2017 year: adopted
News for the Army
Perhaps the main novelty entering the service of the ground forces may be considered a combat support vehicle tanks BMPT "Terminator". At the same time, it should be noted that this model of military equipment is not completely new. The first version of "Terminator" appeared at the beginning of the last decade, and several years ago its improved modification was introduced. However, until recently, such equipment was not of interest to the Russian armed forces. For a number of reasons, the command did not want to put such equipment into service and purchase serial armored vehicles.
In the summer of this year, it became known that the BMPTs were sent to Syria for verification in the context of a real local conflict. As far as we know, an armored vehicle with a set of rocket and barrel weapons showed itself well on the battlefield and confirmed its potential in the context of modern conflicts of low intensity. Apparently, these events influenced the opinion of Russian military leaders.
In mid-June 2017, there were reports of a possible resumption of the production of BMPT, and this time in the interests of the Russian army. Then it was reported that these machines will be based on the chassis of the T-90 tanks and, possibly, be equipped with new fire control devices. A little later, during the international military-technical forum "Army-2017", this information was confirmed.
According to official statements, several agreements were signed between the Ministry of Defense and the Uralvagonzavod Corporation at the forum. The theme of one of these contracts was the mass production of new “Terminators” for the Russian army. The quantity of the ordered equipment and the timing of its delivery, however, were not specified.
According to unconfirmed reports, the construction of new BMPT starts next year. There is reason to believe that at the same time, with the advent of a contract for mass production, an order was issued to adopt such machines for arming the ground forces.
Also important new products for the ground forces were new tanks, which are modernized versions of existing combat vehicles. This year the army adopted and ordered new T-72B3 type tanks arr. 2016 and T-90M. To date, the armed forces managed to get the first mass-produced vehicles of the first type. The delivery of the second will begin in the foreseeable future.
The new modification of the T-72B3 tank differs from its predecessors by improved protection and armament, as well as a revised powerplant. The own armor of such a tank is complemented by the “Relic” dynamic protection complex. Used engine B-92C2F, supplemented by an automatic transmission. In the complex of monitoring tools introduced a rear view camera, the signal of which is displayed on the monitor in the control compartment. The combat effectiveness of the tank is enhanced by the 2-46-5-01 cannon and improved fire control systems.
Deliveries of T-72B3 tanks in the 2016 modification were launched at the beginning of the current year. In the shortest possible time, the industry transferred to the troops a significant number of updated combat vehicles, rebuilt from the equipment of combatant units. 9 May 2017, the first public demonstration of such equipment was held as part of the parade on Red Square.
At the beginning of autumn, for the first time, the Ministry of Defense publicly showed the T-90М tank, which was the result of Proryv-3 development work. This project provides for the replacement of a standard T-90 engine with a B-92C2F high-power engine. The main engine and generator are complemented by an auxiliary power unit. Own armor of the hull and turret are covered with dynamic protection "Relic" and lattice screens. Along the perimeter of the tower is proposed to mount a mesh screen with reinforcements at the intersections of the filaments. There is information about the possibility of using active protection.
The contract for the serial modernization of existing tanks for the T-90M project was signed at the end of this summer. According to known data, a similar refinement will 400 combat vehicles. This will significantly improve the fleet of armored vehicles and increase the combat capability of the ground forces.
Novelties for aerospace forces
In mid-November, the 344th Army Center aviation two of the latest Mi-28UB attack helicopters arrived. Earlier, representatives of the military department adopted this technique at the Rostvertol manufacturing plant. Soon, several of the following new model combat vehicles were handed over to the aerospace forces. In the foreseeable future, the aviation industry will continue to build the Mi-28UB, with the result that the armed forces will receive some new opportunities.
The Mi-28UB attack helicopter is an updated version of the Mi-28Н serial. As follows from the letters indicated in the name of the new modification, this helicopter is combat training and can be used both for destroying targets and for training pilots. The main innovation of the Mi-XNUMHUB project is to use two sets of controls placed in both cabins. Technical and combat characteristics of the modified machine remain at the level of previous modifications.
The presence of two sets of controls, primarily due to the need to train pilots. In this case, one of the cabins is intended for the trained pilot, while the second is the instructor. At the same time, despite such opportunities, the helicopter retains the ability to solve combat missions, and receives some new capabilities. Mi-XNUMHUB differs from all previous modifications of the family of increased combat survivability. In the event of the defeat of the pilot commander, the navigator-operator can take over the control of the machine.
Another new product in the field of combat aviation should be a multi-purpose fighter MiG-35. At the beginning of 2017, the flight tests of this car started, which took several months. The plane received high marks from specialists and military foreign countries. In particular, it became aware of interest, which in the future could result in a number of export contracts. Nevertheless, the prospects for the MiG-35 in the context of the rearmament of the Russian Aerospace Forces are still not completely clear.
