Shooting complex SSK-18,5

Smooth stem weapon, despite the widespread stereotype of its exclusively hunting destination, has long been firmly established in the use of police units of a large number of countries. The answer to this popularity is simple: the police often have to shoot at relatively short distances, and she also has no task to kill the enemy - just to put down resistance. In addition, a smooth barrel allows you to make a great variety of ammunition for various purposes. In our country, the sector of smooth-bore police (police) weapons for a number of reasons was absent until a certain time. Only at the end of 80-s did some special forces have at their disposal a carbine KS-23. However, this weapon, having the entire range of external signs of a smooth-bore shotgun, was equipped with a rifled barrel. The need for a smooth-bore weapon is not removed.

At the beginning of the two thousandth, work began on the project of a new smooth-bore rifle complex at Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. As planned, it was supposed to include two self-loading rifles: one with a detachable box magazine, and the second with a non-removable tubular one. Also in the complex were to include ammunition for these guns. The first variant received the KS-K index, the second one was designated the KS-P. The whole complex was called SSK-18,5. Decoding the name is simple: "Special rifle complex." The numbers “18,5” in the index indicate the caliber of both guns in millimeters: The 12 gun caliber is equal to 18,5 mm.

KS-K

The next addition to the Saiga-12 Spanish 030 line of civilian carbines, the Saiga-12, was taken as the basis for a box magazine. For the most part, the design of the original "Saiga" has not changed. However, a number of improvements were made that were designed to make a full-fledged combat carbine out of a civilian rifle. The chamber was modified to use the 70 / 12 and 76 / 12 cartridges, slightly changed the operation of the gas engine, and a special movable shield was placed on the gate, covering the slot of the charging handle. The receiver KS-K, unlike Saiga-XNUMX, has a slightly more robust design.

Cover the receiver attached to the loop in front of it. There is a Picatinny rail on the lid itself to accommodate all the necessary sights, etc. One more level intended for installation on it of lamps, etc. "Body kit" is located under the barrel, in front of the forearm. Folding left butt, handguard, pistol grip and shop are made of plastic. The barrel has a flame arrester slotted design. Among other things, it allows you to make a shot with the emphasis muzzle in any object, for example, a door.

Shooting complex SSK-18,5

The carbine's trigger mechanism is for the most part similar to the Saigi node. However, there are differences. So, another manual fuse has been added. His flag is located on the left side of the pistol grip, just under the thumb of the arrow. In the on state, it blocks the trigger. As planned by the developers, an additional fuse will allow in combat conditions not to waste time turning off the main fuse, keeping the trigger locked. Due to the location of the flag, the time for removing the weapon from the fuse has significantly decreased. Also, the KS-K mechanic allows you to fire with a folded butt. On the "Saiga-12 isp.030" this is not possible.

Weapon supply comes from a detachable box magazine made of plastic. All stores of the Saiga-12 family are compatible with the KS-K. For ease of reloading there is a slide delay. As ammunition for the KS-K are proposed cartridges of lethal and non-lethal effects. The first are KSP-P with lead and KSP-BP with an armor-piercing bullet. In addition, there is a cartridge KSP-RP rubber traumatic bullet. If necessary, you can use other special-purpose cartridges that have the appropriate dimensions.

KS-P

The second carbine of the CCK-18,5 complex was made on the basis of the MP-153 rifle. Like the KS-K, this gun has automation with a gas outlet. Interestingly, the designers of Izhmeha have provided a special automatic gas regulator. Dumping extra powder gases into the atmosphere, he independently ensures the proper operation of automation with various cartridges. Locking the barrel of the 12 caliber before firing takes place with the help of a swinging larva. In the locked position, it engages with the emphasis on the barrel coupling. It is argued that such a method of locking allowed to significantly reduce the load on the receiver and, as a consequence, facilitate it.

The trigger and trigger mechanism is completely analogous to the MP-153 and is also performed as a separate unit, which can be removed if necessary. KS-P fuse non-automatic, push-button. When turned on, it blocks the trigger, which, just like on the KS-K, allows you to quickly bring the weapon into a combat state.

The most noticeable differences between the KS-P and the MP-153 are the length of the barrel and the folding butt. As in the CCK-18,5 gun described above, the KS-P has a Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver. On the fore-end, in turn, the bracket is not provided.

