Poland offers a new version of the modernization of Russian-made helicopters

1
The Warsaw Institute of Technology Air Force (ITWL) demonstrated its version of the cockpit modernization for the Mi-24 helicopter and the Mi-8 / 17 multipurpose helicopter.

The package for the Mi-24PL is based on a modernization project developed for the Glushiec combat support helicopter W-3 together with PZL Swidnik (Agusta / Westland) under a contract with the Polish Ministry of National Defense, according to Janes Defense Weekly ".

For the new Mi-24PL package, an onboard task scheduling system and an integrated avionics system (Zintegrowany System Awioniczny - ZSA), consisting of navigation and communications control systems (ZSL) developed by ITWL and installed on Glushets helicopters, is proposed.

The package provides for equipping the pilot's workplace with an indicator on the Cockpit 4000 windshield of CMC Electronics. The weapon systems operator will also be provided with a data display system.

ITWL also demonstrated a proposal for upgrading the Mi-8 / 17 cab. In particular, the machines are planned to be equipped with automated navigation equipment providing search and rescue operations in combat conditions (CSAR). Helicopters will be equipped with Link-16 standard data exchange systems.

Most of the systems developed for the Glushets project are currently certified for use by the Polish NE, with the exception of Link-16. The Falcon helicopters, upgraded to the Glushets version, are also equipped with the Toplight electronic optical turret observation system from the Raphael company. The first four vehicles of this type are ready for delivery to the 56 th regiment of combat helicopters, which will include Mi-24, Glushets and unmanned aerial vehicles after conversion into a brigade.

Among other areas of modernization of Mi-24 SV helicopters in Poland is the installation of modular self-defense container sets of the Terma company.

The Mi-24W operators in Afghanistan are currently equipped with the Adros KT-01AB optoelectronic station (Ukraine) for countering missiles with the GOS-IC. Helicopters will be able to carry the Mesko 70-mm unguided missiles, guided missiles and possibly new anti-tank missiles. Two years ago, the Spike-ER ATGM of the Raphael company and missiles of the Ukrainian Luch design bureau were considered as possible options, but no final decision was made.

ITWL and the WZL-1 plant are also working on the installation of new TV3-117ВМА-СБМ1В helicopters in the company Motor Sich.

At present, the armed forces of Poland have 15 attack helicopters Mi-24W, including six deployed in Afghanistan, and about 20 Mi-24D. It is expected that the Mi-24W will remain in service until the 2024-2026. The Ministry of Education and Science of Poland intends to acquire 2018 new transport and special helicopters by the year of 26. As stated, this batch of machines will be of western production.
