X-NUMX mm gun howitzer D-152 (20-P-52)

The X-NUMX-mm howitzer D-152 was designed in Yekaterinburg OKB-20 under the direction of Petrov. Serial production began in 9-m at the plant number 55 in Volgograd (now FSUE "Barricades").

Howitzer D-20 has a barrel, the length of which is about 26 calibers, consisting of a monoblock pipe, breech, coupling and two-chamber muzzle brake. Wedge gate, vertical with mechanical semiautomatic. The turning and lifting mechanism provide the angles of vertical shelling -5; + 45 degrees, the angle of horizontal shelling - 58 degrees.

For firing from the D-20 they use the same shots as for the X-NUMX-mm howitzer D-152. Possible firing tactical nuclear ammunition and guided missiles "Krasnopol".

OJSC "Motovilikhinskiye Zavody" in 2003 has mastered and carries out up to the present time the overhaul of the D-20 howitzer, as well as the production of its parts and command nodes. In the process of overhaul, the designers of Motovilikhinskiye Zavody, Inc., produced and defended with firing tests the modernization of the D-20, which improves the performance characteristics of the jacks and the reliability of the mechanisms of the valve group systems.

The X-NUMX mm D-152 howitzer cannon is another example of the old Soviet tradition of combining the components of existing art. systems, getting new. In this case, the new 20-millimeter barrel was mounted on the carriage of the X-NUMX-mm D-152 field gun. This 122-mm howitzer was developed after the end of the Second World War (74 – 152), but industrial production of the gun-howitzers began only at the beginning of 1941-s, and for the first time the gun was shown in 1945.

The basis of the D-20 is similar to the early model of the 152 millimeter howitzer D-1, but it has a different location of the recoil shock absorbers, and the weight of the carriage D-74 is such that additional wheels are required to move the howitzer gun on the front of the frame. The shape of the shield is also different.

However, the main difference between the D-20 and the D-1 is in the selection of ammunition. When firing from a D-20, most types of D-1 howitzer ammunition can be used, but it has its own family of ammunition. The D-20 cannon was the first Soviet artillery system capable of firing tactical nuclear weapons. In addition, there was a large selection of ammunition with a chemical charge, which today are decommissioned. The advanced system of variable power propelling charges made it possible to increase the maximum range to 17410 meters, and the use of an active-projectile allows you to destroy targets at a distance of up to 24 thousand meters. The latest innovations include the use of anti-tank projectile mass 50 kilogram guided by the laser beam "Krasnopol".

155 mm barrel, which is mounted on a self-propelled howitzer 2С5 - modified barrel D-20. The former Yugoslavia exported a modification of the D-20 with a trunk of 39 length in caliber, which was adopted by the army of Yugoslavia - the state of affairs is currently unknown. The Romanian army is armed with a towed howitzer, developed in Romania and known as the M1985 Model. Some of the features of the D-20 howitzer cannon are seen in its design. The Chinese version was issued under the designation 152-mm Type 66.