The 12 / 70 or 12 / 76 cartridges are powered by a COP-P from a tubular magazine for six cartridges. Interestingly, the design of the barrel and the vapor system allows you to install on the carbine store a different capacity. No design changes are required - a new store is placed on a regular seat. Upon emptying the store, the automatics of the carbine stops in the extreme rear position, like on a box-magazine-locked weapon and a bolt delay.

***

Both samples of Izhevsk carbines as part of the CCK-18,5 complex. By a government decree of July 14 from 2006, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia adopted the equipment. Accurate data on the number produced by the KS-K and KS-K is not yet publicly available, but, apparently, their number has already reached a three-digit number. Similarly, there is no open information about the details of combat use. However, due to the peculiarities of this weapon, it is possible to imagine exactly how it was used.

In order to have a collimator sight, optics or what you need could be stuck.

        collimator scope, optics

Simply "irreplaceable" and "absolutely necessary" option for smoothbore.

So I remembered KS-23, where to simplify and reduce the cost of production, lightweight and shortened barrels from 23 mm caliber guns were used
incident in the classification of small arms. Firstly, according to the still valid GOST 28653-90 "Small arms. Terms and definitions" this carbine is not a small arms at all, because has a caliber of more than 20 millimeters, and from the point of view of the standard should already be considered a small-caliber artillery.http://weaponland.ru/load/drobovik_modeli_ks_23_ks_23m_ks_23k/43-1-0-163

I have 12 on the saiga and the optics and collimator are easy to hang on the side fasteners, and these monkey picatini 360 * around are overweight and inconvenient ..... but in general in the army smooth trunks are unnecessary, so that the budget is mastered.

To whom, inside and ministry? So they work for them at short distances, will you use a collimator at a distance of 10 meters or an open sight, or is it still easier to use the LCR?

So far I have found this:

DIFFERENCES OF THE NUMBER 12 FROM SAIGA 12.

      1) Boar 12 is made on the basis of the PKK, Saiga 12 on the basis of AKM. Hence the thickness of the receiver on Vepr 12 is greater than on Saiga 12.
      2) The quality of manufacture of Vepr 12 is higher than Saigi 12 (Saiga is produced in Izhevsk at the IZHMASH concern, Vepr in Vyatskiye Polyany at the MOLOT plant), in particular, this concerns the trunk.
      3) The trunk at Boar 12 has walls thicker than Saiga 12.
      4) The internal diameter of the Boar 12’s bore is 18.5mm, while Saigi’s 12 is 18.3mm. The difference of 0.2mm can create difficulties in installing muzzle attachments from Saigi 12 to Vepr 12.
      5) There is a 2-sided fuse on the Vepr (I don’t know if it is possible to install a fuse from Saiga 12 on Vepr 12.
      6) The bracket for attaching the butt is different.
      7) The gas vent is made according to another system:
      a) On Vepr 12 there is no switch Magnum \ not magnum
      8) At all Boars 12 there is a AZZ (automatic shutter lag)
      9) stock latch
      10) Sights:
      Vepr-12 - sector sight type RPK;
Saiga-12K - RPP or unregulated front sight.

version 30 was first created for saiga 12k, and only after a couple of years they made a boar’s hammer on it (when the plant was handed to Izhmekh and he shared the drawings and tsu), all the differences are explained by the fact that Kalash made on the other and on the RPK hammer they serve as a unification with previously produced devices ...

Personally, I would be least of all worried about whether the armed resistance would remain alive or not! In this case, I would prefer to kill on the spot, so that the court doesn’t load unnecessary work - the one who took the weapon has already signed his own sentence ...

A letter comes to the USSR Armed Forces, they read "Dear leaders, etc., I have been working at the Tula Samovar Plant for 40 years, I will soon retire, but I don't have a samovar and I can't buy it, they are not available anywhere. Help." She replied "Dear grandmother, we cannot send you a whole samovar, but in view of your merits, we allow you to bring out one piece a week, so you can assemble a samovar at home." Three months later, from my grandmother again a letter "Uv. Comrades I did as you said, now I have an anti-aircraft gun at home, but still no samovar ..."

a very interesting trend has been observed recently - shotgans are equipped with box stores. I think this is due to the desire to get not only police but also army weapons. the presence of a box magazine allows you to accelerate the reload time, which is more relevant during the fighting, while for police operations in most cases, the rate of fire is not needed

If you go to the Izhmash website, then KSK are positioned there as a weapon of police special forces for carrying out sweeps and freeing hostages. For this, automation is needed. The army is also interested in smoothbore, there are even underbarrel options for M4, etc.
