Bravo concept car was introduced in Detroit

US Army Base DETROIT ARSENAL, Warren, Michigan (26 April 2012) - This week, the army presented its latest concept car, designed not only to significantly improve fuel economy, but also to be able to generate and provide electricity to soldiers in harsh places such like Afghanistan.

(Considering the crime rate in Detroit, this armored car on the streets of Detroit looks completely natural. Professor’s comment)

After the grand opening of the high-tech laboratory weapons On the basis of DETROIT ARSENAL last week, an economical car demonstrator-technology was introduced to the public (Bravo version or FED-Fuel Efficient Demonstrator Bravo version). This presentation was held on April 24-26 at the World Congress of the Society of Automotive Engineers 2012 (Society of Automotive Engineers 2012 World Congress). The conceptual Alpha version of the economical car was presented to the public last fall, but it did not have the ability to provide electricity to external consumers like the Bravo version.

According to officials, when the demonstrator’s economical vehicle is connected to the network, it is able to provide advanced operational bases and other small military outposts with electricity, which significantly reduces the required base capacities and helps the soldiers to be more efficient.

According to the Society of Automotive Engineers, the army collaborated with students at Detroit College to develop the concept of a car as part of the CCS program for the joint program for the College for Creative Studies. This program is a successful and highly regarded top three auto giants Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. Thus, the economical car demonstrator-technology Bravo was developed by a group of 18 students according to the technical requirements of the army and is designed to meet the specific needs of the army in fuel economy, performance and protection, protection, payload and internal layout.

Bravo, an economical car technology demonstrator, was funded by the Department of Defense and was attended by engineers from the Research and Development Armored Center in Warren, Michigan, and their industrial partners World Technical Services Inc.

The TARDEC research armored center was widely represented at the World Congress motor show. In addition to presenting the Bravo Demonstrator this year to the public, he also showed a small TM3 Microgrid system that will be able to supply electricity from vehicles.

Bravo Demonstrator is based on a Ford sports car with a V4.4 8 turbo diesel engine capable of producing an 268 HP. Other features include the following:

• Road-related parallel hybrid drive system. The front axle is driven by an electric motor, while the rear wheels are connected to a hybrid fuel and electric system.

• An integrated starter-generator that shuts off the engine while it is parked and starts it when the driver presses the accelerator, which improves fuel efficiency and reduces exhaust emissions.

• Six-speed automatic transmission in combination with an advanced high-energy lithium-ion battery and power density.

• Powerful hydraulic anti-lock brakes in conjunction with a hydraulic power steering system.

• Ceramic brake discs with advanced coating to improve wear resistance.

• Tubular chassis frame for greater rigidity with minimum weight combined with an armored cab and a V-shaped hull for protection against explosions.

IMHO of course - demand. So there is a search for a safe and economical means of delivery. Although this machine looks and is crammed glamorous enough for a harsh army jeep.

The armored car is unusual in that it has both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, which makes it more economical, environmentally friendly and more durable. In addition, the car’s solar panels will be able to make it truly autonomous, as they will constantly recharge the car’s battery in the daytime.

The comfort for the American soldier must be ensured corresponding to the status of the country-world leader! What we see in the photo. But what do the fighters of other countries have when they try to somehow push in the struggle for the mythical "multipolarity"? ... lol

Interesting advanced little car. Even with a reservation. But for army use it is too glamorous. Perhaps suitable for the police.

For a military vehicle (equipment. Weapons), complication (rise in price) of the design is allowed only in the absence of an alternative. Any kid will advise instead of this misunderstanding a portable generator, which in stores at least rake a bulldozer.
And if you need a large generator power (by the way in the article about this not a word), then this diesel engine will not do anything with a 3-phase power supply.

For filming the next episode of "Batman" it is more suitable.

Only in the pics I noticed immediately 2 shortcomings:
    - it’s difficult to get to the units, you need to disassemble the frame, it is irrational for field conditions. Maybe, as noted above, a car for urban conditions, for the police, then this is not so important.
    - it's not so easy to move around the cabin from place to place, and you can't get into the trunk from the cabin ... But this is not convenient in any direction of using this kind of "car". And in general, there is little space in it ..

Professor, with a large selection of generators, it's hard to imagine the need for this "miracle device". Generators are inexpensive, they consume little diesel fuel (gasoline), in contrast to the need for electricity, they can be easily manipulated with dimensions, there is that it is possible to transport a car in the trunk of a passenger car (checkpoint for 10-15 people), and under the headquarters by a trailer to a jeep.
So, in my opinion, this is another expensive American know-how, beautiful, expensive, but useless in terms of functions and price-quality ratio.

I agree with what you write, but as they say "for what I bought - for what I sold." The previous Alpha model was just a hybrid (it's not bad enough to be able to move around, if necessary, only on a battery), but here they decided that there was so much electricity that there was nowhere to put it. how much will it be in demand in practice? Let's wait 3-4 years and see.

This is just an assumption. You never know the city is dead ... And if for the police, you never need a powerful source of energy ...
Anyway, it seems to me that their warriors can’t make up a normal technical task, and designers in this case, they still don’t imagine what military equipment is, the emphasis is on design and comfort, not on ergonomics and multifunctionality (their multifunctionality is limited to cup holders )

This is an armored car, in such cars there is always a desire for the maximum reduction of the reserved space.

Amer’s concern for occupied Afghanistan and other similar countries is especially touching.
An integrated starter-generator that turns off the engine while stationary and starts it when the driver presses the accelerator, which improves fuel economy and reduces exhaust emissions.
