Anti-tank missile system on a tracked chassis "Chrysanthemum-S"

31
Khriznatema-S ATGM (Western AT-15 Classification Springer) was created in Kolomna Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau in the 1990-ies under the guidance of General Designer S. P. Invincible. This anti-tank missile system is designed to destroy the enemy’s modern and promising armored vehicles, including MBTs equipped with dynamic protection, as well as enemy fortification and engineering structures, its surface and low-speed air targets and manpower. A distinctive feature of the self-propelled ATGM "Chrysanthemum-S" is its absolute all-weather capability. Targeting is carried out with the help of an automatic combined control system for a radio beam and a semi-automatic laser beam. The complex has the ability to simultaneously fire 2-x targets and high rate of fire. Serial production of ATGM 9K123 “Chrysanthemum-S” is deployed at the FSUE “Saratov Aggregate Works”.

If we talk about stories the creation of this complex, it will be appropriate to recall the large-scale military exercises "West-81", held on the territory of the Belarusian military district, which was attended by a large number of ground forces. Initially, large-scale artillery preparation was carried out, after which they were thrown into enemy positions Tanks. Despite the fact that they were waiting for prepared guns and anti-tank systems, they did not have time to say their word. Under cover of dust and smoke raised by artillery preparation and tracks, the tanks almost unnoticed approached the positions of the "enemy". The exercises were attended personally by the Minister of Defense of the USSR Dmitry Ustinov. Calling Sergei the Invincible, the chief and chief designer of the Kolomna engineering bureau of mechanical engineering, at his command post, he said: “You see, no one can shoot! Think about how you can detect and destroy tanks when virtually nothing is visible. ” The design bureau thought about this problem.

The self-propelled anti-tank complex "Chrysanthemum-S" turned out to be really "all-seeing." He can use the 2 channel targeting missiles at the target: optical-laser, which ensures the defeat of a wide range of targets in visibility conditions, and radar, which is responsible for hitting targets hidden by snow, fog or smokescreen. The use of two channels allows the complex to accompany 2 targets simultaneously and simultaneously launch rockets. In this case, one - in the automatic mode on the principle of "shot and forget." For the Chrysanthemum-C ATGM there is no difference what time of day it is on the street. The system includes the commander 9P157 machine-4 battery car platoon 9P157-3, combat vehicle 9P157-2, and 2 type missiles: a tandem warhead cumulative effect (anti) and high explosive part.

Fighting machine 9P157-2

The self-propelled Chrysanthemum-S complex can successfully hit modern as well as promising main battle tanks, including those with dynamic protection. In addition to armored vehicles, it can destroy hovercraft, low-tonnage surface targets, low-flying subsonic aerial targets, reinforced concrete fortifications, bunkers and armored shelters.

Distinctive properties of ATGM "Chrysanthemum-S":

- simultaneous targeting of 2-x missiles at various targets;
- the possibility of using around the clock in simple and complex weather conditions, as well as in the presence of smoke and dust interference.
- short flight time due to the use of supersonic rockets;
- high noise immunity of the complex from radio and infrared interference;

At the moment, the Chrysanthemum-S "ATGM" is the most powerful of all currently existing ground anti-tank complexes. The large effective range of fire in all weather and combat conditions, high firing speed and security make the complex indispensable for both defensive and offensive operations of the ground forces.

The main feature of "Chrysanthemum-S" is the possibility of destruction of the enemy's armored targets without the need for thermal imaging or optical aiming. “Chrysanthemum-S” has its own radar station, which operates in the range of radio waves - 100-150 GHz (2-3 mm). This radar can detect and track targets while simultaneously guiding the missile while aiming. The process of management and maintenance is carried out automatically, without the help of the installation operator. Due to the presence of an additional laser guidance system for an ATGM, the complex can fire a volley at two different targets, using different aiming channels for this.

