The new Russian multi-purpose patrol ship of the near-sea zone of the 20380 project was designed for the Russian Navy at the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Almaz Central Maritime Design Bureau in St. Petersburg. Its creation was due to certain difficulties associated with the implementation of the previous multipurpose ship of a similar class, pr. 12441, since the lead ship Novik, built back in 1997 at the Yantar shipyards, was not completed in its time. In this regard, after the competition, in which the Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsMKB Almaz won, the command of the Russian Navy decided to start building a simpler and cheaper ship 20380, which they began to classify as a corvette (previously this type did not exist in the Soviet Navy and similar ships were classified as TFR). The direct military-scientific support for the creation of this ship was carried out by the 1 Central Research Institute of the RF Ministry of Defense. In total, more than 20380 Russian research, design and industrial enterprises (including Aurora, Kolomensky Zavod, Sredne-Nevsky GCC, etc.) took part in the creation of the corvette pr. 70.

The multipurpose patrol ship (corvette) pr. 20380 is intended for actions in the near-sea zone of the state and for fighting against surface ships and submarines of the enemy, as well as for artillery support of naval assault forces during naval landing operations by launching missiles and artillery strikes against ships and ships in the sea and bases, patrolling the area of ​​responsibility for the purpose of the blockade.

The ship has a steel smooth-cased hull and a superstructure from side to side made of multi-layer composite materials (slow-burning multi-layer glass-reinforced plastics and carbon fiber-based construction materials), which was done taking into account the requirements of the so-called stealth technology. The corvette case pr. 20380 is fundamentally new in its design and differs from the generally accepted ones, which has become one of its main features. New contours of the underwater part of the hull made it possible to reduce water resistance when the ship is moving at a speed of about 30 nodes by about 25% and, at the same time, the required power of its main power plant. As a result, it became possible to use a less powerful and lighter GEM, which led to the release of the 15-18% displacement, which can be used to increase the combat load. While maintaining unchanged the mass of weapons and GEM by reducing the resistance to movement of the ship on the 1,5-2 node increases its full speed.


The improved seaworthiness of the corvette pr. 20380, as compared with the seaworthiness of ships of the same displacement, with equal limitations on the longitudinal roll, allows its weapons to be used when the sea is rough with a force of up to 5 points (on 1,5-2 points are more than similar ships), which is especially important when basing on helicopter ship. In the stern of the corvette, for the first time for domestic ships of such a displacement, there is a hangar with an airstrip for an anti-submarine Ka-27 helicopter, and there is also a significant (up to 20 tons) supply of fuel for it.

Particular attention is paid to the protection and increase the survivability of the ship. The latest achievements were achieved in reducing visibility in the radar and infrared bands based on architectural features in combination with special coatings, rocket armament and antenna posts built into the hull, materials with high radio absorbing properties, local protection of individual hull elements, armament and technical equipment that decisive influence on the formation of physical fields of the upper hemisphere of the ship. The average circular effective dispersion surface (ESR) of the corvette is reduced by about 3 times compared with similar ships, which reduces the probability of targeting anti-ship cruise missiles from 0,5 to 0,1. In addition, on ships of the 20380 Ave., a set of measures is envisaged to ensure combat and operational survivability, including explosion and fire safety, constructive protection from weapons adversary and other measures.

The ship pr.20380 is equipped with a sophisticated technical weapon system as part of attack, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine weapons, combat control, detection, target designation, communications and defense systems. Its armament is based on the Uran anti-ship missile system consisting of two four-container launchers (8 anti-ship missile X-35, 130 km firing range) located across the diametrical plane in the middle part (similar to the TX 11540). For anti-aircraft defense, the ship is equipped with the Kortik-M ZRAK (in the nose), Igla MANPADS (for launch from the shoulder) and two 30-mm AK-630М artillery (in the stern). At the same time, the upgraded version of the Dirk combat module has a reduced mass of 2 and a missile range increased to 10 km. The main artillery armament is represented by a universal 100-mm A-190 artillery unit with an 332 projectile ammunition (maximum rate of fire 80 bursts / min, firing range 21,3 km, reachability in height - 15 km). The 100-mm and 30-mm artillery fire control is carried out by the newest Puma 5-10 system, the antenna post of which is located on the nasal superstructure. The unique package-NK anti-torpedo protection system is represented by two four-pipe 330-mm vehicles, located in port ports. Its torpedoes can be used either directly against enemy torpedoes going to the ship or against submarines. Also for the detection and destruction of submarines designed helicopter permanent-based Ka-27.

