Italian revolver Chiappa Rhino 200DS

Chiappa Rhino 200DS from Armi Chiappa (Italy) is a compact six-shot revolver for concealed carry. Highly effective .357 Magnum cartridges are used for shooting. The frame of the revolver is made of light alloy. Chiappa Rhino 200DS is built according to an unusual pattern for a revolver - the breech block is located opposite the lower chamber of the drum. This design weapons makes it possible to minimize the flip during a shot. The rhinoceros drum (Rhino), with a capacity of six rounds, with the aim of reducing the weight of the revolver, compactness and convenience while wearing hidden is made of hexagonal and has rounded edges.

For loading and extracting spent cartridges, the drum leans to the left. The drum is fixed by the lever located next to the false trigger on the left side of the frame. Firing mechanism hammer type, double action. The protruding false trigger is the cocking lever of the trigger located behind the lower chamber of the drum in the lower part of the frame. The .200 Special cartridge can also be used to fire the Rhino 38DS. There is also a modification of the Chiappa Rhino 200DS for pistol cartridges 9x21 IMI and .40 S&W.

Aim devices consist of a pillar and interchangeable front sight. The rear sight is a longitudinal groove located at the top of the frame. For the manufacture of the frame revolver used light alloy. Barrel, drum and some parts are made of steel. The Hard Chrome version of the 200DS revolver is chrome plated. For the manufacture of a monolithic handle used rubberized synthetic material. The handle has a wood surface texture. Not the most successful ergonomics of the Chiappa Rhino 200DS revolver does not affect the accuracy of shooting.

Quickly shooting Rhino 200DS compared to revolvers with a “classic” barrel location - opposite the upper drum chamber - is much easier. This is due to less recoil and tossing the trunk. When firing with a pre-cocked trigger, the accuracy is about two inches (51 millimeter), when firing by samovzodom this figure doubles and is about 102 millimeters. In the self-dial mode, the descent force is approximately 7 kilogram.

A feature of the Chiappa Rhino 200DS revolver is the fact that during high-speed shooting the bullets fall somewhat below the aiming point. The main reason for this phenomenon is the direction of the descent effort - just up and back. While pressing the trigger, the barrel deflects down. In addition, the role played by the instinctive force of the shooter aimed at the suppression of recoil, which is acquired by training with self-loading pistols and revolvers of the classical scheme.

Chiappa Rhino 200DS compact revolver for self-defense has high reliability of work, sufficient fire power and accuracy of shooting, does not have strongly protruding parts and sharp edges, has a weak impact, and when fired it is almost completely absent. The cost of the Chiappa Rhino 200DS revolver in the United States is 749 US dollars.

    Good machine.
And our 7N29 / SP-10, in theory, should fit. (if this "Rhino" pulls such pressure of course ...)

The design is similar to our AEK - 906 fifteen years ago, also by the way Rhino.

He shot from Nagan, TT, PM, Margolin. I would love to shoot from such a machine. And also, out of curiosity, to compare with our PM, especially since when using a 9 * 21 cartridge (which is more powerful than our 9 * 18), the manufacturer claims that there is almost no barrel toss. Very interesting.

As for the tossing, such a good result is achieved due to the location of the barrel opposite the lower chamber of the drum, so the axis of the barrel is aligned when aiming with the axis of the hand. There would be a usual pattern (barrel opposite the upper chamber), the result would be different, especially with such powerful enough cartridges and weight in 700 g.

This is clear. I just have not seen revolvers with such a barrel arrangement before. Very interesting. Moreover, many seemed to imagine such a scheme (mentally), but the Italians embodied it in a practical production version. Although, perhaps, there are real samples with a similar scheme for the lower location of the barrel, but I have not heard about them.

I read above in the comments about our AEK-906 (rhino), I found it.
          TTX
          Cartridges - 9 * 18 (PM) or 9 * 19 (Parabellum)
          Length - 210 mm
          Barrel length - 145 mm
Width in the drum - 37 mm
          Empty weight - 800 g
          Capacity - 6 rounds

According to the reviews of Russian and foreign experts, the AEK-906 Rhino revolver (developed for the Ministry of Internal Affairs) surpasses its foreign counterparts by the accuracy of combat and the ability to penetrate personal protective equipment, thanks to its 9 mm caliber.

Unfortunately, the Rhino did not find wide application, despite the promising design. Abroad, according to a similar scheme, an automatic revolver “Mateba” was made. Due to the lower location of the barrel, it has increased accuracy.

However, it is even visually evident that the Italians managed to lower the axis of the barrel bore relative to the pistol grip lower than that of our rhino.

The design is very interesting, but I personally do not like the look at all, so I would not take such a toy for purely aesthetic reasons ...

In this curious design, I somehow did not understand the purpose of the "trigger". What is this garbage in the picture for? To grip the material of the pocket in the trousers?
