Pre-holiday issues of American space exploration

By a strange coincidence, at a time when the whole world celebrates the anniversary of the first flight into space by Yu.A. Gagarin, in the United States is slowly developing another round of cosmic hysteria. However, this time it is far from successful, as it was 40-50 years ago. The decommissioning of reusable space shuttles was the impetus for increasing public attention to the prospects of American space exploration. And, as it turned out, her future is far from being the most rosy, in any case, just such an opinion is becoming more and more common.

It so happened that in the US space industry, especially in the Space Center. J.F. Kennedy, there are a large number of people who are truly passionate about their work. And those who have no ideological background in their work, are still proud of the achievements of the whole country in space, of the flights to the moon and of the exploration of the solar system. In general, the picture is nice looking and promising. But ... On April 1, American television showed the story on 60 minutes, which can hit the first impression very badly. As it turned out, the very Cosmic coast of Florida, the pride of American industry and technology, is currently beginning to gain momentum in a very unpleasant area. Unemployment is simply growing there.

The reason for these social upheavals was the collapse of a number of programs and cuts in funding for space exploration. Some analysts believe that the fate of several thousand people was so peculiarly and indirectly influenced by the collapse of the Soviet Union. The fact is that at the very beginning of the nineties, the advantage of the United States in the space field was such that proposals began to sound a little "hold back the horses." And now there is no one to compete with, and money can be spent on other spheres. As a result, the steps taken by George Bush Sr. to reduce military spending and increase allocations for space exploration did not receive a decent continuation. On the contrary, at first the Clinton administration attained a reduction in space investments and even threatened to close some areas. Then George W. Bush had more important problems, therefore with him the attitude of the authorities to the space program remained almost unchanged. The last American president - B. Obama - over the past years has managed to implement several initiatives aimed at saving money. And what is the most annoying, the American space suffered from this economy.

It is noteworthy that the reduction in funding occurred precisely when reusable shuttles were decommissioned. They should be replaced by a new vehicle, but the money for its creation, it seems, will have to be sought, what is called, on the bottom of the barrel. Of course, if the next president does not return the old priority to the space program and does not raise funding. But not the fact that a simple increase in the amount of money allocated will have the expected consequences. Thus, one of the leaders of the American space program, M. Olbrecht, sees a threat to the future of his industry in a number of features of the American system. For example, the staff of state institutions is overblown and does not allow to make decisions correctly and distribute funds. In private companies, things are no better - they are accustomed to the state of the state apparatus and have learned how to use it. In the space industry a lot of money is spinning, and this is a good lure for various bad characters. As a result, corruption, theft and unfair competition begins. It can hardly be called good conditions for the development of astronautics.

To get out of the incipient crisis, it is necessary to change and optimize the bureaucratic machine, which, frankly speaking, can only close the programs or open them. As practice shows, the comparison of existing ones, their processing, etc. officials of the American space industry are given with great difficulty. Without changes, the current unpleasant situation will only get worse, to the point where nothing can be corrected. Currently, the former US championship in the space industry is gradually eroding. For example, over the past year 2011, Americans conducted 17 successful launches. Russia, in turn, implemented 28. It is unlikely that in 2012 or 2013, the situation could change dramatically in favor of the United States.

It should be noted that the lag in the space industry can not only lead to a loss in numerical terms. Astronautics, being a fusion of the most advanced technologies, not only uses, but also creates and develops them. Accordingly, with a poorly developed space industry, a single country can lose in all those areas that appear and are used in space programs. It turns out that insufficient attention to space can slow down the development of many other spheres.

But it's not just about economics and technology. There is also a moral side. Former Congressman B. DeLay believes that the wrong approach to space exploration will have a very unpleasant effect on many other things. In particular, the rejection of aspirations in the still little-studied area, even if located a short distance from the home planet, will deprive people of motivation. They may stop striving for something and close themselves on what they already have. And this is contrary to the very nature of man, which, undoubtedly, will cause many other troubles. If the desire for new things and knowledge remains and is strongly encouraged, then after the flights into space, industry, economics, and even consumer services will be pulled up. In the end, many people will have a dream again. Unattainable, while unattainable. Probably, for the sake of this, it is worthwhile to thoroughly shake up the bureaucrats and restore order in the region.

The order will direct the Americans. In fact, their space program and they deal with it. But other space powers should pay attention to the problems of the United States. Pay attention and take into account, in order not to repeat American mistakes.

        unemployment is rising.

They seem to have a problem on a problem.
50 prominent astronauts, scientists and engineers signed a letter stating that GISS extreme position on climate change makes NASA a laughing stock
The tone of the letter is the most direct and sharp.

And how many billions of these talkers from the Goddard Institute fished from the pockets of taxpayers? Here is the text of the letter:
        28 March 2012 city

        NASA Headquarters

        NASA Director

        Charles Bolden

        Washington, DC 20546-0001

        Dear Charlie,

We, the undersigned, urge the representatives of NASA and the Goddard Space Research Institute (GISS) to refrain from unproven statements in the press and on the Internet. We consider the statements of NASA and GISS that carbon dioxide, a product of human activity, has a catastrophic effect on global climate change, without any foundation, especially taking into account thousands of years of empirical data. Hundreds of well-known climate scientists and thousands of other scientists have publicly expressed their distrust of catastrophic forecasts, some of which come from GISS management. Obviously, these forecasts can NOT be considered scientifically sound.

