Shooting complex SSK-18,5
At the beginning of the two thousandth, work began on the project of a new smooth-bore rifle complex at Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. As planned, it was supposed to include two self-loading rifles: one with a detachable box magazine, and the second with a non-removable tubular one. Also in the complex were to include ammunition for these guns. The first variant received the KS-K index, the second one was designated the KS-P. The whole complex was called SSK-18,5. Decoding the name is simple: "Special rifle complex." The numbers “18,5” in the index indicate the caliber of both guns in millimeters: The 12 gun caliber is equal to 18,5 mm.
KS-K
The next addition to the Saiga-12 Spanish 030 line of civilian carbines, the Saiga-12, was taken as the basis for a box magazine. For the most part, the design of the original "Saiga" has not changed. However, a number of improvements were made that were designed to make a full-fledged combat carbine out of a civilian rifle. The chamber was modified to use the 70 / 12 and 76 / 12 cartridges, slightly changed the operation of the gas engine, and a special movable shield was placed on the gate, covering the slot of the charging handle. The receiver KS-K, unlike Saiga-XNUMX, has a slightly more robust design.
Cover the receiver attached to the loop in front of it. There is a Picatinny rail on the lid itself to accommodate all the necessary sights, etc. One more level intended for installation on it of lamps, etc. "Body kit" is located under the barrel, in front of the forearm. Folding left butt, handguard, pistol grip and shop are made of plastic. The barrel has a flame arrester slotted design. Among other things, it allows you to make a shot with the emphasis muzzle in any object, for example, a door.
The carbine's trigger mechanism is for the most part similar to the Saigi node. However, there are differences. So, another manual fuse has been added. His flag is located on the left side of the pistol grip, just under the thumb of the arrow. In the on state, it blocks the trigger. As planned by the developers, an additional fuse will allow in combat conditions not to waste time turning off the main fuse, keeping the trigger locked. Due to the location of the flag, the time for removing the weapon from the fuse has significantly decreased. Also, the KS-K mechanic allows you to fire with a folded butt. On the "Saiga-12 isp.030" this is not possible.
Weapon supply comes from a detachable box magazine made of plastic. All stores of the Saiga-12 family are compatible with the KS-K. For ease of reloading there is a slide delay. As ammunition for the KS-K are proposed cartridges of lethal and non-lethal effects. The first are KSP-P with lead and KSP-BP with an armor-piercing bullet. In addition, there is a cartridge KSP-RP rubber traumatic bullet. If necessary, you can use other special-purpose cartridges that have the appropriate dimensions.
KS-P
The second carbine of the CCK-18,5 complex was made on the basis of the MP-153 rifle. Like the KS-K, this gun has automation with a gas outlet. Interestingly, the designers of Izhmeha have provided a special automatic gas regulator. Dumping extra powder gases into the atmosphere, he independently ensures the proper operation of automation with various cartridges. Locking the barrel of the 12 caliber before firing takes place with the help of a swinging larva. In the locked position, it engages with the emphasis on the barrel coupling. It is argued that such a method of locking allowed to significantly reduce the load on the receiver and, as a consequence, facilitate it.
The trigger and trigger mechanism is completely analogous to the MP-153 and is also performed as a separate unit, which can be removed if necessary. KS-P fuse non-automatic, push-button. When turned on, it blocks the trigger, which, just like on the KS-K, allows you to quickly bring the weapon into a combat state.
The most noticeable differences between the KS-P and the MP-153 are the length of the barrel and the folding butt. As in the CCK-18,5 gun described above, the KS-P has a Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver. On the fore-end, in turn, the bracket is not provided.
The 12 / 70 or 12 / 76 cartridges are powered by a COP-P from a tubular magazine for six cartridges. Interestingly, the design of the barrel and the vapor system allows you to install on the carbine store a different capacity. No design changes are required - a new store is placed on a regular seat. Upon emptying the store, the automatics of the carbine stops in the extreme rear position, like on a box-magazine-locked weapon and a bolt delay.

Both samples of Izhevsk carbines as part of the CCK-18,5 complex. By a government decree of July 14 from 2006, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia adopted the equipment. Accurate data on the number produced by the KS-K and KS-K is not yet publicly available, but, apparently, their number has already reached a three-digit number. Similarly, there is no open information about the details of combat use. However, due to the peculiarities of this weapon, it is possible to imagine exactly how it was used.
