Such work, according to Interfax, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense, is already being conducted by the military department as part of the general "humanization of the army" announced by Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov .
"In particular, the option of staffing conscript soldiers on a territorial basis is being considered only in training centers and military training units, as well as in support units," he noted. According to him, recruits who, for family (or other reasons), cannot be sent to remote regions of the country will also be able to serve close to home.
"Contractors from among the sergeants and privates, as well as the officers will continue to be sent to the service on an extraterritorial basis," - said the agency interlocutor. Earlier, State Secretary - Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov said that the Ministry of Defense is working on the transition to the territorial principle of service for certain categories of draftees.
Earlier it was reported that according to the plans of the Minister of Defense, an 5-day work week, an afternoon rest should appear in the Russian army, and civilian organizations would prepare the food, clean the territory and premises instead of the soldiers.