Large-scale propaganda of the position that CO2 is supposedly the main cause of climate change is not worthy of the history of NASA - an organization that has always objectively evaluated all available scientific data before making decisions or making statements.

As former NASA employees, we find support for an extreme position on this issue inappropriate, at least until thorough studies of the possible decisive effects of natural climatic factors are carried out.

We demand that NASA representatives continue to refrain from unproven and unfounded statements on this issue in the press and on the Internet. Under attack was NASA's exemplary reputation, the reputation of current and former scientists and employees of the organization, even the reputation of science itself.

You can obtain additional scientific information regarding a subject of interest to us by contacting Harrison Schmitt, Walter Cunningham, or other specialists whom they recommend to you.

Thank you in advance for considering this request.

In the United States, the Washington Times newspaper published an article about this TV show, which is called "Obama's short-sighted approach to the space problem." Here are excerpts from it

The space shuttle was the world's greatest technological advancement. Similarly, the International Space Station was an incredible result of the combined efforts of many countries - efforts, which can be undertaken only on condition that the United States is ready to courageously and decisively take a leading role.

That is why, after watching the program, at first I was upset, and then I got angry.

As one of the industry’s former employees told reporters: “It could have been otherwise, we shouldn’t have come to this.”

When I left Congress, a plan was already launched to move to a new course. After curtailing the Space Shuttle program, America was supposed to begin a bold project to explore the Moon and - later - Mars. The administration abandoned this plan, throwing in the trash 9 billion dollars that were already invested in it.

I am struck by the absolute misunderstanding of the importance of manned space flights, which the current administration demonstrates.

The program did not mention on the work on creating a large-capacity capsule and rocket capable of reaching deep space, which continues in Huntsville (Alabama), Houston, and on the Cosmic Coast. Perhaps the journalists did not mention this, as the administration is trying to close these projects.

This incredible project was started thanks to the Congress, and I would really like the congressmen not to turn off this course.

The research spirit of humanity is in the blood. Let's hope he survives the Obama administration.

Most families live without any financial savings at all ...

According to large-scale surveys conducted in 2010, 77 percent of Americans live from paycheck to paycheck.

And recent polls have shown that every third American will not be able to pay interest on his debt next month if he suddenly loses his job.

That is why such a huge number of US citizens lost their homes and lives today below the poverty line. They had no “airbag”.

Last year, another 2,6 million Americans were impoverished. This decline in living standards has been the most serious since 1959 (i.e., from the time the US government began to maintain such statistics

“The number of applications for unemployment benefits rose sharply last week, is another sign that the labor market has lost momentum. Initially, the number of applications for unemployment benefits increased by 13, adding to the seasonally changing amount of 000 in the week ending April 380, the Ministry of Labor said on Tuesday. This was the most significant jump in applications for almost the whole year ...

In addition, in the United States, 50 million people do not have health insurance. 60 million people need subsidies for the purchase of food (and for growing vegetables in their garden - a prison: http://aftershock-1.livejournal.com/288680.html), unemployment is officially approx. 9%, not officially about 18%; Obama signed a law on the possibility for the state, if necessary (when it wants) to seize ANY property of citizens and companies (http://www.rufors.ru/content/view/707/49/), 30 drones are watching the Americans, about FEMA camps do not even have to write. A short excerpt from an interview with Ray Bradbury.

    - In 1950, you wrote a book that brought you worldwide fame - a collection of stories "Martian Chronicles." It said: by the beginning of the second millennium there will be settlements on Mars, whole cities of earthmen. Why do you think this never happened?

    - I am often asked about this, and I like to fantasize over answers. Today's answer: because people areID_ _Y . They did a lot of stupid things: they came up with costumes for dogs, the position of an advertising manager and things like an iPhone, having received in return nothing but a sour aftertaste. Mankind has been given the opportunity to surf the cosmos, but it wants to engage in consumption - to drink beer and watch TV shows.

We, the Russian space nation, and the priority in space should belong to us. We must learn from the past and develop our astronautics and space industries in every possible way. The moment is coming when humanity will have to start exploring other planets, because the Earth's resources are not infinite. And only space is a way out of the multitude of conflicts and wars that are waged for the resources of the planet, only the exploration of space and other planets will save humanity. As Tsiolkovsky said: "The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but humanity cannot always be in the cradle." So the future belongs to space.

A pleasant article, but, unfortunately, not deep, and the topic is extremely interesting!

"The fact is that at the very beginning of the nineties, the advantage of the United States in the space field was such that proposals began to sound a little" hold back the horses "" - is not true, like most of the reasons given by the author for the failure of the American space industry.

It is no secret that Wernher von Braun laid the foundation of American space, and even after retiring, he continued to remain a very influential figure in US space circles at the level of decision-making. So there is a very plausible version that the Shuttles are his personal revenge on the Americans for the war, for the capture and for the personal humiliation that he suffered from them. Pushing and supporting them, he understood perfectly well that this was a dead-end branch and, over time, it would lead the Americans to full F, which happened. The shuttle is the most unsuccessful space program in the world in the entire history of astronautics. Of the 5 shuttles, 2 died, i.e. 40%. With the planned number of at least 100 launches for each, the most "productive" took off only 39 times, the rest even less, which made this program an unbearable burden for NASA and led to the modern collapse of the US space industry. This is what it would be worth looking for information about if the author wanted to create an interesting and useful article. IMHO.
