The first IL-76MD90-A sent to the flight test station
Now the first flight instance of the Il-76MD-90A aircraft, also widely known under the unofficial name of Il-476, is preparing for the start of testing. On July 01 of this year, the aircraft with the serial number 02-XNUMX was taken out of the assembly shop and sent to the flight test station (LIS) of the Aviastar-SP plant. It is noteworthy that in the middle of last December, the same plane was already leaving the workshop. Then a small wave was observed News in the media, but, nevertheless, the rollout was not final. A little later, the plane was returned under the roof of the assembly shop - it turned out that not all the necessary work was completed. The next few months were spent on fixing defects and correcting mistakes. Now the first test board is ready and you can start testing it.
Of course, such “adventures” could not but affect the pace of the implementation of the IL-76MD-90А project. So, at the time of the first rollout of the aircraft from the shop in December 2011, the first flight of the updated aircraft was planned for April of this year. However, the events following the transfer to LIS forced us to seriously revise the plan. As a result, now the management of the design bureau or the factory does not announce its intentions regarding the dates. As for the rumors, various unofficial sources are now talking about August-September. This assumption may also not be confirmed, although, in the light of the usual duration of preparatory work before the tests, the end of summer and the beginning of autumn look like a rather plausible version. Even more vague are the dates for the start of mass production of the aircraft. In the best case, the Il-76MD-90A will start to “go off the assembly line” in the year in 2014 or even later. By that time, the average age of the Il-76 combat crew of all modifications will be close to the 25-30 years mark. Of course, with proper maintenance, aircraft can work more. But at the same time, do not forget about the timing of the production of a sufficient number of aircraft. Those. It will take some time to replace all the available two hundred Il-76 units. It is unlikely that all this will be done before the 2020 year, when the average age of the aircraft will grow even.
The purpose of the next modernization of the transport aircraft is to improve flight performance and increase economic efficiency. The main change is the engines. Instead of the old engines of the D-30 family, the Il-476 is equipped with dual-circuit turbojet PS-90А-76 (Aviadvigatel OJSC). Thus, the D-30KP developed maximum thrust to 13 tons and had a fuel consumption of about 0,7 kilograms of fuel to create thrust in 1 kgf for an hour. For the PS-90А-76 engine, these parameters are equal to 14,5 tons and 0,59 kg / kgf / h, respectively. Knowing these two parameters, it is easy to calculate how many kilograms of fuel is saved in just one hour of flight. In addition, all engines of the PS-90 family fully comply with all ICAO standards, which makes it possible to operate the aircraft equipped with them with almost no restrictions. Ultimately, at the same load, the updated IL-76 has a range of 15-18% more than previous versions.
In addition to the new powerplant IL-76MD-90А received an updated wing and chassis. Thanks to a number of design changes, we managed to improve the take-off and landing rates by several percent. Naturally, this is still only theoretical calculations, but there is every reason to believe that the new aircraft will fully confirm them on the tests. Finally, one of the main "pillars" of modernization is the new avionics. First of all, the aircraft’s navigation complex underwent a major overhaul. Despite the fact that the IL-76MD-90А retained the characteristic cabin of the navigator, the work of this crew member has changed significantly for the better. The new equipment facilitates all navigational calculations as much as possible. Some experts note that at this rate of development of the sighting system, the next aircraft of the IL-76 family may remain without a navigator as an individual crew member - his duties may be divided between equipment and pilots. Looks like they are right. The fact is that in the current modernization of the IL-76 received a fully updated instrument boards, made in accordance with the concept of a glass cabin, greatly facilitating the work of pilots.
However, all changes, such as engines, electronics or wing, have only one purpose: to improve the parameters of the aircraft as an air truck. According to the calculations of the Ilyushin company and the Aviastar-SP plant workers, the Il-76MD-90А is capable of transporting tons of cargo up to 50-52. The maximum take-off weight increased to 210 tons.
According to S. Dementiev, the general director of the Ulyanovsk plant, the Il-76MD-90А aircraft is almost the hope of the enterprise. It is the beginning of the serial construction of these aircraft will be able to withdraw Aviastar-SP from the period of financial problems. And on the scale of the Ulyanovsk region, an order to update the fleet of the Russian Air Force will give a number of positive consequences. The fact is that by the year 2020 it is planned to replace up to 50-70% available in the troops of IL-76. It is easy to calculate that these are on the order of hundreds of aircraft and then present the scale of the order. As the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region V. Zinnurov says, the project will affect not only the regional economy, but also the life of the whole country.
In general, the IL-76 retrofit project is really useful not only for updating the Air Force. Only there is one "but." First, the plane must make its first flight, go through a full cycle of tests and get all the necessary documents and certificates. After this, the “dreams” of good prospects for the project will cease to be just plans and the situation will begin to change for the better.
