Post-war anti-tank artillery. 85 mm PTS D-48
First Chechen War

In the second half of the 48s, the D-85 D-40 caliber of 85 millimeters was developed by a team of designers led by Petrov. In the design of the new gun, some elements of the D-44 100-mm divisional gun, as well as the 1944-mm BS-3 1953 model gun, were used. The armament was adopted in XNUMX. The gun can hit not only Tanks, but also armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery guns and other enemy armored vehicles. The cannon can be used for firing at armored caps, embrasures of wood-earth and long-term points, for the destruction of fire weapons and manpower of the enemy, which are placed behind light shelters or outside shelters.

The constructive layout of the D-48 PTP has a classical scheme: a trunk with a bolt is superimposed on the carriage.

Barrel D-48 - pipe-monoblock equipped with a muzzle two-chamber brake, clutch and breech cage. The design of the gun carriage includes: wheel chocks, a cradle, a balancing mechanism, guidance mechanisms, an upper machine, a lower machine having a cushioning, wheels, beds, aiming devices and shield cover.

The active muzzle brake is screwed onto the barrel and is a hollow massive cylinder having openings (windows) on the generator. The muzzle brake holes are round. Brake efficiency around 68%. A wedge semi-automatic vertical shutter, having a spring semi-automatic, is intended for the production of the barrel bore lock and shot. Before the first shot, the shutter must be opened manually, after which it automatically opens after each shot. He work automation allows firing at speeds up to 15 shots / min. The cradle is a cylindrical cast made oboymennogo type, directs the barrel during rollback and roll. Recoil devices - recoil brakes (hydraulics) and knurling (hydropneumatic). The recoil devices are mounted above the barrel in the holder and are rolled away along with the barrel during the shot. The holder with nests is welded to the cradle. Trunnions used to connect to the upper machine are placed in the cradle. Frame (top machine) - the basis for the swinging part of PTP D-48. On the left, there are lifting and turning mechanisms for screw-type targeting, shield cover and balancing mechanism. Pneumatic balancing mechanism of the pushing type, mounted to the right of the barrel. The cylindrical cradle is made by casting. The lifting mechanism has one sector, which is located on the left. The screw turning mechanism was to the left of the trunk, its design is similar to the D-44. Shield cover - the main shield, mounted on the upper machine, and two shield flip up and down. On the supporting shield, which is rigidly fastened to the back and front armor plates, frame and bottom folding armor sheet, the rotating part of the gun was located. To the lower machine are attached two beds with openers, as well as the screw of the swivel mechanism. In the lower machine installed two-wheeled chassis guns with torsion poressirovaniem. The chassis during a divorce, the bed turns off automatically. The wheels of the car ZIS-5 have tires "GK". Sliding hollow beds of the D-48 cannon have a box section and constant openers at the ends.

If necessary, and if the terrain allows, the calculation on the battlefield can manually roll the gun. To do this, under the trunk of the substitute a small metal roller, usually mounted on the left bed with a stopper. The standard tool is a ZIS-151 vehicle or an AT-P tractor.

Sights:
С71-77 - mechanical sight for firing direct fire or from closed positions, installed constantly;
OP2-77 / OP4-77 - optical sight, permanently installed, used when shooting direct fire ,;
PG-1 - gun panorama, removed during transportation.

In addition, the APN48-2 and APNZ-77 night sights were mounted on the D-77H.

The ammunition of the gun consists of one hundred shots: armor-piercing shells - 44, high-explosive fragmentation with a full charge - 8 and high-explosive fragmentation with a reduced charge - 48.

Ammunition:
For firing from 85-mm PTP D-48, the use of shots from the D-44, KS-1, 85-millimeter SAU and tank guns is prohibited.

A separate artillery anti-tank battalion of a tank or motorized rifle regiment (consisting of two anti-tank artillery batteries, each with two firing platoons) in the 6 cannon battery (in the 12 division).

    Why is there no data on armor penetration in the technical characteristics of the anti-tank gun ?!
    Information about ammunition is also super-original - you can’t shoot something with a gun. And what can you do?

      To everyone else, the ballistics of the gun is new - the question is that the cannon with such a caliber and ballistics was received by the spacecraft (SA) IN TEN YEARS AFTER THE GERMANS "Let's say FRIENDLY - thanks to Tukhachevsky (c)" T-48, then MT-12. D12 in this regard won in the fact that, with a weaker ballistics, it had a large assortment of ammunition

      This gun has original ammunition, also a symbiosis of 85 and 100 mm rounds.
      The D-48 uses a shot of 85 * 708 mm, the diameter of the flange is 147 mm., That is, the length of the sleeve is longer than that of the shots of 85 mm of tank and anti-tank missiles (85 * 629R0
      Therefore, the use of other 85 mm ammunition is prohibited.

    I’ll correct the author:
    The tractor is called AT-L (light artillery tractor).
