

I immediately recall project 10620 - icebreaking and transport supply vessels of the Vitus Bering type, on which there were two helicopters and two cargo platforms on an air cushion for unloading onto an unequipped shore.