Throughout the 2017 year, officials have repeatedly talked about the great prospects of the MiG-35 fighter and its early adoption. However, the year is coming to an end, and the contract for the mass production of equipment and the order for its adoption into service have not yet appeared. It is possible that such documents will be signed, according to the old tradition, “under the Christmas tree”, but their appearance may shift next year.
New to the Navy fleet
As part of the current state armaments program, the Russian Navy regularly receives new warships, boats and submarines, as well as support vessels. The outgoing 2017 year was no exception. The fleet received 10 warships and boats, as well as 13 ships. In the future, the supply of new ships will continue, so that the Navy will be able to upgrade and increase its combat capability.
It should be noted that most of the new ships and vessels transferred to the navy this year are not new in the full sense. The shipbuilding industry continued to fulfill existing orders received in the recent past. For example, on December 25, the fleet was handed over to the frigate of the 11356 project “Admiral Makarov”, which is the third ship of its type. The share of leading ships opening new series this year was not too large. However, they were also present in the list of new supplies.
On July 20, a solemn ceremony was held, during which the leading corvette of the 20380 project - “Perfect” was accepted into the fleet's combat personnel. This ship, capable of patrolling and fighting surface or underwater targets, was built from 2006 onwards. Due to certain problems, the construction was delayed, and the launching took place only in the late spring of the 2015 of the year. At the start of the 2017, the “Perfect” went into sea trials, which took several months. In the middle of summer, the ship entered the Pacific Fleet.
The 105-meter ship with a displacement of 2220 T is equipped with four diesel engines and two propellers, with which it can reach speeds up to 27 knots. "Perfect" carries two launchers with four anti-ship missiles X-35 "Uranus" on each. For the destruction of underwater targets, the corvette carries the package-NK torpedoes. The ship is also equipped with artillery and anti-aircraft guns, anti-aircraft missiles and other systems. There is the possibility of carrying a helicopter.
In early October, the newest frigate "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" (project 22350) went to the Northern Fleet to complete the final stage of state tests. After all the planned inspections, which should have taken several months, the ship will have to officially enter the combat strength of the navy. For a number of reasons, the construction of Admiral Gorshkov, which started back in 2006, took a lot of time and was noticeably delayed. However, after all problems have been solved, the ship is almost ready for service.
It was expected that the delivery of the ship will take place in the last days of December, but just yesterday it became known that it would be handed over to the fleet only next year. Such a postponement of dates is connected with the need to work out some issues and the customer’s desire to immediately accept the ship into the Navy's combat strength, bypassing the trial operation phase.
In the near future, tests of the second ship of the 22350 project will begin. In total, it is planned to build eight such frigates. Ships with a full displacement of 5400 t and a length of 135 m are proposed to be equipped with a combined power plant with diesel and gas turbine engines. With their help, he will be able to reach speeds up to 30 nodes. The basis of the 22350 frigate armament complex is universal launchers capable of carrying 16 Onyx and Caliber missiles. It also uses rocket and artillery anti-aircraft weapons, torpedoes, etc.
Just the other day, a ceremony of acceptance of another warship may take place, which also had to wait for many years. The large landing ship of the 11711 project “Ivan Gren” was laid back in the 2004 year, and construction was completed only in the 2015. To date, the ship was brought to the stage of state tests. According to the latest reports, this phase of inspections will be completed as soon as possible. The acceptance certificate is scheduled to be signed in the last days of December.
The Ivan Gren has a full displacement of 5000 tons and a length of 120 meters. A ship with a diesel power unit is capable of accelerating to 18 units. It is equipped with artillery guns and multiple rocket launchers, and is also capable of carrying helicopters. In the holds of the ship can be transported battalion of marines with a particular technique. The hull of the ship is equipped with a nasal ramp for disembarking floating equipment at a distance from the coast or the withdrawal of non-floating machines on a suitable coast.
On the eve of 2018
This year, the industry completed the development of a number of projects for advanced weapons and military equipment, and also received several orders for the mass production of such samples. In addition, some large volume contracts were completed. All this, among other things, led to the entry into service of new types of equipment, as well as to the beginning of the service of modern ships.
A number of models adopted for service this year have already entered mass production. Others, in turn, will begin to be produced only in the near future, and will go to the troops no earlier than the middle or end of 2018. In the case of shipbuilding in the outgoing year, the results of the work of the last few years were obtained, and the ships that are to begin service in the 2018 year are already at one stage or another. In other areas, the situation is simpler - the finished equipment arrives to the customer much faster.
The process of updating the material part of the armed forces continues. Produced production samples of different classes and types, as well as developing and adopting new ones. It should be expected that simultaneously with full-scale mass production of equipment and weapons, entered service in 2017 year, in the next 2018-m completely new models will be accepted for supply. This process, which has a beneficial effect on the state and capabilities of the army, will continue in the future without interruption.
