Airborne exercises in Crimea. Practicing skills and demonstrating opportunities
On September 27, at the Crimean firing range Opuk (Kerch Peninsula), another major exercise of the airborne troops started. Their purpose is to test a wide range of skills and abilities of personnel. According to the plan of the exercises, the involved airborne forces must demonstrate their capabilities for rapid transfer and deployment, as well as demonstrate the ability to conduct defensive and offensive combat.
Forces and means
The exercise started on September 27 and will last until the 29th. Units of the 7th Guards Airborne Assault Red Banner (Mountain) Division of the Southern Military District, based in the Krasnodar Territory, are involved in the maneuvers. The Ministry of Defense reports that at the maneuvers she is represented by one of the Guards Airborne Assault Regiments and the 1141st Guards Artillery Regiment.
Up to 2 thousand airborne troops and more than 100 units are involved in the maneuvers. weapons and equipment. The main Tanks, airborne combat vehicles, various automotive and special equipment. Also, the paratroopers will have to use artillery and missile systems.
The exercise plan provides for the development of various actions using all standard types of weapons and equipment. At the same time, some of the weapons have long been in the troops and have been well studied, and the development of other models has begun only recently. So, in 2020-21. regiments of the 7th Guards. dshd (g) received their first battalion kits of combat vehicles BMD-4M and armored personnel carriers BTR-MDM.
The scenario of the maneuvers was drawn up taking into account the experience of recent conflicts. A complex and rapidly changing environment is created at the training ground, which makes special demands on the skills and abilities of the student personnel. A sufficiently developed conventional enemy is being imitated, possessing modern weapons and even electronic warfare equipment.
According to the exercise plan ...
The maneuvers started on the morning of September 27 with a forced march. The units and subdivisions of the Novorossiysk Airborne Forces involved had to leave the points of permanent deployment in the Krasnodar Territory and get to the training ground in the Crimea. The transfer of the airborne assault and artillery regiment was carried out on the ground without the use of a military transport aviation.
Arriving at the Opuk training ground, the units deployed, and also provided camouflage and security. Then preparations began for the conduct of hostilities against the conditional enemy. For this, control points and other means were prepared. In particular, the Airborne Forces use the standard automated control system of the tactical echelon "Andromeda-D". Reconnaissance was also carried out to assess the situation and subsequent planning of actions.
The active phase of the exercise began on September 28 with defense training. The paratroopers in daylight and dark were to hold positions and carry out mobile defense using the available means. Also, as part of this episode, firing practice was conducted using the entire range of standard weapons, from small arms weapons to self-propelled artillery.
Having stopped the advance of the conditional enemy, the paratroopers of the 7th Guards. dshd (g) should launch a counteroffensive. The breakthrough of the defense with the subsequent development of the offensive is carried out with fire support from tanks and artillery. This episode involves T-72B3 tanks, 2S9 Nona-S self-propelled guns and D-30 towed / drop-off howitzers.
Preliminary results
Airborne exercises at the Opuk training ground are nearing completion. Their exact results may be announced later, but preliminary results can be summed up now. As follows from the message of the Ministry of Defense and the press, on the whole, the maneuvers are going well, and the personnel are coping with the assigned training tasks.
On the first day of the exercise, the 7th Guards Airborne Division confirmed the possibility of a quick transfer of two airborne assault regiments along the ground, followed by deployment and preparation for combat. Air delivery and landing were not performed this time.
Then the ability to conduct defensive and offensive maneuverable combat was shown. Airborne units showed good training and possession of materiel, due to which they were able to complete the assigned tasks on their own and without involving large groups of other branches of the military.
Subdivisions of the Novorossiysk airborne forces again got the opportunity to test the entire available fleet of armored vehicles in full-scale exercises. According to the results of recent deliveries, it contains both modern and older samples. The BMD-3 and BMD-4M airborne assault vehicles, as well as the BTR-D and BTR-MDM armored personnel carriers, operated in the same battle formations at the test site. Together, they successfully provide the transportation of soldiers and fire support, both in defense and in the offensive.
Several years ago, the Airborne Forces began to introduce main tanks. The benefits and benefits of this innovation have been demonstrated many times in a variety of exercises. Current events in Crimea reaffirm that not only specialized combat vehicles of the Airborne Forces, but also "all-army" MBTs can effectively support the paratroopers.
Also, the high value of the modern Andromeda-D automated control system is once again confirmed. With its help, all command posts, subunits and combat vehicles are assembled into a single structure with high performance. She provided a quick determination of the situation at the range, as well as the preparation and implementation of combat plans.
It should be expected that the remaining episodes of the exercises will pass without problems and end with the final defeat of the imaginary enemy. Then two regiments of the 7th Guards. dshd (g) will have to return to their places of permanent deployment and continue the process of study in their native walls.
Demonstration of opportunities
The current exercises of the Airborne Forces do not differ on a special scale - only two regiments from the Novorossiysk formation are involved in them. Nevertheless, these units received a full-fledged opportunity to work out the transfer, deployment and conduct of hostilities at a distance from the bases, which will have a positive effect on the general level of their training.
In general, parts of the 7th Guards. dshd (g) confirmed all their capabilities and abilities, both achieved in the past and received recently. They are ready to defend Crimea from a possible attack and can work independently or as part of combined arms groups, including units of other branches of the armed forces and branches of the armed forces. In all cases, heavy losses await a potential enemy, and then a complete defeat.
It should be expected that holding a fairly large airborne exercise on the territory of Crimea will attract the attention of foreign politicians and the military. The maneuvers will be another reason to recall the "occupation" of the peninsula and the Russian "aggressive policy". It is possible that individuals and structures will again propose to take various measures, up to the beginning of a military operation to "return" Crimea.
Nevertheless, the matter will not go further than talk. Condemnation, appeals and other statements are worthless and do not lead to any consequences - unlike real actions. And an attempt to "return" the peninsula by force will lead to a natural and full-scale response. Current exercises show what only two airborne regiments can do to the attacking side. At the same time, the probable enemy should remember that the Crimean lines are covered not only by one airborne assault division, but also by other formations.