The electronic armament of the ship, except for the SIGMA BIUS, includes the Furke-2 general detection radar, the Monument-A radar target designation in the radio-transparent radome combined with the focus-mast design, two NRS, and the Zar-2 hydroacoustic system in the bow bulba, hydroacoustic station “Minotaur-M” with a long towed antenna, OGAS “Anapa-M”, automated communication complex “Ruberoid”, EW facilities and navigation. For self-defense against the means of detecting the enemy and its anti-ship missiles, the ship is equipped with four launch systems PC-10 of the complex of fired interference "Brave". For self-defense and protection from pirates or underwater saboteurs on 20380 Ave. there are two thumbnail 14,5-mm machine-gun installations and two DP-64 grenade launchers. The use of armaments is possible when the sea is agitated with a power of up to 5 points. To provide radio navigation for the anti-submarine helicopter, the antenna posts of the OSPV-20380 station were mounted on the roof of the hangar.



The modular principle of the architecture of the ships of this project allows for the construction of new systems and the modernization of existing ones on them new weapon systems and electronic weapons. This reduces production costs and provides a high upgrade potential during 30 years of the ship's life cycle.



The GEM of the corvette pr. 20380 is a two-shaft diesel engine, consisting of two pairs of engines of the type 16Д49, working through summing reverse gearboxes on two screws of a fixed pitch. The 4-22DG diesel generator 26 with a power of 630 kW each provides consumers with a current of 380 V (50 Hz). By reducing the noise level of the mechanisms of its power plant, the ship’s visibility in the hydroacoustic range was reduced - for the first time in domestic practice, NK applied technologies that were previously tested on our nuclear submarines of the last generation.

In general, the corvette Ave 20380 differs from the anti-submarine ships currently in service with its multifunctionality, compactness, low-visibility, high level of automation systems. With an economic speed of 14 knots (maximum 27 knots), the autonomous navigation range of the corvette reaches 4000 nautical miles. The crew of the ship with a helicopter service group is 99 people.

Modifications In addition to the serial ship pr.20380 for domestic fleet FSUE TsMKB Almaz simultaneously developed its export version, which received project number 20382 and the Tiger code. This ship is distinguished mainly by the presence of simplified weapons in export performance and the ability to replace the necessary systems with analogues of Western production, depending on customer requirements.



It is assumed that, starting with the 5 ship of the “Stereguschy” type, some changes will be made to the project, in particular, with regard to anti-ship and anti-aircraft weapons. Most likely, the Kortik-M complex will be replaced by a new medium-range air defense system with vertical launch installations (for example, Polyment), and the Urank SCRC will be replaced by Onyx or Club, also with UVP.

The construction program. 21 December 2001 of the year, OJSC “Shipbuilding Plant“ Severnaya Verf ”held the laying of the head corvette“ Steregushchy ”. Some time later, two more of the same type were laid - 20 in May, 2003 of the “Savvy” and 27 of July, in 2005 of the “Boky”, and then two more.

In total, it is planned to build a series of multi-purpose ships 20 (20380 for each fleet) from 5, and 4 of them should be handed over to the fleet before 2015.


Status on 2008. New corvettes should be the basis of the Russian Navy in the near-sea zone. The first two corvettes will go into service with the Northern and Baltic fleets. They will be used to patrol coastal waters, escort and anti-submarine operations.



The lead ship of the series - “Steregushchy” - was first presented to the wide public at the III International Navy Salon, under its export name “Tiger”, which passed from 27 June to 1 in July 2007 in St. Petersburg in July.
