Two prototypes of one ELC AMX tank

8
An interesting exhibit of armored vehicles is located in the Somur museum (France) - the airborne tank ELC BIS. This is a prototype of french tank 1955, intended to move it by air and provide anti-tank cover for the French troops. To control and combat use the tank requires only two people - a driver and a shooter / loader / commander in one person. Armament - 90 mm gun D914 with a muzzle brake. In addition, the tank is provided with twin smoke grenade launchers from each side of the tower. The driver and commander are placed in the turret of the tank on the sides of the gun, above them in the upper part of the tower two hatches are made. MTO is located in front of the machine. Chassis - 5 road wheels. Among the features of the airborne tank, we note the rotation of the tank tower - when moving the tank tower does not have the ability to rotate horizontally, but when the tank stopped, the tank tower had the possibility of circular rotation and aimed fire. The tank never entered service, remained an experimental model of weapons.

There are still, so to speak, a prototype of a prototype tank, which is called the ELC AMX - tank destroyer. The old photos show that the tanks have several main differences - the chassis has 4-e track rollers or a gun without a muzzle brake, the weight of this instance, according to some sources, 8.7-8.9 tons. It is known that it was developed on the chassis CC2.

on the rollers it resembles the suspension of domestic infantry fighting vehicles, which in turn resembles Ferdinand's "Porsche" - I have always thought about the connection between them.

80 km / h is very decent, given the silhouette of the tank and its speed, it was almost impossible to get on it. Not bad for intelligence.

      Leksander,
The French borrowed a lot of things from the Germans regarding tank building, for example, Leopard and Leclerc are not visually very different :)
So I think the French just took a good chassis.

I think it was like this: the Germans took the ELC AMX "make up" it as Vespa and put it in a museum.

and in tanks the tower doesn’t spin. It would be necessary for developers to ask this question

    Toy tank, frankly!
Something in the declared speed is hard to believe ...
I didn’t quite understand what the driver would do when the turret began to rotate, and the question arose whether the commander-loading-gunner would be swept up in the same turret with 90 mm shells, because he would have to do everything while sitting?
