Repair and evacuation shelves in Russia. Formation continues
In each district
The restructuring of the repair and restoration units of the ground forces was announced in August 2016. Then a new 10 th separate repair and evacuation regiment was formed with a base in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban (Krasnodar Territory). Soon he had to take part in command and staff exercises and show his capabilities.
At the same time it was reported that until the end of 2016, another repair and evacuation regiment would appear in the troops. Four new battalions, equipped with heavy equipment, were also formed. Over the next few years, the Ministry of Defense was going to create new repair and evacuation regiments as part of all military districts.
25 July 2019. There have been new reports on the restructuring of the evacuation and repair system. The Izvestia publication, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense, writes that at the end of last year a new repair and evacuation regiment had appeared in the Central Military District and was based in the Urals. Now the regiment is being formed in the city of Ugra. Plans for the formation of regiments in all districts remain relevant.
Shelves receive modern special equipment for solving a wide range of tasks. Depending on the situation and conditions, they will have to search for and evacuate damaged military vehicles. Shelves will take over the repair and restoration of machines for return to service. In the context of armed conflict, they will have to work both near the front line and in the rear.
Structure and equipment
According to Izvestia, the new regiments include two battalions with different tasks and corresponding equipment. The first battalion of the regiment is an evacuation, the second - the repair and restoration. The creation of intelligence companies is planned. Also, for the solution of specific tasks, it is possible to create small groups capable of performing certain works in conditions of real conflict.
The basic model of equipment for the new regiments is the repair and recovery vehicle REM-KS on the four-wheel wheeled chassis of the Bryansk Automobile Plant. This product is capable of towing a damaged car weighing up to 30-38 t with a speed of 50 km / h. There is a crane with a lifting capacity of 8,4 t. The REM-KS ensures pulling out and delivery of damaged equipment to the place of repair. It is able to work with a wide range of military, automotive and special equipment of the armed forces. The main duty station of the REM-KS will be evacuation battalions.
For repair and restoration battalions, the operation of multifunctional mobile repair shops of various types is envisaged. The use of modular architecture is proposed, which allows forming repair groups of the necessary composition, capable of servicing this or that equipment. Such a mobile workshop should carry out repairs of any samples, from light cars to the main ones. tanks.
Questions of recruiting new regiments with personnel have not yet been disclosed. Probably, they will serve as soldiers and officers of relevant specialties, which can be complemented by civilian specialists and representatives of defense enterprises.
During hostilities, evacuation regiments will have to switch to a special mode of service. He proposes the formation of repair and restoration centers in the rear, and also provides for the creation of several mobile groups of volatiles. The latter should work near the front and carry out minor repairs. Equipment with serious damage will be engaged in the rear centers.
In the future, technical reconnaissance companies will appear as part of the repair and evacuation regiments. Their task will be to monitor the situation on the battlefield, detect damaged equipment and issue data to evacuation units. For scouts created specialized machine MTR-K. This sample is based on the Typhoon Airborne chassis and receives a set of special surveillance and search equipment, both its own optics and unmanned aerial vehicle.
Expected effects
The current formation of repair and evacuation regiments should have several positive consequences associated with the operation and maintenance of military equipment in peacetime and wartime. First of all, due to such measures, it is planned to get rid of the characteristic problems of the existing system of maintenance and repair, which may limit the capabilities of the troops.
Now the evacuation of equipment and the conduct of some types of repair are assigned to the relevant units of the first-line connections. Other works are carried out by repair companies or manufacturers of equipment. In such a system, troop workshops may encounter problems in solving certain tasks, while others are beyond their power. The transfer of products to the repair industry is acceptable in peacetime, but in conditions of war it can be difficult.
The new system with repair and evacuation regiments in each military district should have advantages over the existing one. The restoration battalions of such regiments will be able to carry out various repairs of military equipment, inaccessible to the current smaller units, at the expense of the corresponding material part.
Apparently, the new regiments will have to exploit the full range of existing armored and unprotected repair and recovery vehicles. Thanks to this, they will be able to bring to the collection sites any models of equipment that are in service. There will also be provided for sending to the rear of seriously damaged specimens in need of factory repair. All this will lead to acceleration and simplification of the restoration of combat and special vehicles, as well as eliminate the accumulation of faulty equipment in subunits or at gathering sites.
An interesting innovation is the MTP-K technical intelligence machine. This sample will allow you to more effectively monitor the work of combat and auxiliary machines and identify those in need of assistance. MTR-K will not be able to evacuate or repair it on its own, but at the expense of its help, the efficiency of other samples will increase.
To date, new repair and evacuation regiments have been created in several military districts. They have already received part of the necessary equipment, and in the future they will be given all the other new samples. Some of this equipment is undergoing tests, but will soon enter service. The formation of regiments continues, and in the foreseeable future in all districts will serve in several such units.
As previously reported, the new regiments were already involved in the exercises and were able to show their capabilities in an environment as close as possible to the combat. Good results were demonstrated, confirming the correctness of the chosen path of development. As the formation proceeds, new repair and evacuation units will be involved in the exercises. During such events, personnel will test and improve their skills, and the ground forces command will be able to identify remaining problems and adjust their plans.
However, while one should expect some problems. The formation of fundamentally new structures for solving specific problems may be due to difficulties of various kinds. It is also possible difficulties in the development and delivery of new specialized models of equipment and machinery. However, such problems are usually temporary and can be managed.
A complex approach
According to recent reports, the process of forming new repair and evacuation regiments is not just running, but also gained the necessary pace. In this case, there is a serious and comprehensive approach to solving actual problems. Current transformations include not only the formation of new parts. Especially for them, a new technique is being created and new methods of work are being worked out. New ideas and samples have already been tested during the exercise and confirmed their potential.
Thus, at the moment the situation around the repair and evacuation regiments allows you to look to the future with optimism. The formation of all the required units is not yet complete, but the already existing ones show the necessary results and give the troops the required capabilities. The entire repair and evacuation system based on new shelves will work in the foreseeable future.
