Modernization of the Polish machine gun UKM-2000- UKM-2013

The Tarnov Mechanical Plant (ZMT), together with the Military Polytechnic University (WAT), proposed the modernization of the Kalashnikov machine gun in its Polish version “wz. 2004 Rod "under the NATO cartridge 7.62 × 51mm" UKM-2000 ". This will be a modern military machine gun, which is planned for delivery to the Polish army. This new product will be shown at the Polish Defense Industry Salon MSPO, which will be held this year from 3 to 6 in September in the city of Kielce. The upgraded "UKM-2000" received a new name "UKM-2013". The new machine gun will be equipped with a soft bag (magazine), the capacity of 50 ammunition.

Two modifications of the new machine gun will be offered for the replacement of those standing in service in the infantry units of the UKM-2000P and tank modifications of "UKM-2000C". New elements of the machine gun on the samples differ from other elements in the color of sand.

The machine gun was designed using a modular small arms system “MSBS” chambered for a single NATO cartridge of the caliber 5.56 × 45mm, replacing at one time the cartridge of the caliber 7.62 × 51mm. New modernization of the Polish version «wz. 2004 Rod ”-“ UKM-2013 ”also comes in two versions:
- UKM-2013Р - modification for infantry units;
- UKM-2013С - modification for installation on armored vehicles.
On the upgraded machine gun you can install optical and opto-electronic sighting devices, night vision devices and highlighting devices. Externally, machine guns retain the look of the PCM and the proposed improvements will only improve its ergonomic and functional characteristics.

The UKM-2013P received a smaller barrel with a high-performance silencer, the NATO standard 4693 bar with additional mechanical attachments on the top of the machine gun and three additional bars located on the flue gas outlet. Installed bipods also modified, they are folded forward and fixed in extreme positions by latches. Designers plan to replace the fuse, install a new ergonomic handle for carrying a machine gun and pistol grip. The machine gun will get a comfortable shoulder strap to facilitate the carrying of the machine gun and a “soft” ammunition store.

In addition to the visible, external, changes, there are internal changes - the machine gun has new (additional) hooks to facilitate the installation of a new tape with ammunition.

Looks very modern in a machine gun butt. It is a foldable type with adjustable legs and a platform for a comfortable positioning of the head when shooting. The lowest position of the legs of the butt is used for shooting without additional sights.

Polish designers continue to work on the improvement of a single machine gun for the Polish army. New promising universal machine gun received the working title UKM-2015. He will continue the traditions of PKM, UKM-2000 and UKM-2013. However, constructive changes are already being proposed - the machine gun will become fully modular with exchange muzzles, the tape will be supplied according to NATO standards on the right side. The main sights will be optical or optical-electronic sights, spare (optional) mechanical sights.

2 July 2012 of the year, after lengthy negotiations, announced the merger of the two enterprises "Tarnów" - the mechanical plant "Tarnow" (ZMT) and the center of experimental mechanical equipment (OBRSM).
