Post-war anti-tank artillery. 57-mm anti-tank gun LB-3

1
The 57-mm anti-tank gun LB-3 was designed in the design bureau of the plant number 92. Her prototype was made in the second half of 46. LB-3 was supposed to replace the anti-tank gun ZIS-2.

The barrel LB-3 was manufactured as a monoblock with a two-chamber muzzle brake and screw breech. Vertical wedge valve, taken from ZIS-2 with almost no changes. Semiautomatic copying (mechanical) type.

Post-war anti-tank artillery. 57-mm anti-tank gun LB-3

Knuckle hydropneumatic. Rollback hydraulic brake. The lifting mechanism is a sector, rotary mechanism of the push type screw. There is a sector balancing mechanism and torsion suspension.

For direct fire shooting, the OP1-2 telescopic sight was used, there is also the possibility of placing a basket under the Hertz panorama. The chassis used wheels from GAZ-1 with a modified hub.

In October - November 46 of the year GAP conducted ground test 45-millimeter PTP LB-3. During the ground tests of the 1544 shots laid down, 866 shots were fired. At this test stopped due to poor extraction of the sleeves, which by the end of the test reached 50%.

Ballistic data LB-3, obtained during ground tests:
- The BR-271 armor-piercing projectile with a mass of 3,14 kg (charge mass of 1355 g) had an initial speed of 985 m / s, while the pressure in the barrel was 3162 kg / cm2;
- fragmentation projectile O-271U mass 3,75 kg (mass of charge 925 g) had an initial velocity 693 m / s, while the pressure in the bore was 1680 kg / cm2. The shot range at the angle of guidance 15 degrees was 6480 meters;
- the sub-caliber projectile BR-271P weighing 1,79 kg (charge mass 1685 g) had an initial velocity 1274 m / s, the pressure in the barrel bore was equal to 3082 kg / cm2.

The system, according to the conclusion of the test site commission, did not stand up, and for further testing, constructive improvements are needed. It was also noted that the large mass and large trunk pressure of the anti-tank gun LB-3 create on the battlefield much worse transportation conditions than the experienced C-15 and 4-26 systems. This conclusion can be regarded as a death sentence.

Thus, the ballistics of anti-tank guns LB-3 and ZIS-2 coincided.