ATGM 9М123 designed by the normal aerodynamic configuration. The aerodynamic rudders of the rocket are placed perpendicular to the plane of the axes of the engine nozzles, their drive is located in the tail of the rocket. The rocket is equipped with wings similar to the wings of the “Sturm” complex missiles and located in front of the nozzle block. The missile complex "Chrysanthemum-S" can be equipped with different types of combat units. ATGM 9М123-2 has a powerful over-caliber tandem warhead with a diameter of 152 mm. This ammunition can penetrate armor with a thickness up to 1200 mm, which is behind the dynamic protection. There is also a variant of equipping a high-explosive (thermobaric) warhead rocket, in which case it has the index 9М123Ф-2.
MANPADS "Chrysanthemum-S" in Libya, in 2010, Russia delivered 4 machines 9P157-2 to the country XNUMX

The Chrysanthemum-S complex is located on the base of the BMP-3 chassis. The combat vehicle of the 9P157-2 complex has a crew of 2-s and carries ammunition from 15 9М123-2 or 9М123Ф-2 missiles in transport-launch containers. This machine, like the original BMP-3 has a high maneuverability and high maneuverability, is equipped with means of individual and collective protection against weapons mass destruction. The machine is able to easily overcome water obstacles by swimming at speeds up to 10 km / h, using jet propulsion for this. The speed on the highway is 70 km / h, over rough terrain - 45 km / h, power reserve - 600 km.

Along with the retractable launcher, calculated on the 2 transport-launch container with missiles, closer to the left side of the machine is the radar antenna. The choice of the missiles needed to solve a specific combat mission from the ammunition is made automatically by the operator’s command. All processes that are associated with the transfer of PU from the marching position to the combat position and vice versa, charging and recharging are fully automated and are performed from a special console behind the operator’s workplace. The transition from marching to martial status takes no more than 20 seconds.

It is assumed that the battery of 3 combat vehicles "Chrysanthemum-C" is able to repel the attack of a tank company as part of 14 machines, while destroying at least 60% of the advancing tanks. The missiles with a high-explosive warhead that are part of the complex further expand the possibilities of its use. In addition to its versatility, the complex can be placed on other carriers with a carrying capacity of at least 3 tons without any problems. It is also possible to use this complex in the role of anti-ship weapons on boats.

During the operation of this complex, the need to have in its composition a platoon commander’s car and a battery commander’s car for conducting and planning combat operations, as well as conducting reconnaissance in any weather and any time of day was revealed. In cooperation with other development enterprises, the design bureau of machine-building at its own expense conducted the development and subsequent testing of combat vehicles and control vehicles, increasing the combat capabilities of the complex.
Battery Commander Machine 9P157-4

The battery commander's machine has an index of 9P157-4. It is equipped with a circular viewing sight, a heat and television reconnaissance device, a radar station, a topographic reference and orientation system, communication facilities, jamming, etc. In the role of self-defense weapons, the machine is equipped with a machine gun. The machine is equipped with 5 jobs.

The upgraded combat vehicle 9P157-2 also received instead of an optical thermal control unit. This allows the complex to work in the optical channel not only during the day, but at night. To improve the self-defense of the machine, a course gun was mounted on it. To improve the comfort of the crew, the car received air conditioning. The platoon commander’s machine, designated 9P157-3, is based on a linear machine and differs from it only by the presence of a radio station for communication with the battery commander.

At present, the possibilities for the modernization of the Chrysanthemum-S complex are far from being exhausted. Work is currently underway to automate the processes of target distribution and target designation by the battery commander to the combat vehicles, which will significantly reduce the time from the moment the target is detected to its destruction by the missile of the complex.

      Well, I recently watched it in Discovery, so our BMP-1-2 was rejected due to the low silhouette and was given only 6th place and even took it off, well, since Discovery is an Amer program, we gave everything to Amers and Britam. And the comments, so I laughed

        Well, Discovery is well-known for its objectivity and a rubber meter ... in their opinion, the Russians are still fighting with what was left of the Great Patriotic War, plus five new toys made even with the general secretaries.

        on the other hand, jumping out of our infantry fighting vehicles to tall soldiers in bronics (like me, for example) is still a pleasure.

      In warehouses should remain. In you tube there are funny shots of Iraqi boys who threw (successfully) RCGs on hammers in the city (when passing columns).

      The last thing I remember from my army years is the RKG-3 cumulative hand grenade. Anti-tank, of course. It is thrown not under the caterpillar, as it was in the war, and not on the engine compartment, like a bottle with Molotov cocktails. It is thrown into the side, into the forehead, into the tower, like into a wall or into a fence, or, as life has shown, from above, it can be thrown onto armored vehicles. It is more comfortable. Throwing range 15 - 20 meters. The weight of the grenade is 1070 grams. During the flight, a small stabilizer opens and the grenade flies exactly with the warhead forward. It was back in the seventies. I won't say exactly what there is now, but the militants used them in the Chechen wars, in particular in Grozny. From a window or a room of which grenade launcher is not "shmalnesh" (the jet stream will reflect from the wall and throw it out or burn it), and a grenade from above is easy. And it does not unmask the thrower either with sound or flame. So, I think these grenades will still be found in warehouses.

    as in a joke, one tanker cannot hammer a nail into the tower with his head, since the second tanker is sleeping in the tower, he put his head to the wall of the tower.
    I remember in school there was a lightning, I rolled from the place of lightning to part on the tank, I earned 10 bruises. He lived in a military town, the lightning was carried out seriously, with firing explosive pacts, bookmarks, it was fun.

