It was she who became the first Russian product of its class, brought to the testing stage. "Phoenix" recalls that, according to official data, no country in the world has yet adopted a hypersonic system. Last news show that Russia is creating projects of this kind. The publication gives a couple of examples of unsuccessful projects of hypersonic systems from the recent past. Thus, at the beginning of the decade, the American organization DARPA conducted two test launches of HTV-2 aircraft as part of the Falcon project. Both flights ended with undesirable results. Tests recognized failure. In Russia, a project of a similar kind was developed under the name “Igla”. However, it also failed to bring to the desired state. This time, the continuation of work was prevented by a lack of funding.

The latest Russian projects in the field of hypersonic weapons seem to be a success. This means that Russian scientists and engineers were able to make a significant contribution to the development of the industry, including the global one.

At the end of his article the publication "Phoenix" asks a question about the fundamental differences between hypersonic weapons and systems of another type. It asks: what is the main advantage of hypersonic systems? Here is the answer. Its main advantage is the high flight speed, which, for example, allows you to effectively attack other weapons systems. According to various recent reports, at least two promising samples of hypersonic weapons are approaching the adoption stage and the start of operation. Thus, as the authors of Phoenix rightly point out, Russia may in the near future be the first country in the world to adopt a hypersonic weapon.

First of all, we are talking about the latest anti-ship missile 3M22 Zircon. Last year, there were reports of the imminent arrival of such weapons in the troops. A few months ago, in the spring, news was published in the Russian press according to which the new State Arms Program for 2018-2025 provided for the purchase of Zircon serial products. The missile has already passed a series of tests and in the near future will be able to get into the arsenals. However, it is possible that the first products of this type, in an atmosphere of secrecy, have already gone to the naval warehouses fleet.

The Chinese edition also mentions a “hypersonic rocket” called “Sarmat”. In this case, we are talking about a heavy-class intercontinental ballistic missile with special combat equipment. To improve the combat qualities and effectiveness of the Sarmat type PC-28 ICBM, a special guided combat unit called Avangard was developed. It is a hypersonic aircraft, capable of independently making a high-speed gliding flight. Like standard warheads, such a product can develop high speed, but it is distinguished by the possibility of maneuvering during flight.



To date, Russian officials have repeatedly talked about testing the Sarmat missile. In addition, ongoing inspections of the Avangard product have been announced. In the medium term, apparently, joint tests of an intercontinental launch vehicle and its hypersonic combat equipment will take place. The entire complex will be commissioned in 2020 a year or later.

However, the first carrier of Avangard will be a different rocket. According to recent Russian press reports, the deployment of these products will begin in 2019. Their carriers will be upgraded missiles UR-100N UTTH.

Known samples of hypersonic weapons developed in Russia are designed to solve different combat missions, but they have similar operating principles, which provide the same advantages over other weapons. According to known data, since 2014, China has been testing a WU-14 or DF-ZF hypersonic aircraft. The tests of this product are still ongoing, and the test vehicles made several successful flights. However, the exact characteristics of the product, as well as the plans of the military for its further development, remain unknown. According to various estimates, a hypersonic device can become a carrier of a nuclear or conventional warhead and will be designed to quickly defeat remote targets of the enemy.