      I think that the equipment of both vehicles cannot fit into one box of current armored vehicles. And the tactics of application are completely different. If it was cost-effective, then they would have done it a long time ago.

        - I like the idea. It is no secret that radar guidance unmasks the shooter's position, and it is not a problem to destroy the Chrysanthemum with a primitive rocket flying at the source of the radar beam. Therefore, the use of "Chrysanthemum-S" in a separate form is difficult, because Western and Israeli tanks do not attack without air (or at least helicopter) support. The Israelis only once, underestimating the enemy, made such an oversight by releasing tanks without helicopter support - this is in Operation Cast Lead, and immediately paid. Enemy fighters even burned the sophisticated Merkava 4 without straining too much, and without any Chrysanthemums - they managed the RPG-7, and against the Merkava 4 they used up a supply of cornet missiles (the most basic version).
        Therefore, IMHO, Chrysanthemum should act only in tandem with the "Shell". Yes, the radio interference suppression station would not interfere - jamming is very often and quite effectively used against radar guidance. If there is such a trio, the tanks will have nothing to do there.

          I mean, "no information"?
          1. The fact that deliveries to Libya were carried out on cameras was told by KBM representative to Putin at REA-2011:
          “A couple of minutes later, the prime minister stopped near another installation. Its developer reported that "Chrysanthemum-S" was developed as an anti-tank complex. They were also ordered for the Libyan army.
          “They put three pieces,” the developer reported.
          “And where are they now?” the prime minister asked quietly.
          - Gone during the last hostilities in Libya. Their fate is unknown, the developer admitted.
          “Yes, the Libyan application ...” the prime minister repeated. ”
          http://www.kommersant.ru/doc/1770599/print
          2. The fact that in 2010 4 SPU 9P157-2 and 150 ATGMs were delivered to Libya was reported by SIPRI.
          3. The well-known photographs of the Chrysanthem-S SPTRK in Libya have a definite binding - “On October 5, 2011, the photographs show the use of at least one 9P157-2 combat vehicle by the Libyan National Transitional Council during the siege of the city of Sirte held by Gaddafi’s supporters.”
          Supporting information about the presence of anti-tank systems in Libya is quite enough.

      I do not know what to test there: BMP-3 with a paired ATGM complex, capable of firing at 2 targets simultaneously. Rockets are 80% larger and more powerful than the Kornet
      In fact, it is a mobile ATGM with equipment that allows missiles to achieve their goals in any conditions.

    How protected is the complex. It is clear that now no tank will go into battle without minimal intelligence. The advantage of portable systems in their mobility and disguise. How is it in Chrysanthemum. From the point of view of thermal projection and detection of the radar complex
    Well, the year of creation should not be removed from the accounts. "20 years - at least 2 generations have changed in electronic warfare systems, thermal imagers and detection equipment.

      At REA-2011, it was said that the BM 1P157 was modernized. Open, no details of the upgrade were reported. In addition, a new MBA was introduced into the anti-tank systems.
      As for the passive disguise, then cover the BM with the “Cape” set, RTP-90, etc. nothing bothers.
      In principle, a working BM radar can be detected. If it is enabled (which is not necessary). But how many armored vehicles in the world are equipped with such sensors? Offhand, from the serial, I, perhaps, except for "Merkava" I can not name. But the chariot sensors can only detect mm range. Not the fact that they, for example, will react to a centimeter MUB radar.

      It’s definitely not worth it to “take off” the year of creation. However, in Lebanon, in 2006, the Hezbollah fighters did not have modern (in your understanding) anti-tank systems. Even if we accept the Israeli version that the Kornet-E anti-tank systems were used against them, then this complex was also created in 1988. Other - "Baby", "Métis", "Bassoons", "Competitions", much more ancient ... Despite this, Israeli technology, including the most advanced modifications of the Merkava MBT were astonished by the ATGM data. Despite the difference in age.
      By the way, it would be interesting to know what kind of "2 generations of electronic warfare" has changed over the past 20 years. Can you tell in more detail?
